The SAfternoon-2 (Russian: S-75) was a legacy high-altitude medium-range command-guided surface-to-air missile system first deployed in the late 1950s. Originally developed to deter US strategic bombers, it developed a mixed reputation in the skies over North Vietnam. It was energetically capable and certainly lethal if it homed on the target successfully, but the somewhat archaic electronic systems design and relative lack of maneuverability made it less effective against (and itself vulnerable to) the maneuverable TAC targets it often faced in that conflict.
