The Freek is Not that Awesome Dept:

It just took Saban “that” look and ONE punch to knock out Meyer. The Freek gave Urban too much credit actually needing a few punches to go down like Frazier!!!!

I think a better choice

would have been the scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark where the big guy comes out twirling the sword, and Indy just sighs, pulls out the revolver and blasts the guy.

Or maybe the youtube video where the ultimate fighters or whatever are facing off, and the one guy is whirling and spinning and taunting the other guy, who just stands there until his opponent gets himself off balance and then drills him with a foot to the head.

Your version suggests an opponent with some skill.

With Addazio, Meyer struggles to swing the sword without lopping off his own dick in the process.

Let's Give Three Cheers for Tebow Dept:

Now we know how valuable Tebow was…the new guy could not complete the jump pass that Tebow had down as a Freshman.
Swindle should figure out a way to put Tebow on the banner…

by SKLM on Oct 4, 2010 5:18 PM EDT reply actions

They should either move away from the "Tebow" memory....

either accept that Brantley is Brantley and have a power running game around his drop back passing, or pull the plug on Brantley and run Urbans offense with Trey Burton, the way it should be run, or more similar to an Urban Meyer offense, and live and die with this choice like Rich Rod did at Michigan….seems to be a rough road the first year, then once the game slows down for Burton, he should be able to put up Denard-type numbers next year….. This last game looked like Urbans first visit to Tuscaloosa minus Tebow and Prothros injury, where they were trying to run an abomination of the Spread with a drop back passer known as Leak…and find a better offensive coordinator, defensive coordinator….or just call this year a “rebuilding year” and be done with it.

Listen, strange women lyin' in ponds distributin' swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

by mrpelicanpants on Oct 4, 2010 6:02 PM EDT up reply actions

Burton's not a world class athlete like Shoelance

but I agree. If you’re going to stubbornly run the option, then use the QB that can run it. It’s not like Brantley is putting up Heisman numbers at QB anyway. The loss of most of the passing game might be worth getting a decent ground game going.

Weoejuwejhdjwe!

by Chekhov's Spread Gun Option on Oct 4, 2010 7:58 PM EDT up reply actions

And you nailed it.

Brantley is a drop back passer and running the option with him is just stupid. The kid looks like a good QB. He does have an arm and after watching the Ark game you would think they would have let the boy just chunk it. Forcing your system on players not equiped to run it is futile. Why recruit a pocket passer to that system? Why did Brantley want to go to that system? I don’t get it. Florida was wicked in 2008 when Tebow was on his passing game. He made some great throws to beat Bama, and of course could tuck it and run. I agree, if you’re going to run the spread, stick Burton in there and go with it. Brantley gets screwed, but like I said, what the hell did he go there for in the first place. Spurrier is long gone.

The missing piece is DAN MULLEN

UF’s offense has never looked the same since Dan left. MSU is going places, and UF’s offense looked pedestrian with Tebow 2009.

Mullen

Mullen was creator of the since patented wheel of offense seen here

So I am not so sure what an upgrade he’d be. Both have flashes of brilliant game plans and strategies but both seize up under pressure.

A good coach coaches the talent he has to what they do best.

For two years RR was putting a square peg in a round hole and had disastrous results. I’m still waiting for the inevitable faceplant when they face a good team/defense. I’m not sure the UF fanbase wants to have a rebuilding year. That said, I would hope that Urban isn’t the one trick pony that RR has proven he is. But so far, I haven’t seen much from this years iteration of UF.

by Crabapple Buck on Oct 4, 2010 9:39 PM EDT up reply actions

Meyer was able to work Leak into his offense

Leak didn’t “grasp” the option offense, although he had a better handle on it in his second year than he did his first. It also helped having Tebow back there.

Brantley is more awkward than 2005 Leak right now. 05 Leak was at least putting up huge numbers through the air early on.

Weoejuwejhdjwe!

by Chekhov's Spread Gun Option on Oct 4, 2010 9:42 PM EDT up reply actions

I didn't watch/don't remember every 2006 UF game

But didn’t they run less option with Leak that year once it was obvious he just couldn’t do that very well?

by ElRocco337 on Oct 4, 2010 10:09 PM EDT up reply actions

He didn't run it often

he pitched the ball at an acceptable time when he did run it though. Brantley kind of moseys towards the sideline until the DE can bullrush both Brantley and the pitchman then he pitches it so someone else can take the hit.

and, there was that world class defense to contend with...

on top of a senior, veteran QB. But this kid, with no interior running game, a dick-tongued OC, and no appreciable snaps prior to the season, is somehow supposed to step into BDS as his first conference roadie and make magic happen?

nah, I don't expect a win

I do expect a much higher passer efficiency rating than Matt Fucking Simms though. Right now, Brantley is about 1.23 points above Simms.

how the ’06 team was bad ass…

What's what I remembered

Basically, they decided to limit his stupidity to the 2-3 passes he threw per game that were right at opposing linebackers instead of also making him try to run the football regularly.

by ElRocco337 on Oct 5, 2010 7:50 AM EDT up reply actions

In 2006

The Gators were undefeated and went into a hostile road environment (Auburn) and the offense got manhandled. Chris Leak looked like he had no idea what he was doing at QB. The offense before that game was barely scraping by and avg only about 25 ppg vs SEC competition. The offense didn’t do much better the rest of the year, but the defense didn’t give up more than 20 points in any game other than the SECCG.

This team is going to have to try to emulate that team, and not the 2007-2009 versions on offense. The offense is going to have to play smart, not beat themselves, and hopefully the defense will make the plays. If the offense keeps shooting themselves in the foot and turning the ball over, they are going to lose a couple more. Starting against LSU, and their defense.

by Mikanakinos on Oct 5, 2010 8:32 AM EDT up reply actions

Leak could win games when he needed to

He could also lose them. Right now, JB hasn’t really done either (the 2 picks certainly didn’t help win, but it didn’t lose at Bama either).

Weoejuwejhdjwe!

by Chekhov's Spread Gun Option on Oct 5, 2010 10:00 AM EDT up reply actions

I would argue

That the pick 6 when we were starting to finally move the ball was pretty much “losing” the game. And the earlier pick led directly to another TD for Bama. So, yeah, he may have had some help, but he definitely was part of losing the game. And that awful falling handoff attempt inside Bama’s 5 wasn’t great either.
