Recruiting rankings are subjective, really. Sure, you can pile up all the four and five stars you want, but really, what are you without coaching and heart? That’s what really matters, unless you’re one of those soulless recruitniks bent on reducing the game to a stockpiling of arbitrarily rated talents swept up by the promises of playing time, shiny facilities, pro prospects, and definitely not a Dodge sports car on loan from a rental fleet in Texas. (Definitely not that, and definitely not at college football’s top powers.)
We’re not that kind of college football fan. We believe the heart is the most important muscle in the football player’s body, and that it’s not the size of the dog in the fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. We believe in grit, not five stars. We believe, as Bo Schembechler did, that the most important four letters in the English language are T-E-A-M.
We believe that the efforts of a group, when properly coordinated, can overcome all of your “stars” and “talent” and “dazzling athletic ability.”
With that said, with five days and change left to Signing Day, let’s randomly list teams ranked ahead of the Florida Gators in Rivals’ 2017 recruiting rankings.
- Mississippi State
- Florida State
- Virginia Tech
- SOUTH CAROLINA
No reason, just randomly listing schools recruiting better than Florida, but that’s fine because recruiting is less important than feeling good about yourself.
