Well if the NCAA wants an Witch Hunt...they got one now.....
Tuscaloosa, AL Now that it looks like the whole SEC West will be under some sort of investigation, it could have some deep ramifications for Ala-Freakin-Bama, you know, Gods team, coached by Coach Nick Saban.
Agents are like defense lawyers, only dumber (most lawyers are good, many lawyers I know who now are judges scored aroung 15-17 on the ACT, but could find a way to bullshit their way into school and somehow pass the bar.) Most are lawyers, and many think they are smarter than the NCAA, and in a world of right and wrong, black and white...
they are living in the "gray area", the area of where everything is ok until you get caught, then when you get caught or hung out to dry by some 21yr old kid who went to another agent, but took your free drinks, money, travel, cars and hookers, well then, you burn that kid and the institution that kid plays for down to the ground by chatting with the NCAA. Its just like the "Wire" or "Goodfellas", only seedier. How many kids can turn down a suitcase full of cash, and access to anything they can think of? They are fed bullshit lines like "why wait to spend this for another year or two when me and you both know you will be a top round draft pick and you can pay me later, and I wont mention all the pot you smoke or how many different steroids you are on if you sign with me and keep your mouth shut" Its like making a deal with a financial vampire who wants to blackmail you, then suck on your wallet for 30-40% of your future earnings, and lets face it, many of these kids who get into these tight spots arent from the Upper East Side and may or may not be inclined on doing things on the "down low", mainly to help their family hang in there til Draft Day comes.
And this should all be laid at the feet of the NCAA!! Why? Mainly because back in the 90's, some dumbass NCAA bleeding heart decided to take away athletic dorms, which was and is the only real way to keep control of wild and crazy 17-23 yr olds and mainly save them from themselves and dumbass decisions many have made countless times since then.(whooping ass, whooping cops ass, whooping skanks ass, driving while drunk, driving while Lohan, driving drunk on a moped, whooping the mopeds ass for making player look gay, whooping player on the back of the moped for being gay, etc)
Can you imagine our military basic training having dorms? and the recruits being able to be allowed to go out at night during training? Not saying that most kids in basic are saints, but most have more common sense than many athletes and I guarantee if you took 60 18-22 yr old kids during the summer for basic and they could go to off base living after 5pm, I bet half would be in some sort of legal issues, mainly fighting and alcohol related. Why? Cats away, the mice will play, but if the cat never leaves the Dorm and pounces hard on the ones who are more than likely to screw up, you cut alot of bullshit out right there. The Dorms real reason for existence was not to keep the players in school, it was to keep the players AWAY from the general public, and keep the players away from the outside world. Many players that go to school really arent like the general population of students who are there to get an education, get the degree, then get that job making close to six figures, nope, most athletes are there to play 3 years and make a million bucks. Point blank. Some role players on the teams are actually great students, and sometimes Rhodes Scholars. Those are rare. Many 5 star recruits arent, and will usually make a few bonehead mistakes, not graduate, then get drafted, sign with the agent that has blackmailed them for 3 yrs, then play a couple of years, get hurt, go broke and get kicked out of the league.
I still dont get why the NCAA did that and it made no sense to me then, and especially now. IF you thought kids were easy prey to bad stuff being away from home then, they are more at risk now since many kids are gonna try to push the envelope, no matter who they play for, and if they arent around or living with older players or others keeping an eye on them, well, you get a bunch of arrested kids, many kicked off the team and you get NFL agents hanging around college campuses lurking like child molesters, buying drinks, getting them drunk, then the kid wakes up swimming in cash and a signed contract in the form of a napkin.....and some skank post pics on her Facebook page of said agent with said player, allegedly, then eventually shows up on Deadspin.....then star player gets kicked off team, and then said team goes 8-4....Rinse, Repeat....

the whole thing
is absolutely crazy. How can these kids not know better than to have someone pay for a 500 dollar plane ticket to a party thrown by an agent (of course we still don’t know if they paid for things themselves, but just being hypothetical)? The irony is a co-worker and I were talking about the Pouncey situation only hours before I found out about Dareus. I actually said something along the lines of “Well at least I don’t have to worry about Bama players doing that crap anymore. We learned our lesson with Andre, Julio and Mark’s fishing trip,” et al.
And then this happens. Amazes me. And I know at Alabama they grind this into their heads every damn day. Don’t take a freakin’ piece of gum from someone you don’t know. Much less send you to a party in Miami. HEAD EXPLODE

Pouncey Situation
UF reported the anonymous letter (which was postmarked in Canada) immediately to the NCAA and Law Enforcement. The Pouncey family turned over all telephone, bank, and credit credit information and there’s no unusual activity or large payments.
I’m pretty sure we’re going to find out that this was nothing more than a “Gator Hater” with a friend who lives in Canada. I hope they can pinpoint the pinhead and prosecute him to the fullest extent possible.

I hope...
…that you are correct in your assessment here. It really wouldn’t surprise me either way.

I believe the rationale for taking away athletic dorms
was to encourage the student-athletes to integrate more into the regular student body, and an attempt to level the field in recruiting
of course, schools just started building opulent players lounges and locker rooms and academic centers instead, but I’m not sure the NCAA foresaw that happening
