Speaking as a current professor at an AQ BCS conference school (hint: it's part of a popular meme here!), and as the first Risk Reduction Chair for the Gamma Omicron Chapter of Sigma Nu back in the late 80s, I'd argue that making watery expensive beer available at games would have mitigate some of the negative effects of alcohol on college game day. 

College kids will try to get drunk, especially on gamedays.* The prospect of  three or four alcoholless hours is a mandate for binge drinking. Early kickoff? Better start early. Night kickoff? Drink all day, etc....

I suspect that the chance to buy beer during the game might reduce the compulsion to pregame, and get drunk enough before the game to last through the game. At the same time, esp for brokeass (cheap) college kids, waiting in line to pay anklegrabbing stadium prices for beer will get old in a hurry. 

If you are a fraternity, or a D1 football program, controlled dispensation of swilly beer is your best insurance against folks poisoning themselves in your place w/ smuggled Nalgenes full of Everclear. 

*I had a former student tell me very seriously that he had to "adjust his morning drinking" if he would be watching from a friend's (booze allowed) luxury box.
