As Fearless Leader Swindle pointed out in the Digital Viking last week, Chick-fil-A offered a free spicy chicken sandwich to those who signed up in time before it goes on sale to the public next week. I was lucky enough to reserve one and feel I should offer up my review.

Oh, the anticipation was great, my friends. There was tension that was almost sexual when I sat down with this sandwich. It came with the standard lettuce, tomato, and pickles. You'll also notice the pepper-jack cheese on top of the chicken. I never had the original CFA sandwich with cheese and this is definitely a welcome addition.
The heat of the sandwich was by no means unbearable. It lets you know there's some kick, but it wants you to enjoy eating it. There's no pretentiousness in trying to aggravate you or your mouth, which is a welcome change from other spicy items at other restaurants. I am no professional, but it seemed like the spices that bring the heat get into the chicken and are not just confined to the breading. The pepper-jack cheese is a good indicator of the level and feel of the spiciness. The heat is mitigated by the lettuce, tomato, and pickles but it's not wiped out. It was very enjoyable.

One negative thing I noticed was the sandwich seemed noticeably greasier than the original CFA that we've all come to know and love, but I have no idea if this will always be the case. It could have been this specific CFA, this specific sandwich, or the fact that it was the first day this sandwich was available to any of the public, so I have no idea if this will prove to be the exception or the rule. (I'm taking statistics 1 at UF right now. This is what's called a small sample size. See? I learned!)
I did not put any sauce on the sandwich. No ketchup, mustard, mayo, CFA sauce, or even the honey roasted bbq sauce. I wanted to try it in it's purest form. However, I truly believe that any of your favorite sauces in whatever combination to enjoy them will go perfectly with this sandwich.
The sandwich goes on sale Monday June 7 and I highly recommend it. (Chick-fil-A, please give me some more free ones or at least coupons or gift cards)
