On Saturday, June 23, in Houston, TX, the USA will host Italy in the first international rugby match played in the Bayou City since December 2001. (The USA hosted South Africa and was soundly beaten as thanks for their hospitality.) The match kicks off at 7:30 pm in the new Dynamo stadium, which is pretty awesome.
So if you're jonesing for some amateurish contact sports and live in the Houston area, consider attending with friends, family, co-workers, pets, the homeless, or whomever. Or if you're just curious about a sport that dominates the headlines in at least two countries (New Zealand and South Africa), and is more than a passing interest in quite a few others (Argentina, UK, Ireland, Australia, France, Uruguay, Kenya, and Namibia), then come on down. Ticket are available on axs.com. (Think of the small talk you'll be able to cultivate with the next Namibian you meet!)
And no, I'm not some shill for axs.com or the Dynamo or any other entity that has a finacial interest in USA v. Italy. I'm just a retired rugger who remembers the festive atmosphere of USA v. South Africa (sold out stadium, beer, beer, and more beer), and hopes to have another sell out crowd on hand for a match the USA could actually win. I also know there are other ruggers who frequent EDSBS, so consider this a promo and a PSA.
