LET'S FIND A REPLACEMENT FOR ONE SHINING MOMENT

IT'S A FINE SONG, BUT IF WE'RE GOING THAT FAR BACK WE CAN DO BETTER

Dear CBS Sports/Turner Sports,

You probably receive a fair number of comments asking you to retire "One Shining Moment." Though some people have strong negative feelings about the song's merits, I don't think it's that awful. It's just a little plain. Carrying on a tradition is nice, sure, but you can find an anthem for March Madness that has a 1980s throwback feel and a little more pep. Here are just a few suggestions.

1. "Jump," by The Pointer Sisters

Themes: Excitement, anticipation, fearlessness, ups

Key lyrics:

If you want more, more, more
Then jump

Works well with: Opening tipoffs, dunks, blocks, leaps of excitement

2. "When the Going Gets Tough, the Tough Get Going" by Billy Ocean

Themes: overcoming adversity, working together

Key lyrics:

I got something to tell you
I got something to say
I'm gonna put this dream in motion
Never let nothing stand in my way

Works well with: Cinderella teams, players who battled back from injuries, Bo Ryan not smiling

3. "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," by Whitney Houston

Themes: Chasing a dream, not settling for "good enough," finding the right matchup

Key lyrics:

Don'tcha wanna dance say you wanna dance
Don'tcha wanna dance
Don'tcha wanna dance say you wanna dance
Don'tcha wanna dance

Works well with: Literally everything

4. "Save The Overtime (For Me)," by Gladys Knight and the Pips

Themes: Working hard but still having fun, the limitations of time

Key lyrics:

Runnin' to the door, peepin' out the window
Hopin' to see only you
Listen for the phone, checkin' out the tick tock
Countin' if it's a certain time
Hear me now, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1

Works well with: Buzzer beaters, shot clock violations, refs checking to see if the three point shooter had a foot on the line

5. "Say It Isn't So." by Hall & Oates

Themes: Miscommunication, deteriorating relationships, Daryl Hall's perfect 80s hair

Key lyrics:

Now wicked things can happen
You see 'em goin' down in war
But when you play in a quiet way
That bites it even more

Works well with: Coaches arguing with refs, players arguing with refs, fans yelling at refs

6. "System of Survival," by Earth Wind and Fire

Themes: Surviving against the odds, grinding, putting in work

Key lyrics:

Everybody get up, do your dance
Keep survivin'
Everybody get up, do your dance
Stay alive

Works well with: Favorites escaping upset bids, dance squads at halftime, sideline players clapping in unison
