Myles Brand: what does he do? Where does he eat his rubber chicken? And how does someone with a Ph.D. in philosophy make 800K a year? These and other questions are things wed like to know, so we wrote Josh Centor, the overseer of Mondays With Myles, to see if we could get in touch with the dean of the NCAA. The exchange, in chronological order, is posted below in full:

Joshua--
Can we talk with Myles? In a non-Ali G, serious interview way?
-O.
Orson's trying to talk to Myles.

In our last podcast before we took a break, Dr. Brand said that hed like to hear from listeners. Id be love to take your questions and devote a podcast to asking them to Dr. Brand (as long as they are serious questions). I could credit your blog as having submitted the questions and you can post the conversation that way. What are you thoughts?
Best,

I have thoughts, but they would have to appear wholesale, unedited, and unchanged. I'll do the favor of not dirtying them up with our usual rough language.
Sound doable?

Send me the questions youd like to ask, and as long as theyre not offensive and relate to issues, Ill ask them the way they are and wont change a word.
If I dont think they serve a purpose for our listeners, Im not going to ask them.
Shoot the questions my way and well go from there

Josh--
Okay, five questions:
1. What do you do that justifies paying you a salary twice that of the President of the United States?
2. Why go after the University of North Dakota for their mascot name? What purpose does this serve? Aren't there more important things for the NCAA to pursue?
3. Will the NCAA ever seriously sanction a major program again?
4. Does the APR mean anything when only the smallest, least financially signficant schools fail to make the grade?
5. Explain the logic re: amateur/professional athetes allowing Tom Zbikowski from Notre Dame to box professionally while stripping Drew Tate of the money he could have earned in a pro/am golf tournament for making a hole in one?
I'm posting these on the blog as submitted. Looking forward to your response,
-O.
Orson
The bottom four are fine Im not going to ask the first one Dr. Brand doesnt set his own salary and shouldnt have to defend it. If you want to discuss coaches salaries, which reach into the millions, thats a different story let me know if you have a question you want to replace it

Fair enough. Replace said question with this: "Can you explain to the average football fan what it is your organization does, exactly?" It's something many, including us, are not exactly clear on.
-O.
Orson--
OK I will ask those five questions when we begin recording Mondays With Myles again it should be before the end of August. Ill keep you posted.

The questions are now in the NCAAs box. Let's see if they make Mondays with Myles.
