haven't posted here since my aborted college football project, but here's a better idea than that one. And inspired, like all good things, from Ismail al-Jacksonvilli himself:
So here's the idea. It's called Day of Ashura, and Wiki can do the lifting.
Shi'as believe the Battle of Karbala was between the forces of good and evil with Husayn representing good while Yazid represented evil. Shi'as also believe the Battle of Karbala was fought to keep the Muslim religion untainted of any corruptions and they believed the path that Yazid was directing Islam was definitely for his own personal greed....Certain rituals like the traditional flagellation ritual called zanjeer zani or zanjeer matam, involving the use of a zanjeer (a chain with blades) are also performed. These are religious customs that show solidarity with Husayn and his family.
And really, you just change some nouns, and you have your standard college football fanbase.
So here's what you do:
1) Blast this song:
2) Hand out either aforementioned zanjeers or hugeass dhol drums
3) See accompanying picture
Seriously people. It's fourth down on the 30, and the entire stadium is either clapping, praising Hussein, or doing something like this but with more bass music:
That...would be effective, I think.
I'm from the midwest, where we'd be too cold to go shirtless. But considering all of the self-flagellation going on in the SEC East anyways, you might as well get the best home field advantage out of it too, no?
