Auburn, AL-Only mere days after the allegations that Cam Newton or his father had an agent shopping his talent around for the highest bidder, it is starting to look bad for one of the most electric football players of 2010.
The timing could not have been worse. Auburn, under Gene Chizik, has one of the best offenses the SEC has seen since Tim Tebow graced the field, and Cam was the heir apparent to the Heisman throne at Florida. Then things started to get a little sketchy. Laptopgate came and went, and Tebow decided to stay one more year at his goal of going undefeated and winning a BCS National Championship in back to back years. Then, and only then, did Cam decide to "up and leave" Florida once he saw that he was not in Urban Meyers good graces, on or off the field. Say what you want about Urban Meyer, he knows talent when he sees it, and had Cam panned out for Florida, they would be on another tear thru the SEC right now. Auburn runs a very similar system, and the numbers that Cam has churned out alone are kinda staggering. Now everyone knows the kind of kid Tim Tebow was in college, on and off the field, and I think Cam knew he wasnt that guy, or even close to being that guy, and plus he would be following a legend, and any mistake he made would be harped upon, even on the smallest of details. So I get that part of wanting to just get the hell outta there, just to get out of Tebows shadow, and he may have gotten a taste of Urban Meyers cold shoulder, and felt he may be wasting time waiting for a chance that may never come since players know when "things arent right" between them and their coaches. In those types of situation, when a trust is broken, the player will never, ever win, and I think Cam may have saw the writing on the wall. Cam knew he could play, hell, he felt he could have contributed when Tebow was a Junior, and never saw good action, and I bet he knew then that it wasnt gonna work out. I have friends that played at Bama that were in similar situations, who had playing time as freshmen, were slated to start as redshirt Sophs, and because they got into a tiff with their position coach, they were put on a shelf because, even after the head coach asked the player and the coach "Why arent you playing "Player X" more, hell he practically started all last year?" the position coach would simply say "that player has a bad attitude" and that would be that..a coach is ALWAYS gonna back up his assistants.....then the player has to weigh the fact that he may not see the field, even as a prototypical NFL type ht and weight and speed, he has to make a decision to go somewhere else and hope the league finds him, because once you get that "troublemaker" or "attitude problem" moniker, you are just banging your head against a wall, and I think Cam kinda saw that writing on the wall in huge ass letters.
Where all of this gets even more strange is the fact all of these things went down after Blinn college. Some huckster name "Kenny Rogers" aka "Willie Nelson" or I would have preferred "Lil Wayne", supposedly knew Cams dad on some sort of level, whether from football camps or in passing. Who knows. It gets weirder when Dan Mullen leaves Florida for Miss St, and at the same time, Cam was looking for a place to play, and no better place would be with Dan Mullen, a guy Cam knew and was cool with since they had a previous coach-player-recruit relationship while at Florida, and it would be an easy transition since he knew Dans system, took visits, both official and unofficial, and at the 11th hour, just had to go to Auburn to visit, and never came back. A quote that sticks with me to this day, Dan Mullen was asked about "how did you lose a former player, Cam Newton, which you groomed to take Tebows place in your offense, to Auburn?" and Dan just simply stated..."We didn't LOSE Cam to Auburn."....what was left unsaid kinda made you go "Hmmmmm, thats kinda interesting, what the hell does THAT mean?" What is even funnier is the fact that Miss St got a 10% discount than what Auburn was supposedly willing to pay....Now what I do know is, when you are in the top 5 in the nation on a team that has been out of the running in the National spotlight since 2004, on a team that seemingly went out and got 5 star talent left and right and even snagged a few from other rivals, even up to having them de-commit on verbals, and then come out of nowhere and go to the number 2 spot in the polls, eyebrows are gonna be raised. Hell, suspicions get raised anytime Auburn starts out 7-0 since Terry Bowden was there, people just need a reason to pounce and pile on. Well, they got it when this story broke. When the NCAA starts sniffing around ANY program, even JAX St., things seem to just pop up out of nowhere, much less Auburn, where suspicion with the NCAA goes hand in hand with being successful. Now you throw in the FBI, and now things get interesting when charges like "perjury" get thrown about, never mind the privacy laws that were blatantly disregarded by the supposed "out of control Bammer media conspirasah to get Cam suspended before the Iron Bowl, PAWLL, they all in conclusion together, PAAWWLL, and PAWWLL, dew we kno' if Cam was akshully born here, cuz he won't show us no certificate, PAWLL, whut else is he trying to hide? I bet he drinks coff syrup, PAWLL, and Imma purtty sure he sells steroids to Boy Scouts, but we just caint be too sure, can we PAWLL? I can tell you he is shifty, just look how his ears up top are close to his head, then flair out at the bottom, PAWLL, just like a hyena, and you cant trust no Hyena's now, can ya PAWWLL, they laff at u, then they drag your body cross the desert, just like Cam is draggin this investigation cross the desert of the internets!! Just tell him to admit it, PAWLL!!
If his dad is guilty, he is guilty by relation, PAWL!!!" For the record, I hope all of this BS blows over, I dont like the way this is going down, and it sucks because I kinda see a bigger conspiracy in all of this, like the BIG 10/12 media wanting the SEC frontrunner to get derailed because its on a collision course with another BCS championship....but just like all other investigations involving the SEC, there will be collateral damage, whether it means overagressive media types just running and gunning with a story with little or no verifiable sources, or lawsuits to clear one's name that has been besmirched. Nothing is worse than being accused of something that isn't true, even though it looks bad because of past behavior, shouldnt convict you before all of the evidence is weighed, Auburn player or not. I would love nothing more than to beat a great Auburn team in T-Town with a QB with a clear head than to beat them and have them throw the *asterik on it because "Cam threw 4 pick 6's because of the investigation"....RTR
