Well, we at least know Yale was just feeding on crap in non-conference

Hopefully Princeton turns out to be the same and we roll through conference play undefeated

Give them credit. They did score 35 points.

In the Big Ten, we call that a successful evening.

Even in high school basketball

35 points meant coaches make players run laps after the game

Is that what happens when you win conference games?

Being unfamiliar with this phenomenon, I need clarification here.

It's the tradition of the FA Cup.

They put all the teams in a pot across all divisions, and draw them. I say allegedly because I find it hard to believe there isn’t an invisible hand setting up good matchups for TV each round. It gives the little guys a chance to play against one of the big boys (which is a windfall for them, since all gate receipts are split 50/50, so it’s to the advantage of the minnow to play on the road).

by ElRocco337 on Jan 28, 2012 10:17 PM EST up reply actions

The whole ethic of the F.A. Cup is that it's a goddamn chaotic free-for-all that (theoretically) even your d-bag cousin's club team could win.

Near as I can tell, anyway. So I think the random draw sort of reinforces that idea.

I love green because money be green.

The manner in which the shantyman lifted the trophy was piss-poor

look at all the greasy fingerprints he left on it. Had he been a proper coach, he would have learned from the first two titles to not handle any greasy food beforehand to avoid a bad photo like what we got. That’s not going to be good for recruiting.

C/C++ compilers have made some headway but for pure math fortran is still really really good.

Yup. Requires a lot of land to raise enough cows to keep beef cheap...

and most places outside the US that have that kind of land are pretty aggressively not into beef (India, China).

There was a minor controversy in our WWII memorial

Apparently someone decided to put a German alumnus on the wall of fallen alumni, and then people took issue with that. The argument was that if he was on there, why not Yamamoto.

Over Thanksgiving, I was in a Middle Eastern restaurant in Michigan where the Cleveland Show was playing on the televisions. One of the principal characters was wearing a burqa.

Meanwhile, the rest of the restaurant was composed of a group of Arab-American folks dressed in Middle Eastern style clothing gathered for an engagement party.

It was a surreal scene.

Nope.

I saw the damn receipt. I had one beer, bought another for a friend, $5 each. I’m assuming they’re pulling the “FUCK THE DRUNK GUY” move, but I remember everything from the bar, AND specifically signing off on a $10 receipt with a $2 tip.

Has it actually cleared the account?

I called once to fight an overcharge, and it was just a placeholder amount. Then again, it was considerably less than $25, which is a lot.

Hasn't cleared yet, so I'm calling to check their hold amount

It’s $25.01, which is very very odd. And I’ve never seen a bar use a placeholder, just the pre-tip amount that corrects to the amount with tip when it clears.

by emc503 on Jan 29, 2012 10:52 AM EST up reply actions

I have when they're insanely busy

And worried people will walk out on tabs. But yeah, that’s amazingly specific, and probably someone trying to dick you over.
