I am soooooooo wishing
for a Utah/Minnesota Rose Bowl. And for them both to be 8-4.
Best. Thing. Ever.

This guy went to a Rose Bowl once. I saw it with my own eyes.

I was a probation era Gator...
however I did get to watch Emmitt…and law school kept me around long enough to witness the return of Spurrier.
And guess what…we had a kick ass time at games…even though we weren’t on television and we weren’t going to bowl games!

7-4 (Peach Bowl Sux!!!!)
11-0-1 MNC!!!!!!!
8-5

Heavy sigh...
My undergrad was Fall ’02 - Spring ’06. Three Outback Bowls and a Peach Bowl Horrorfest that can never be unseen. Which, to be honest, was almost completely made up for by the 05-06 basketball team. They were that fun.
But when I tell people I stayed at UF for law school so that I could be there during relevant football, they think I’m joking.

I grew up in a Seminole household
I went to UF partly because it was a better academic choice, but mostly because Urban Meyer was coming.
Now everything’s come full circle and I’m going to FSU law (still a Gator though).

its good to take university-paid vaccations to tropical locations in the dead of winter isn't it?
My college (and band) career started in the twilight of the John Blake era in 1998. However, I was lucky enough to attend the original 4 bowls in consecutive years (Orange, Cotton, Rose, Sugar) from 00 thru 03.
All on the university’s dime.

Nooooooo! Don't do it, Utah!
I would LOVE to see the MWC get an AQ… doubly so if it gets stripped from the Big East in the process.
by The Commenter Formerly Known as Not You on Jun 16, 2025 4:49 PM EDT reply actions
As much as I would love to see the MWC in the BCS
Utah laying waste to the Pac-10 over the next few years would be even more delicious.
I’m not only one who’s convinced that Utah is going to pull a Virginia Tech on the Pac-10, am I?
by Gator Cub on Jun 16, 2025 4:55 PM EDT reply actions
Especially with USC being weakened
It’s a definite possibility. And it would be awesome.

From a Pac-10 fan:
Fine with adding another competitive football school. They’ve held their own in OOC play against us the past few years.
I don’t see how anybody views this whole thing as a loss for the Pac-10. CU is historically strong, down for the moment; UU has been strong for most of the decade. Given Texas’ now painfully public idea of fair financial play, why the hell would we have wanted them to begin with?
by HoodRiverDuck on Jun 16, 2025 6:13 PM EDT up reply actions
It's definitely clear
That y’all dodged a bullet on that one. I don’t know what they’ll do when the Big 12-2 implodes again, because nobody’s going to want them.
by commodore_dude on Jun 16, 2025 9:29 PM EDT up reply actions
Don't get excited.
As long as there are 24-plus million Texans to sell a cable network to, UT and A&M will remain attractive.
They’ll still sell themselves to whatever conference will pay the price. The implied price for now just went up through some fancy hand-waving by Dan Beebe, but if/when the Big X implodes the price will go right back to being set by the highest bidder of Messrs. Delany, Scott and Slive. Same story, different year.
That 17-year-old Hokie sitting in the Greensboro Coliseum rafters in 1997 didn't see any of this coming.

oops
My guess is Utes and Buffs go in “North” division with Oregons and Washingtons.
Arizonas and 4 Cal teams in the “South”.
by gtne91 on Jun 17, 2025 9:55 AM EDT up reply actions
If they stick with 9 conference games
they can rotate which “pair” in the other division they dont play. For example:
Year 1: Washs dont play Ariz, Ores dont play SoCal, Mtns dont play NoCal
Year 2: Washs dont play SoCal, Ores dont play NoCal, Mtns dont play Ariz
Year 3: Washs dont play NoCal, Ores dont play Ariz, Mtns dont play SoCal
In 3 years, play everyone in other division twice, once home, once road.
Or they could go crazy ACC style and put one team from each pair in each division and make the paired game a permanent cross division rival. But this
is stupidity that only the tobacco road mafia would think up.
by gtne91 on Jun 17, 2025 10:01 AM EDT up reply actions
I came up with East and West Divisions.
Pac 12 West: Oregon, Oregon St., Wash., Wash. St., Cal, Stanford
Pac 12 East: USC, UCLA, Arizona, Az. St., Utah, Colorado
I'm afraid I have no choice but to sell you all for scientific experiments.

Im assuming the California teams
dont want to be split. But that would work too if they were okay with it. I think Oregon/Washington teams would like that better as it gives more California games fore everyone.
by gtne91 on Jun 17, 2025 12:10 PM EDT up reply actions
From the Daily Camera (Boulder, CO paper)
It appears if the Pac-10 does stop expansion at 12 teams, it will split the league into north and south divisions. Pac-10 sources indicated the most likely split in a 12-team league is Colorado and Utah joining Arizona, Arizona State, USC and UCLA in the south with the other six schools in the north.
This way nobody loses the recruiting exposure of a yearly California trip.
by HoodRiverDuck on Jun 17, 2025 1:01 PM EDT up reply actions
Any word on 3 or 4 cross-divisional games?
Both have advantage. 4, see my post above. 3, even number of home and road games each year.
by gtne91 on Jun 17, 2025 1:51 PM EDT up reply actions
Also heard this was one of Colorado’s stipulations. So long as we don’t employ the ‘zipper’ divisional split, I don’t mind how it happens either way.
The rumor is they want to go back to 8 conference games, so I’m guessing 3 cross-division. So much for the moral superiority of the round-robin.

MWC blew it
by not offering KU Kstate Mizzu and possibly Baylor & ISU
I can’t imagine the Big12 Srapple teams would agree to Beebe’s “Give all your money to Texas and Oklahoma” contract if they had a would-be BCS conference to fall back on.
by RexKramer on Jun 16, 2025 6:53 PM EDT up reply actions
Possibly the Big East blew it
But the MWC had no chance of offering even remotely BCS conference-level money.
by drothgery on Jun 16, 2025 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions
Not so fast
Well except for the fact the "give all your money to Texas and Oklahoma" means almost 10 million dollars a year more for the “scrapple” teams. The MWC could not even come close to paying Iowa State 14 million a year, even if they got a Texas style split.

Boise may still get their lunch and supper too.
Boise and Utah have non-conference games scheduled 2011, 12, 13. Utah still has room for the games.
If Utah is in the Rose Bowl, an undefeated Boise would be in the national title game.
