No one takes a specific path to a career. Some head straight into their chosen profession, while others take a more circuitous route in finding their calling. Larry Fedora did not believe in karate so much as he lived it without thinking. One day he woke up and no longer needed to karate, and left for football. The gi still hangs in his closet, though. On quiet nights when the wife and kids are away visiting family, he puts it on and remembers the words of a woman he's long since forgotten: "I've got a black belt/ It makes my heart melt."
