SEAN TAYLOR, R.I.P.
A bad year for the Miami Hurricanes gets far, far worse: Sean Taylor, dominant safety for the Hurricanes and first round pick in the 2004 draft, has died in a Miami hospital after being shot in the leg during a break-in at his home this past Monday.
Taylor’s death from a leg injury is not as freakish as it might seem. The bullet struck the femoral artery, tearing it and causing unstoppable bleeding that left Taylor unconscious at the scene.
Miami police said Taylor was struck by the bullet in the femoral artery, causing a significant blood loss that Sharpstein told the Post “could not really be stopped, only curbed a bit.”
“Seemed like a lot of hope after he responded to the doctor’s command, but he lost of a lot of blood,” Taylor family friend Donald Walker told the Post.

Absolutely terrible. What a supreme talent and, from what I have read, great person. To die so shortly after the birth of his first child only adds to the tragedy. Condolences to his family.

Local news said he heard a noise, grabbed a machete from under his bed and went to investigate. Never start a land war in Asia and never, ever take a machete to a gun fight.

All I can think of right now is the scene in black hawk down where their pinned down in the building at night and one guy has been shot in the leg and they loose the artery and he dies on the table. Horrid, horrid way to go.

horrible tragedy, you have to feel for his girlfriend, their one year old and his family.
He was a tremendous talent and he will be missed.

Honestly, how many of us after hearing that he went to “the U” immediately thought, “oh, now this makes sense”. I am not saying that I am proud of this, but I bet that was the feeling of the ethos.

From a diehard Redskins fan since the age of three, I’ll be praying for his wife and kid. Seems like this happened right as Taylor was on the cusp of becoming a true superstar.

Dude could play for real. The U should wear the raindow colored Visors under their facemasks next year in memory. I loved the way that looked. Great gimmick for a great player.

I will always remember Maurice Clarett stripping the ball from him in the NCG in Jan 2003 to get the ball back after Taylor got the turnover. What a tragic turn those two players took. At least MC will get a 2nd chance at life. Tragically for Sean Taylor, he will not.

Word on our board was that all the break ins occurred after a Miami journalist and his paper published his home address in the local paper in an article.
Basic precepts of journalism and editing should have prevented this from ever occurring. You should just name a city/burb and maybe (upscale) type of home, not give out a multimillionaire’s home address in a city like Miami’s. Especially since he had a kid/baby living there too.
I wonder if the paper will face some serious litigation over this mistake should any of the three robbers in the last few months (including his now murderer) say they got his name/addy from the paper too.
Basically doing this and linking his NFL/U-Miami fame to a physical location (no matter how easily others could have looked it up elsewhere.) in a public paper is base and incredulously stupid journalism.
Usually they reserve street addresses for perps/convicts/peds etc in the perp walk pages of a paper and even then, some folks only quote “XXXX Block of YYYY Street/Burough/Region” etc
BTW he was a U-Miami not a Miami U player, if you think the link to website above is for the Coral Gables team. . . it isn’t.
Arterial blood loss is a bad way to go. It can take seconds, or days (if being treated). But once treated successfully there’s always the danger of large blood clots breaking free after due to the size of the artery and location/movement of limb.
Someday PHP’s (think that’s the acronym for the artificial Oxygen carriers- microsized even compared to redblood cells) will allow ER’s and EM Crews to keep a brain and heart fed with O2 even past blood clots and blockages for longer allowing them to repair damage to a location and eventually replace the blood itself after.
Dunno if it’d have helped in his case, but maybe. . .
Tough loss to a team and tougher for his family and friends. I don’t like the U, but no one deserves to die like that- especially if it was due to his name/address being printed in the paper too.

RIP, and God bless those you left behind.
On a related note, I have just returned from the Iron Bowl, and I must say that among all the things that happened that brought a tear to my eye just from being at my first game in so long, it was the moment of silence that was observed for Siran Stacey and his family, just before the National Anthem and the fly-by of the 3 jets and the beginning of the game. It was truly eerie to be standing in a stadium with 87,000 loud rowdy energetic [probably somewhat drunk] fans for a 10-second period where nobody made a sound, and in respect of a member of the family of the most hated of enemies. Really impressive- everything else seems to melt away in the face of such a tragedy.

MrG, almost every homeowner in the nation has their public address listed on their county’s website.
Not disagreeing that it was shitty for the newspaper to print it. Just pointing out that if someone wants an address, it is out there.

But addresses can be hidden behind the name of a trust as some celebrities choose to do to protect themselves. I haven’t done the leg work to find out if that was the case here, but it’s something to consider.

Um, yeah, not so sure I agree with you there. Killed “due to” the address being in the paper? That’s a stretch. Besides, you’ve offered up, what, fourth-hand information to make your case? That’s a real stretch.
