SLOW NEWS DAY: TAKE THIS TIME TO PURGE.
In lieu of refunding everyone’s daily subscription fees for what’s turning out to be the first letdown day following the OMG GREATEST FOOBAW WEEKEND EVAR 2K8, we’re taking a step back. There’s absolutely nothing interesting happening today, so we’re focusing inward and using this time to improve ourselves as fans by confessing our greatest cardinal football sins. We surveyed ourselves, fellow bloggers just as strapped for content as we are this afternoon, and a few intrepid commenters. The following is our preliminary list of trespasses against our fellow man, our school loyalty, and in several cases against humanity itself.
Forgive me father, for I enjoy the sounds of “Rocky Top”.
ORSON, Florida: “I like Georgia’s colors.”
HOLLY, Tennessee: “I think the recitation of Neyland’s Maxims is one of the dumber traditions in college football and would like nothing better than to see it scrapped.”
PB, Texas: “I don’t hate Kirk Herbstreit like I should. It’s pitiful. He has some weird charisma that overwhelms my rational mind. Maddening.”
SIGNAL TO NOISE, USC: “I’ve started to hate Mark Sanchez. I was uneasy with it; there was something I couldn’t place. I was kind of “well, he’s the QB of the team I root for,” but when the announcers last week compared him to Vince from Entourage, my hate made sense.”
ROCKABYE REGGIE NELSON, Florida: “I prefer games on TV to games in person.”
WORSTFAN, Ohio State: “I want Ohio State to lose again, so I can stop trying to rationalize how they still deserve to be in consideration to be “in it”. I say this as a holder of two Ohio State degrees and former 5 year resident of the 43210.”
BURRITOBROSSHITS, Florida: “Feigning love for the Buckeyes to get laid. Actually worked but I felt really dirty and guilty afterwards. I didn’t have the heart to tell her, though, so I just bounced.”
MONDAY MORNING PUNTER, Ohio State: “Daryll Clark is the man! He strikes me as the kind of guy that could take a girl out to a nice dinner the one minute and then toss her down a flight of stairs the next.”
LT. WINSLOW, Miami: “Fuck it. I don’t regret it. I shared a brief, romantic moment with my coke-whore ex girlfriend’s best friend inside the privacy of a stall in the women’s bathroom in the west endzone of the Orange Bowl at the ‘06 Miami-FSU game. There were little teardrop shaped titties and a baggie of white powder and I’d do it again if I had the chance.”
We feel better already. Please, do join the purge party below with your worst transgressions.

…..at the 2001 SEC Title Game between my beloved LSU and Tennessee I made my way to the mens room in the 2nd quarter and vomited all over my hands, LSu long sleeve t, and the Vol fan in front of me. I never apologized and ran away.
…and when I got back to my seat I told my friends that a Vol fan had puked on ME, thus forcing me to remove my outer layer of clothing.
god it felt good to tell that. Have told NO ONE until now.
So…skinny rat tail having Tenn fan-15 year old with tears in your eyes and my puke on your back…i’m sorry

I second the sentiments of PB, Rockabye Reggie, and the lad giving confession in the photo.
Additionally, I think the quirkiness of LSU (white jerseys at home, numbers painted every five yards instead of ten on the field, double legged goal posts, BACs beyond normal human limits) is pretty damn cool.

Not because it’s too hot or anything, but the thought of curling up on the couch with the dog sounds like a nice change of pace. I mean, the game doesn’t start until 7 pm. Why do I ahve to be there at 9 am?

Everything. OK! I’ll talk! In third grade, I cheated on my history exam. In fourth grade, I stole my uncle Max’s toupee and I glued it on my face when I was Moses in my Hebrew School play. In fifth grade, I knocked my sister Edie down the stairs and I blamed it on the dog… When my mom sent me to the summer camp for fat kids and then they served lunch I got nuts and I pigged out and they kicked me out… But the worst thing I ever done - I mixed a pot of fake puke at home and then I went to this movie theater, hid the puke in my jacket, climbed up to the balcony and then, t-t-then, I made a noise like this: hua-hua-hua-huaaaaaaa - and then I dumped it over the side, all over the people in the audience. And then, this was horrible, all the people started getting sick and throwing up all over each other. I never felt so bad in my entire life.

I think Southern Cal routinely plays a bad ass non conference schedule (including traveling TO SEC schools) that would eliminate most of the country from MNC contention. But LSU would still kick their ass anytime anywhere.

The first pep rally I attended at freshman orientation, I looked at all the blond people making the fight-on gesture, at night, with the marching band, and thought, fucking hell, it’s Nuremberg without the torches.
I’ve never seen SC play at the Rose Bowl, and I really don’t care if I do.
I can’t get Notre Dame’s fight song out of my head for a week after the game.
Deep down, I know I should have gone to Cal.
I find it strangely relaxing to listen to Bob Davie’s commentary.

1. Pete Carroll is a badass. And ‘WIn forever’ tops anything I could have thought of.
2. I’m not a huge fan of His Coachness Rick Neuheisel (I grew up in Colorado, and his departure left a bad taste in the collective mouth.) I am on record before the event as saying firing Dorrell and hiring Slick Rick would be a nightmare (yes, I was THAT drunk). The fact that I might be warming up to him makes me cry inside.
3. I look forward to hearing the Trojan marching band. And when I hear Tusk I want to maul people. (Yes, like a bear. The Humanitarian is right about bears.)

I actually think Auburn is somewhat of a nice little town, except on gamedays.
I got to Neyland early on gameday so I could catch the UT players running through the T. I also enjoyed the Vol Navy. And, much to my shame, I called my fiancee, also a Bama alum, from our tailgate (we were with UT fans) to drunkenly inform her that Smokey had just strolled past. I thought it was cool… So did she…

USC* - 2 things, both of which make me sad:
1) I find Tiger Rag to be a very catchy song, and normally can’t get it out of my head for weeks after playing them. Ditto, Rocky Top.
2) When I was a senior in h.s., I decided I was going to UGA. I applied, got in, got housing, everything. Pulled for them my senior year in sports against USC. I have h.s. friends who will never forgive me, and college friends I will never tell.

Crabapple Buck, The Ohio State University - I have many confessions.
I find some of the traditions of other schools to be really cool, such as the splitting of the T for the team entrance at Tennessee. The LSU tailgates have the best food. Jump around at Wisconsin.
I also find the zaniness of the SEC to be somewhat normal and the relative calm of the north to be a bit disturbing.
I accepted pity sex with Bama Band girls after the 1979 Sugar Bowl (we lost 35-6) and dated an attorney from ND before I was married. I also pull for Michigan until we play them so their pain will be worse when they lose. Although this year and last have found me glad to see Appy State and Toledo win.
I hope a benevolent God will forgive me even though it is Tuesday.

I find, this season, that I might enjoy small college ball more than the big time product. Most of this has to do with crowd size.

3. The way Nick Saban became coach at Alabama left something to be desired. But I would not want anyone else coaching the team.

Confessions of an USC alum, Los Angeles:
I grew up a bRuin fan, and would still cheer for them if it didn’t mean automatic harassment from my bruin friends.
When I first went to USC, it hurt to put on that t-shirt and instantly become a smug rich kid.
I hate most of the fans at the coliseum, be they rich snobs or raider fans looking for a replacement for the long ago departed nfl team.
I think reggie took the money, and I hope he blows out both knees as punishment from god. However, I want to keep his heisman so we have just as many as ND and tOSU.
I like Rick Neuheisel. In fact, I think the combination of he and Norm Chow will end up bringning balance to the force… er, pac 10. Plus, rick is smart (USC law alumni and was admitted to princeton).
I miss norm chow. Pete has not and will not win the MNC without him.

Not only to I like Rocky Top, Warchant, Hold That Tiger, Hey Alabama and Leroy Brown (UGA), but I also think our fight song blows. It’s corny, 1970s rah-rah crap. There, I said it.
I think our tailgating situation is terrible unless you have an extra 13 grand to pay for Bullgator parking. But even then, there is no shade and even less grass.
Georgia girls are hotter, classier and know more about football.
In fact, Florida’s fanbase, for the most part knows very little about football pre-1990. The students know very little pre-2001.
I once wore a UGA hat to a UGA football game on Thanksgiving weekend. I cheered for them to beat Ga. Tech. In my defense, I was drunk enough to explain that the G on the hat stood for Gators, and I didn’t miss the FSU game … it was our bye week.

-It’s not a man-crush exactly, but despite his allegiance to Tennessee I can’t stop picturing Eric Berry in Red and Black. I wonder if he does the same thing, and it makes me sad. Plus he never calls home anymore.

I received my father’s permission (no kidding). It took four years, up until last year’s blackout game, for me to cheer against Auburn. And despite the fact that I have come to love UGA and have lived here in Athens for six years now, I know I will never love college football as much as I did when life was simpler and I was just an Auburn guy.

-I love the music for “Up with the White & Gold”, but I think the lyrics are incredibly cheesy (especially compared to “Ramblin Wreck”)…I just think it’s lame to mention your rival in your fight song.

Gen. Stoopnagle, Georgia:
As an undergrad at a small third-tier public university in Texas, I cheered for Auburn. But for good reason: they beat UF in the Swamp.
I think too many UGA fans are rednecks and that many others have an overblown estimate of UGA’s place in CFB history.
I, too, would sometimes rather sit at home and watch a full slate of games with the wife and hounds than spend all day ‘gatin’ and then ‘tween the hedges.
I also have a massive man-crush on Pete Carroll (but I don’t really think this is a sin - perhaps because I’m Episcopalian?)
And… I kind of like Jessie Palmer as a color guy on ESPN.

Arizona State (still)
We have the worst fanbase of any program that is/aspiring to be a national level program. Fickle, whiny, and generally uninterested. I won’t even get into the administration’s choking out of tailgating, which certainly doesn’t help the issue at hand.
The kids in Tucson have a nicer campus and gameday atmosphere than we do in Tempe.
I really wanted to go to U of A, but ASU offered me a scholarship and my family basically forced me to either go there or somewhere in-state (VA). There was actually a time in my life when I had to lobby to the parents as to why UA and Tucson were better than ASU and Tempe, and I meant every word of it. Luckily I caved. Fucking sell-out.
This is terribly therapeutic. Thanks, Holly and Orson.

-I love the football team, hate the university itself with a passion. Particularly Genshaft.
-Our students are retards in some many different ways from not knowing how to taligate to being living, breathing douche bags.
-Matt Grothe looks like a fetus.
-Those gliter guys you found pictures of? I’ve met them, and if I met them again in a stairwell, I would gladly push them down, then light their broken bodies on fire.
-I have anger management issues, which means I understand Jim Levitt in ways I didn’t think were really possible.
-There’s a reason the school has talented players and that reason is low entry requirements. It’s why I want to murder all lower-classmen I ever had to deal with.
-So, yeah, point one sums it up, I like the team, hate the school.
-And I secretly envy the power-running game of UConn. It’s like a the scene in Saving Private Ryan where the guy gets stabbed by the german as slowly stabs him. It’s gut-wrenchingly amazing.

A couple more things before I go grudgingly to bed, fully expecting a burning couch through my window in minutes:
Penn State’s “WE ARE” chant is something “O-H-I-O” could never ever hope to be.
I want to stab everyone doing the “O-H” chant (trying to egg on the “I-O” response) multiple times with a Morgul-blade. Same for the pitiable souls who justify it with a response.
I have no problem admitting we have the most classless, over-the-top fanbase in the country and that the “Best Fans in the Land” initiative started a few years back has failed miserably.
I don’t hate the SEC or anyone in it. Wait no, check that, I hate the OBC, and I know he loves the fact that I (and most people) do.
Wisconsin’s game atmosphere is second to none when they’re in a competitive game.

Our fight song is one of the least-catchy fight songs I’ve heard (though at least it’s not as annoying as OU or USC’s, mostly because the band doesn’t play it at every goddamn opportunity). Minnesota, Wisconsin, Ohio State, and *shudder* Notre Dame definitely have better ones. (Michigan’s is better - although it still evokes an immediate “mute button” reaction if I’m watching on TV - if you only consider the short version everyone knows; the long version has a two-minute intro that sounds vaguely like circus music and therefore disqualifies it.)
NFL-related: I’m a Vikings fan who doesn’t absolutely hate Brett Favre. (Ironically, the whole soap opera this summer made it come close, and he’s no longer playing for a rival.)

jrbirdman, you are welcome at any of my tailgates. I enjoy those who take their passion to extremes (I once referred to a cop as a Joseph Goebbels nihilist ) which makes no sense outside of some anti-teutonic berating. Beat that rap in municipal court with only a minor fine after the judge snarked.
Orson, I enjoy your varied musical tastes and have been delightfully exposed to new genre. However, I have become addicted to this motown remake recently. It’s not hip, cutting edge or cool, just old school, for which I apologize. I feel so dirty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gA0GcXV2njY

My version of the Big Ten Deathbed Confessionals in case Hippie New Testament God has mercy on me and calls me home to end the suffering:
- I’m jealous of how the crowd gets into the Script Ohio and “Hang On Sloopy”. I think the tuba dotting the I is a kickass tradition. And, I would be proud to say Jesse Owens was an alumnus of my school.
- I’m also jealous our band doesn’t have anything resembling the Fifth Quarter. (Or the tiddy-grabbing hazing goodness afterwards for that matter.)
- School I’m jealous of because their campus is in Chicago: Northwestern.
- Teams I root for when they’re not playing Michigan: PSU, Iowa, Indiana, Undue Perversity.
- Part of me feels happy for Minnesota when they win the Little Brown Jug.
- J Leman, or even Dick Butkus, would be an improvement over our linebackers this year.
- Bonus: Team I find myself rooting for more often than not which should make me feel dirty: Southern Cal.

-despite my own constant reassurances, I realize we will never, ever win the MNC.
-I am starting to realize that the Wrecking Crew glory days and Cotton Bowls may have likely been due to the fact that Texas, OU and LSU were in down periods.
-I wished for the Slocum era to end, and fully did not realize exactly how good we had it.
-I am constantly embarrassed by the fact that we have done so little with our support, facilities, fanbase and program such that we should be where aforementioned Texas, OU and LSU are.
-I find Mike Leach amazing, and enjoy every sound bite.
-I am extremely jealous of Texas’ budget, support from “big name” alums, and, most embarrassingly, their number of t-shirt fans.

The orange and blue color combination, while striking on paper, only looks good on a human being as a football uniform. Nearly every other school’s fanwear (hats, shirts, etc.) are more appealing to me than UF’s.
NC State’s WOLF! - PACK! is much cooler and better executed across the stadium than OOOORRRAAANNNGGGGEEE - BLLLLLUUUUUUEEEE.

I admit that I have not loved Coach Beamer with my whole heart. I think he is a little conservative in his game planning and playcalling. I think his development of the offense has been “not very good”. I think he let Marcus Vick run a little wild when he was on the team (He may have enabled Marcus just a little bit). When people ask me what is on Beamer’s neck, I don’t reprimand them for making fun of a guy who was burned on 110% of his body and had 900 surgeries to correct. I, too, love GT’s fight song. In fact, it’s the best fight song in all of college football. Not only does it get the fans fired up and singing and yelling, it’s a drinking song for which one can make up verses and sing in the local tavern as a saucy wench passes fresh pints around at the local tavern.
Loyalty to parents and the fact that I feel more comfortable wearing red and/or black than light blue played too large a part in turning down the Moorehead.

2. I also think Uga is of questionable genetic makeup.
3. I think Tebow deserved the Hesiman…and I think he is an amazing person.
4. I thought that Urban Meyer and the spread would never ever ever ever work in the SEC…and I was really really wrong.
5. I think GT is a good school.
6. UGA’s cheerleaders are low on “talent”
7. Love the power “T” at Vols games
8. I respect South Carolina’s fan base
9. I think everything the OBC says is hilarious
10. I really hope everyone else in the SEC loses every game and I do understand the consequences of such a scenario.
11. I don’t drink before or during games and I’m completely cool with that.
12. Wish I lived in New Zealand/Australia so I wouldn’t get so caught up in college football.
13. I completely HATEEEEEEEE when UGA fans trash talk at games. Karma is a bitch.
14. I want to beat everyone senseless who does the “keys” thing.
15. Even if we lose to Florida the next 10 years (which based on recent history doesn’t seem too far off), I will still become slightly aroused by the thought of “The Celebration” (and I will buy the landscape print…)
16. I think Auburn is a cool place.
17. I think Paul Johnson will do really good things for GT and I’m terrified of the triple option
18. I get embarrassed with most UGA fans

Sullivan013: Dye-hard Auburn fan
I always liked Bear Bryant. I remember rooting for Auburn as a child, but never missing a Bear Bryant show (though I enjoyed the 72 show more than anything in my life - hearing Bear having to admit losing that game was pure ectasy).
I miss the Wreck Tech parade more than any of the ‘newer’ traditions at Auburn, to include the Tiger Walk and the Eagle Flyover.
I thought the ‘Black out’ at the AU-GA game last year was one of the most awe-inspiring, intimidating stunts of the modern era.
Georgia had the prettiest girls in the SEC in the early 80s (excepting, of course, my wife that I met at Auburn).
I realized I find greater enjoyment out of Auburn games when we’re the underdog than when we completely dominate. Others throw thier hands up about the unneccesarily close nail-biter games, but I actually find winning those to be a better tonic than winning by three touchdowns. Even the perfect season and SEC championship in 2004 doesn’t approach the euphoric bliss of the last minute field goals over Florida in ‘01 and ‘07, and the Brad Lester’s last first down in the 2007 Iron Bowl.
I *like* ‘three yards and a cloud of dust” power I football. I would rather see a halfback running for six off-tackle than a 30-yard completion.
F*ck the Spread.

I’ve got family members all over the SEC, and here are my secret confessions based on trips all over the South.
-I’m jealous that we don’t have a Tiger Navy that comes up on the Mississippi River. The Vol Navy is one of the most amazing traditions in sports.
-I’m jealous that our fans don’t have an organized kickoff cheer (a la “Goooooooo Dawgs! Sic ‘em! Woof-woof-woof” or “Waaaaaaaar Eagle! Hey!”)
-I’m jealous that every single student in Jordan-Hare Stadium has a pompom and they shake them all in perfect unison.
-I’m jealous that when a game is completely out of hand at halftime, Vandy’s fans get to leave (without guilt or harrassment) and head to the bar.
-I’m jealous of The Grove at Ole Miss because it makes me wish I had read more Faulkner, paid attention when my grandmother was making deviled eggs, and owned a sterling silver candelabra.
-I think TOBC is the most competitive man in the history of football. The man kicked his own 40-yard field goal to beat Auburn because he trusted himself more than his own kicker.

(1) I have platonic man love for Carnell Williams. I think he was awesome and he is the one player we didn’t get during probation that makes me sick. (Followed by Chad Jackson)
(2) Tommy Tuberville is a great game-day coach.
(3) I wanted us to hire Tommy Bowden when we got Fran (and again when we hired Price). I wanted Croom when we hired Shula. I wanted Kragthorpe when we hired Saban (not instead of - I though Saban was a pipe-dream). So I’m not allowed to hire coaches. Ever.
(4) I think Steve Spurrier is the best coach the SEC has seen since I was born.
(5) I hate when the band plays “Basket Case” - Ditto, “Dixieland Delight” on the loudspeakers - Our band has boring half-time shows
(6) I think our fanbase is crazy schizo with elements of manic depression unmatched by other schools. If we lose Saturday to Ole Miss, elements of our fan base will turn on Saban quicker than if he endorsed Barack Obama.

A little late to the party, but football jesus is always ready to hear our sins, so here goes:
1) Archie Griffin was only good because he played when he did, if he played today his name would be Maurice Wells.
2) Like another buckeye fan stated abvoe, the “O-H” yell seeking the return “I-O” annoys the crap out of me.
3) OSU football feels more business than homegrown passion as I grow older, I don’t know if it’s me or if it’s reality.
4) I rooted out loud for Michigan against Florida last year and actually, for the first time in my life, felt good for UM…………………and jealous of them that they continually spank SEC teams all the while OSU even looks at an SEC team and they cornhole us. It annoys the hell out of me actually.
5) When Jim Tressel took over, we needed a serious makeover on the roster due to character issues. I feel he’s done too good of a job and we need to pump the brakes a bit and let a couple of ass kickers back into the fold.
6) I still hate Charles Woodson even though I am 10 years removed from his shenanigans and a full grown, functioning adult.

UGA Fan-
In High School I went to my First College football game was GT v Clemson when Godsey lead Tech to an overtime win over Clemson. I sang “Im a wrambling wreck from Georgia Tech and a helluva an Engineer”
My first SEC football game was when Auburn Beat Rex Grossman at Auburn, I loved it. I loved the fans, the war eagle chant, and I think that eagle that flies around is awesome (in best GW Bush Voice)
I secretly believe we are just a notch below the top flight programs in the country and always will be.
I never liked David Pollack, not a bit.

Barstoolio - maybe, if you spoke Panther between 1990-1994. I piled all my stuff in a heap and burned it after the Div. III debacle but will worship Reboul until I die.
I am told that before Cal introduced Oski in 1941, live bears mascots were used “with varying degrees of success,” and I would give a couple of toes to know what they meant by that.
Bonus confession, which if related to my family down South will result in a date with the sour apple tree:
I think Notre Dame is THE tradition in college football and the fact that they play Army and Navy all the time fills me with a warm glow of 40s nostalgia and reverence for history.

1. Even though I make fun of bama fans living off the past acheivements of their 12 national titles, I would likely strangle my cat for Auburn to have the same.
2. Carnell Wiliams might have been a little overrated. And I was embarassed for him when he spoke in public.
3. Although I say LSU fans are the most obnoxious bunch ever, I secretly admire their bourbon-soaked passion and wish our fans could be that rabid.
4. Pat Dye was one of the worst things to happen to Auburn.
5. I can’t stand Auburn fans who where the “All Auburn, All Orange” T-shirts to games.

I feel your pain. The HOPE scholarship turned me from a UF fan into a UGA fan in only a year. My father was not pleased.
Side note: we moved from Florida to Bama for dads work and lived there 2 years before moving to Atlanta for the same reason. While there, my sister graduated high school and was offered a scholarship to Auburn.

In addition
I can’t stand the attention whores that always get camera time that are covered in face paint or cowboy hats and capes. I keep thinking John Wayne Gacy every time they appear.
I too am jealous of any team that can beat an SEC team in a bowl. This is one of the great mysteries of life.
I tear up when the band makes their ramp entrance in the stadium.
I wish our good fans would turn in the ones who just want to be assholes so that the bad element disappears and we get a better reputation. I understand the rivalry better than anyone, but harrassment of fans is stupid. So is booing the UM band to the point of not hearing a note they play. It really is embarrassing.
The eagle flying in the stadium at Auburn is cool.
Alabama fans make ours look sane by comparison. But I know their pain and frustration.
LSU fans are funny, crazy and good cooks at a tailgate. The Tiger eye is the best designed logo on grass ever.
I hate that our home scarlet unis don’t have any gray on the sleeves anymore. I also think Nike sucks and wish we would dictate terms with them to either design the right color scheme or we’ll find somebody who will.

- I think overall, the Big Ten(Eleven) has the best fight songs
- I think LSU’s purple jerseys are awesome

- I want to copy Texas A&Ms tradition of “When the Aggies score, everyone scores” where everyone kisses their date after a TD
- I think MSU cowbells are a good tradition
- I think FSU honors the Seminole tribe the correct way and all native americans should take note when protesting (like the Illini nation) Don’t like the tomahawk though, it reminds me of somethign from a 1950’s sci fi movie.

UGA fan/alum and Catholic so this is almost spiritual:
-I thought when UTenn wore orange pants in the SECCG they looked pretty cool
-First game I ever went to was an Auburn home game where I rooted for Bo like a man possessed
-I like Auburn’s uniforms
-I like Tech’s Budweiser song
-I will never say anything bad about Eric Berry or Calvin Johnson
-UF’s and LSU’s home field advantage is better than UGA’s
-I find Spurrier amusing and don’t really hate him
-Peyton Manning is probably my favorite QB in the NFL
-Al Horford is my favorite NBA player
-I root for SEC teams in bowl games
-The Vol Navy is really impressive
-Alabama fans acted with suprising grace and class during the failed blackout and kept saying “We’ll see you in Atlanta in December”. I doubt UGA fans would have been as cool.
-Coach Richt’s hair is… never mind
-I don’t hate Tim Tebow.
-I grew up rooting for Tech and UGA and had a Lethal Weapon 3 (Kenny Anderson, Dennis Scott, and Brian Oliver) poster in my room. I cried when they lost to UNLV in the Final Four
-I frequently correct Dawg fans that UF and not UGA is the second best academic school in the SEC based on ratings by national publications.
-I applied to both Auburn and South Carolina
-I like SCAR’s 2001 intro
-I still can’t believe Aaron Murray didn’t pick UF and won’t feel 100% comfortable until Signing Day
-I felt bad for Tony Franklin getting canned so early
-I appreciate the fact that UF, UTenn, BAMA, SC, Vandy, and ARK have unique mascots
-I think Paul Johnson might be the perfect hire for Tech and I hate that.
WOW! That felt really good. Now some requisite smack talk so I don’t kill myself in shame. GO Dawgs - I hate the color orange and I hope Urban Meyer gets some rare form of bone cancer and pees shards of femur for a year before being killed by 1,001 carefully placed paper cuts and a bottle of bleach.

I too prefer to watch games at home on the couch - all the drinks I want, better food, no hassle of going anywhere, multiple games, and a warm puppy.
I am marrying a UF grad and find myself actually hoping they win games, not just acting like it (not the UGA game of course). They used to be the team I hated because of their fans in Jax… meeting the right fans can change your opinion of any team

1. I was adamant in getting a new coach. I wanted to trade up. Old girlfriend for new girlfriend. Tired and old for new and hot. Grind it out off tackle for 70 yd qb keepers and bubble screens. Despair for flash. I miss the old girlfriend and I think the new girlfriend might have crabs.
2. I think Joe Germaine was an absolutely bad ass and wish he went to UofM.
3. College football is the only sport that really matters. The NFL is barely watchable but they don’t pull any punches on character issues. They don’t give two shits if you have multiple DUIs, as long as you can stop the run. They don’t care if you beat your old lady, as long as you can cover. They don’t care if you sold coke to retarded elementary schools kids, as long as you can run. Big time college programs continue to feed me the same shit about these kids deserving 2nd chances and given the opportunity to mature as they grow into men. This is why they aren’t suspended for Saturday’s game. No, the reason Mack isn’t suspended is because he weighs 370 lbs. and is a fucking road grader for your all-conference tailback. Call a spade a spade. You are trying to win games at all costs.
4. B-52 fly-overs are the shit.

Bama Fan, part deaux:
-I wept when JPW threw the corner fade to Julio Jones as we went up 31-0 on Georgia at half in their blackened state of silence in their house… It was the pass I always knew he could complete when they put 8 in the box. I was proud. It came from being shocked, really drunk and in a glass case of emotion, being 10 mins removed from my wife telling me we were gonna have a girl in Feb. after having 2 boys prior, and betting on a 3rd…..(the previous 12 beers and a few Patron shots didnt help)
- I was a little worried about Auburn running the spread offense to begin with, but felt a little better when their starting QB was a Troy transfer with a bum shoulder.
- I fear that we are only 1-3 injuries away from a train wreck,or a derailment on this season…Terrence Cody, Andre Smith or Caldwell, anyone one of those guys get hurt or if all get hurt at one time and it all goes up in flames…..
- I wonder where that Florida team we saw the other night was when they played Michigan in the bowl game.

1. I’m not all that proud of Sanford Stadium. It’s great that the stadium is right in the middle of campus, and the view in from the bridge is stunning, but it’s practically unnavigable from the inside, and fans are stacked one right on top of the other. Also, I’ve been in at least four or five other stadiums that have been louder than ours.
2. I have no problem with Auburn. And I think the eagle flying to the 50-yd line before kickoff is one of the two coolest traditions I’ve seen in person at a football game (the other being Chief Osceola with his flaming spear).
3. I think Steve Spurrier is great for the SEC, and I hope he coaches in this conference until the day he dies.
4. I was a die-hard Clemson fan until I enrolled at UGA for my freshman year. I have no legitimate hatred for Jim Donnan, Ray Goff, Quincy Carter, et al. I just wasn’t around for them.
5. I didn’t start paying attention to college football until my sophomore year of high school. I enjoyed the NFL much more before then.
6. I think Bobby Dodd Stadium is a great place to watch a game.
7. Larry Munson should have quit at least five years ago. There. I said it.
8. I know facts and figures out the wazoo, but I don’t understand the X’s and O’s of the game particularly well.
9. I think I still have inner-turmoil regarding Rocky Top. Outwardly, I will always hate it. Inwardly, I like it half the time I hear it.

-I always knew Auburn fans were scared of Saban….hell Alabama fans are scared of Saban, and I really cant tell you why…he should be in the upper tiers of the Dept of Defense Black Ops Commander or something, and I and many others are convinced that he uses “Waterboarding” as a form of punishment, not “Wakeboarding” as previously thought. The biggest thing I fear is that if we succeed on a high level this year, it will set the benchmark so high for the future, he may get elected Governor if he can pull it off.
-I wish Florida would have a live 14ft Alligator on the sideline.
-I wish Alabama would have a live elephant that would break loose and would have to be tranquilized on live TV at midfield, and watch them try to move it.
-I am glad Dennis Franchione met that thing they call “Karma”
-I always felt Mike Shula was a nice guy who fell on the sword, and took the job knowing what he was up against, when most coaches who turned the job down saw how bad the talent dropoff was and knew it would be a “kiss of death” type job within a few yrs

Never Leave College, South Carolina. And the party seems to be about over, but screw it.
I hate how only 50 or so people actually know that our fight song has more words than just “Go Cocks!” and even worse, that only 15 - 20 people actually sing the song. I hate how I like Rocky Top, The Victors, and about 50 other fight songs more than both of ours (the old one is better than Step to the Rear anyways). I am envious of other schools’ traditions because we pretty much have none. I am envious that clemson has a much prettier campus than USC. I think Colorado’s Run, Ralphie, Run and Auburn’s Eagle Flyover are the coolest intros in college football (but 2001 is still up there).

- #4 is the perfect number for Joe McKnight, because he’ll never quite be #5. The staff wants him to become Reggie, but he’s overhyped. Gable or Stafon should be starting.
-I really dig Hawaii’s uniforms.
-I secretly yearn for Notre Dame to return to MNC contention, but wish nothing but biblical levels of destruction upon UCLA.
- I’d rank this year’s Song Girls at #3 in the Pac-10. I’d put Oregon, and dare I say….UCLA… above us in that regard. There’s been an unexplainable downward trend in Song Girl hotness over the last few years, and it troubles me…
-I would buy an OJ Simpson jersey, and secretly covet the few I’ve seen being worn in public.
Forgive me.

sonofsamford, Auburn.
I was caught off guard by how fast Alabama was able to turn their program around. I didn’t totally buy in to the Saban hype at first, but I appear to have been wrong about that.
It kills me that the only national championship I ever got to experience firsthand was when I was in law school at Alabama.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at both Auburn and Alabama and always laugh at academic smack between the two schools. There is absolutely no difference.
I avoid Auburn fans who wear orange on game day. They just don’t get it.

I forgot my greatest transgression of all… I applied for transfer to both Georgia and FSU during undergrad at GT. Finished at Tech and got my degree, but still… It feels so dirty to even remember that.

No matter how long Arkansas is in the SEC, no game will ever mean as much as a Texas game.

This D, Graduated from Vandy and grew up a PSU fan,
I like the Vol Navy.
I don’t hate all Vols fans. A couple of folks, in particular, but the rest of them are decent people who like a football team that plays my favorite team regularly. Nothing to demonize there.
I envy the statewide support UT gets. Hell, I envy the support they get in Nashville.
Also, I know that the rest of the SEC can read, despite what I say when I get drunk and Vandy is down by however many touchdowns. I particularly owe that apology to SEC West schools.
I should be more embarrassed by stereotypes of Vandy fans, but I’m not. I’m perversely proud of some of them, like not getting to games in anything resembling a timely manner. I should not be, and I am ashamed.
I love the OBC, despite the many things he has said about Vandy… because he’s said more about UT.
Additionally, I have a sort of fascination with Purdue and aTm, neither of which I can explain.
I find the MNC/BCS title completely irrelevant when there isn’t an SEC team playing.
Done.

I have a few more, Idaho State related and Ohio State related (I’m a diehard to both schools)
Idaho State:
I hate how nobody knows the alma mater song. I hate how we don’t have any real tailgating like Montana or Montana State. I hate how we have no real tradition and how the people in Pocatello are so obsessed with morality (you can’t drink a beer without people giving you dirty looks at tailgates). I biblicly hate how people wear Boise State gear (and Texas, USC, and whatever PAC-10 team) at ISU games.
I yearn for Ohio State to get some ass-kickers back on the team. I secretly wish Tressel would get a pair of Woody Hayes’ sized cojones and just let the guys play. I hum The Victors, PSU’s fight song and MSU’s song. I have LSU songs on my iPod.
I wish I could live in the South and be surrounded by SEC hotties.
I secretly love Les Miles

Justin (Maryland)
-Every time UMD fans yell OOOOO during the national anthem, I want to burn the entire state to the ground.
-Maryland has absolutely no rivals in Football and I really could give two shits about every other team in the ACC during football season.
-I think its pretty telling that our best returning linebacker decided to become a Maryland State Police Officer instead of return for his senior season. Because the F’n state police couldn’t wait?
-We can’t even recruit well enough to be perenially relevant in the fucking ACC.
God I hate my team.

Sister Mary Holly, may I suggest a homily to end this extraordinary supplication……..
Though we are many, we are all the same when it comes to our dedication to the battles waged on Saturday (and Thursday for the less fortunate among us). We beseech you for wisdom in these matters and humility when great warriors fail to satisfy our worldly needs (dang unwashed hoards from the land of Bamah). Please absolve us.
Amen

Cal fan:
1. I like Pete Carroll.
2. I like Oregon’s fans. Douchebags, yes, but they CARE about their team. Cal fans have too much of a California too-cool-for-school attitude…despite being largely dorks.
3. I can’t stand 90% of Cal fans, especially the undergrads who know nothing about football.
4. I am jealous of SEC fanbases and stadiums.
5. I think Michigan’s fight song is awesome.
6. I wish Stanford was good.

I was raised Southern Baptist, but since I go to Mardi Gras every year, I also give something up for Lent every year. I figure it’s not a good idea to go to God’s party and stiff him on the cover.
On that note, I’ve been getting unending amounts of enjoyment from this thread over the past couple of days and it wouldn’t feel right not to come clean myself, even if I am a day late and a dollar short. That being said-
Rebel:
1. I love LSU. Love everything about them. Love their fans, their colors, their traditions, their live Tiger. Love Louisiana, love Baton Rouge. Tiger Stadium is my absolute favorite place to see a game other than Vaught-Hemingway. Even though I say “Go to hell LSU!” at the end every time I hear the National Anthem, I don’t really mean it.
2. To hear me tell it, I hate Tennessee and the color orange make me want to vomit. Truth be told, I’ve dated 3 different red-headed Vol fans from TN, chiefly because of the orange, um, factor. And although I was never actually told to kiss the big orange, I would’ve done it. And I would’ve liked it.
3. It didn’t make me mad when we got rid of the Rebel flag, and it wouldn’t really make me mad if we dropped the “Rebels” and the rest of the symbolism too. Just because I don’t think it should send the wrong message doesn’t mean it still doesn’t, and just because it doesn’t connote that meaning to me doesn’t mean other peoples’ opinions have any less validity. My secret fantasy is that we go back to the old mascot from the early part of the 1900’s- the Mississippi Flood.
Wow. For the first time in a long time I actually feel clean. Honestly- I don’t much care for it.

LSU (again):
I am jealous of all other SEC schools that have an in-state or in-conference rival to hate. We can’t properly hate anyone. We play Tulane every year. Tulane sucks. It’s impossible to hate Tulane. As a result, my hate has no focus. Lack of a respectable foe, has caused my hate to become inefficient. My hate is weak.
I wish I could hate Ole Miss, but they’ve sucked so hard for so long I now pity them.
Hating Miss State would be like hating a three-legged dog.
We’re trying to create a rivalry with Arkansas, but it just doesn’t feel right. They would rather hate a BigXII team.
I hate Auburn and they hate us, but they hate Bama more.
Same goes with Bama. (Although, I don’t hate Bama cause of Saban. I hate them cause Tiger Stadium was their second home for a long time.)
I feel like I should hate Florida cause we play them every year and Urban is sleazy, but I secretly loved the Spurrier years. Even when he’d smoke us, Spurrier would give you a good quote. Plus, they have natural rivals in FSU and Georgia.
As such, I envy all the other SEC teams that can call someone else their rival. And therefore, I hate them all.

Miss State -
My dog’s name is Dixie.
I really wanted Urban Meyer to replace Jackie Sherill.
I miss Jackie Sherill, even though he totally lost control at the end.
I would have gone to UTK if they had offered more scholly money.
I grew up rooting for the Vols and the Tide, and never really knew about Mississippi State until I was in high school, even though my Dad was offered a basketball scholly in 1959 by Babe McCarthy.
I’m still pissed at my Dad for turning down a chance to play basketball for Mississippi State and thus dribble his way into SEC history on the 60-63 teams.
I passionately root for Army and Navy in every game they play (except when they play each other, in which case I root for Navy). Screw Air Force, though…
I am jealous of every other SEC team because they all either always have a legit QB, or get at least one at some time.
I still pull for Oregon State because my ex-fiance went there and is from Corvallis.
