CHAMPS SPORTS BOWL: OPEN THREAD
For fact-type analysis, Holly's preview is as good as you'll get, but consider this to be your open thread for the Champs Sports Bowl, where Wisconsin fans hopefully will watch out for each other better than they have in the past. You can't do that in the savage streets of Orlando, where you'll be kidnapped and butchered for parts by the degenerates who serve as costumed characters for the theme parks.

In Holly’s preview:
just remember this is an honorable contest that once saw fit to name infamously awful Georgia Tech quarterback Reggie Ball its Most Valuable PlayerThat game is #1 on the Top Ten Worst Syracuse Football Games of the Aughts. GO [Reggie Ball-lead, lolz] JACKETS; STING ’EM!

Reggie Ball was the MVP because he was throwing to Calvin Johnson.

This should be a fun one…better than that insufferable Eagle Bank Bowl…

I live slightly north of Orlando, and at about 2pm this afternoon I received 4 texts from friends and former co-workers telling me that they were literally given handfuls of tickets at about lunch time and they didn’t know what to do with them. I’m not sure exactly how, but I was able to turn down each and every one of them. This must be a really well-attended bowl game.

IIRC that particular incarnation of the Champs Sports Bowl saw Syracuse’s brand new AD basically fire his head coach during a half-time interview, thereby ushering in the Gerg Robinson era.
Probably the proudest moment in Chan Gailey’s entire tenure.

Lou and Mark trying to comment on this whole Texas Tech deal is painful.

I think the Eagle Bank Bowl has been getting a bad rap here. Did you see ESPN’s field reporter ask Al Golden what it would take to get him to put on a coat at the half? Golden replied that he was “Temple Tuff,” jogged away, then came back to the camera to clarify that “Tuff” is spelled “T-U-F-F.” Also, they interviewed Maurice Jones Drew who was on the UCLA sideline and asked him about Tebow joining the Jags, to which Drew replied “I’m not sure that’s the kind of player we need right now” before backing off and saying “I’m not a GM, but whoever drafts him will get a great player.”
I don’t see how Wisky stands a chance tonight. Thanks to the documentary, The U has been imbued with a sense of the moment and its place in history. Also, Miami’s only three losses came 1) at Virginia Tech in a typhoon after the Canes’ hyped 2-0 start over ranked opponents; 2) vs. Clemson with Jacory Harris throwing three picks and C.J. Spiller going apesh*t with 300 total yards and two 50+ yard touchdowns; and 3) another three-pick performance by Harris against the UNC defense. Tonight: No typhoon; no Spiller; and no UNC defense.
Big Ten will have to wait until Jan 1 for the Buckeyes to get over on the Ducks.

This may not go well. However, I did work at Champs in high school—and therefore may need to scotch away the flashbacks.

@Paragon SC – Al Golden classed that Bowl up with the tie and slacks.

@CGB yes he did…he is a class guy. Slick Rick on the field OTOH cheapens any bowl though…

Interesting start here. Miami speed and air Wisky?

Excuse me Orson/Holly – whoever, I am new at this and thought that email was still good. Please delete my entries and I will try again if I can think of something worthwhile.

For the record, even the organ-harvesting costume characters of Orlando make may when the traveling Jersey Shore road show that is the Miami fanbase comes to town.
Kidding, of course; everyone knows Hurricane fans don’t travel to Landshark Stadium, much less Orlando.

WILL EVERYONE JUST LEAVE POOR REGGIE BALL ALONE

Also, Miami decided to nap through the first 58 minutes and start playing offense long after it’s too late to matter.

Iowa-USC Orange Bowl, Ohio State-Florida, Bears-Colts. If a team returns an opening kick-off for a touchdown, they will lose.

“Leave Reggie Alone!”
No Sir, I will take every opportunity to pot shot that lousy guy, as a GT student during his entire reign of terror. This is because he played with minimal integrity, not because we lost 40% of the games he started.
The dude had the indecency of not passing his classes and was academically intelligible to play in the Gator Bowl, which is pretty piss poor, when you’re a senior. Even a chimp can pass Management at GT, it’s rigorous but not hard when you get the athletic benefits. This on top of the fact that he played the most selfish ball ever, routinely trying to run his way out of a mess when he’d have been better off throwing it away. He was obviously arrogant because didn’t accept any coaching in the 4 seasons he played. He didn’t improve from game 1 til the end. If we had had a decent QB in those times, we had a 1st round WR and a 3rd round draft RB, among studly other defenders, we would have been much better.

Field conditions were shitty and look to only get shittier for the Cap One game.

Conversely, Wisconsin slapped Miami around for 58 minutes, and eased up for the last two.
