Well, good morning and happy Friday to all of y-OH COME ON, MARK.
Look, I know you feel obligated to get out there in front of the microphone and defend the sainted status quo with every neuron. Maybe you're totally convinced of every word you utter, or maybe you quietly think some of it is hyperbolic and grounded on poor logic; either way, I'm betting you feel that the end goal is worth it. But, shit, Mark, discretion and valor and all that.
Between the appeal of the Northwestern NLRB decision and the pending O'Bannon litigation, the wheels that will determine what the NCAA looks like in the future and how it operates are already in motion, and the relevant decisionmakers are probably not going to drop a cite to something you said on Mike & Mike. (If they do, I doubt it'll be good for you.) Public opinion won't move the scales either way, and, even if it could, you claim it's already on your side.
So maybe just stop. If you're going to talk on this, float some non-opinion about these being "complex issues" and "wanting to improve the student-athlete experience." Or just say you don't feel it's the right time to comment publicly on the matter given that there are ongoing legal disputes. What are the schools gonna do? Fire you?
Then they gotta find a new guy, and you'll be able to join the rest of us going "he said WHAT now?"
