THE MORNING CONSTITUTIONAL YIELDS THE FLOOR

R.I.P. LUTZ

Kevin C. Cox

I would not consider myself an Auburn fan, and I probably groaned audibly on more than one occasion when Phil Lutzenkirchen did that thing where he appeared out of nowhere in the end zone, wide open and scoring and stomping all over the hopes of his opponent. I also didn't know Phil Lutzenkirchen in any sense of the word, but it was still a goddamn stomach punch to hear of his passing yesterday morning.

And because I didn't know him, it isn't my place to tell you about the life and legacy of Phil. I'll going to leave that to those who played alongside him, talked with him, and loved him. They'll tell his story the way he'd want it told, I suspect.

Rest in peace, Phil, and condolences to your family, friends, and former teammates.
