Around SBN: Lance Berkman Could Have Torn ACL

Phil Steele has become a butthurt caricature of himself

His post LSU/Bama analysis after predicting a Bama win:

"Tough loss for Alabama to LSU. Bama’s first possession got to the LSU27 but they missed a 44 yd FG. Bama’s 2nd poss got to the LSU23 but they lost 10 yds then missed a 50 yd FG. Bama got to the LSU24 but they lost 7 yds and brought in their short kicker to attempt a 49 yd’r but it was blk’d. Bama got to the LSU17 but settled for a 34 yd FG to lead 3-0. At this point Bama had a 181-55 yd edge but only led 3-0 and LSU, thanks to an offsides on 3&1 and a defensive holding on an incomplete pass on 3&4, would get a 19 yd FG on the final play of the half to tie it. LSU was int’d and ret’d to their 4 but a penalty brought it back to the 35 and Bama settled for a 46 yd FG, 6-3. LSU got a 33 yd IR to the UA15 setting up a 2 yd “drive” for a 30 yd FG to tie (14:13 4Q). Richardson ripped off a 24 yd run to the LSU28 and Bama had a great call. Maze, out of the shotgun, threw deep and the TE caught the ball, came down on his back with it at the 1 yd line but the LSU DB wrestled the ball away from him and amazingly it was ruled an int and LSU got off a 73 yd punt with 9:00 left but neither crossed the 50 and the game went to OT. In OT Bama took a sk and missed their FOURTH FG of the game, a 52 yd’r and LSU got a 25 yd FG for the win."

Oh he mad.

He may be mad, but he is also right

Revel in the win for now. No one can take it away. Just realize that everyone but LSU fans think Bama beat themselves. They won every category but the scoreboard in that game. It was self-inflicted wounds that allowed your team to win. Just pray to your voodoo gods that there is not a rematch. It might get ugly.

Some key categories Bama won

Offensive plays for a loss
Incompletions
Penalty yards
Field goals attempted

Some key categories LSU won
Rushing yards, ypc
Punts inside the 20
Field goals made

There’s a reason they keep score. Bama was outgained by Texas, Auburn, and Tennessee in 2009. In fact, 2009 Tennessee-Bama was similar to this year’s LSU game, except it was Bama that got dominated on yardage and Tennessee that failed on three 40+ yard field goal attempts. I guess y’all were lucky there wasn’t a rematch.

Well....

Tennessee didn’t have a game like that again….. Alabama is fully capable of beating LSU during a second meeting.

Fumbles. It was always Fumbles

Also

LSU three red zone possesions v. Bama 1. I saw somewhere that Bama ran a total of 6 plays inside the 30 for a total of -17 yards. This is why every single one of LSU’s FG attempts was shorter than all of Bama’s. Yes, their kicker is worse than LSU’s, but they also asked him to kick significantly harder kicks than LSU.

Finally, in regards to “it could get ugly”, I’m not sure you should threaten to run up the score on a team when you just scored a grand total of 6 points against them in a game played in your stadium that went into overtime.

My idea is that every specific body strives to become master over all space and to extend its force (--its will to power:) and to thrust back all that resists its extension.

wow

Maybe Bama should have gotten ugly the first time? But, hey, the Tigers sure do appreciate the Tide holding back and saving the extra ugly for the rematch that won’t happen. There’s a thought for you Les, next time LSU is in a game with the clearest of MNC implications in our own division, lets lose and then pray that we get a rematch so we can really show ‘em who’s boss.

"amazingly it was ruled an int"

I guess sometimes our collective cynicism does make it pretty ‘amazing’ when the correct call is made.

yeah, he must've had it muted

when the ref said “the call on the field is confirmed”

Not just ‘stands’ Steele, ‘confirmed’. That makes it sting a lil more.

To be fair

Ive seen “confirmed” calls that were clearly and obviously wrong. But it generally takes ACC officials for that level of screwup.

I've seen one from a B1G crew this year

Was in the Michigan-NW game. There was also the Michigan-MSU game a few years ago (2008?) where an obviously correct call was made on the field, reviewed, and overturned.

I've got this terrible pain in all the diodes down my left-hand side.

EXCUSE ME SIR.

I believe you’re forgetting a certain conference where onside kicks can go 8 yards, be recovered by the kicking team, ruled on the field as being a legal catch, reviewed, and confirmed. BAD OFFISHIATIN NASHUNAL CHAMPIONSHIP PAWWWLLLL —
