Thanks to Iowa State's complete Iowa Stateness, it's been a sort of slow middle portion of the college football day. (Unless you're heavily invested in Michigan-Indiana overtime. In that case, hey, we talked about diversifying your holdings. Don't make your retirement so contingent on watching Indiana play defense.)
But that free time did lead me to an important question: is Kentucky the East Coast Cal, or is Cal West Coast Kentucky? Consider the records. Here's Cal's:
A strong start, including a good road conference win, followed by a complete swoon after October 3. Now look at Kentucky's.
Nice start - check. Road win in conference - check. Total collapse after October 3 - check.
Consider the coaches. Each started with the program in 2013. Each is a member of a famous coaching family.
And the most damning proof that these two football teams are actually the same? If they weren't, they'd have played each other before.
So which is it? Is Cal Kentucky West? Or Is Kentucky Cal East?
