I don’t know… Florida gave up TWO touchdowns to the jawja ginga ninja, AND gave up another dance party.

Clearly Florida is overrated and heading to another Outback Bowl. (For the slow… Yes that was, in fact, sarcasm).

At least this year’s beatdown is not accompanied by the WOOOOOOOO Orson Face on the title graphic. It would give the kiddies nightmares.

by JD on Nov 1, 2009 1:21 AM EDT reply actions

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.

Clearly our takeaway from all of this should be to never, ever, let any player with the name “Joe” “Joseph” “Joey” or any other variation thereof (lookin at you ‘Jose’) play quarterback at Georgia. Not that Logan did demonstrably better (see above).

Hats off to the Gators on another impressive victory. With any luck, today is the day we finally put Willie out to pasture, but I think the entire defensive staff is fair game. I was constantly amazed by our complete lack of coverage. The corners were a good 10 yards off every receiver, and the line – when it actually got a good push – looked almost scared to try and tackle anybody in the backfield.

Perhaps most distressing was the lack of discipline. Dumb penalties (though some were admittedly questionable) but really just dumb players. I should not see some second stringer strutting around after a big hit down 3+ scores late in the game. Disgraceful.

In the final analysis – 4 games left in the regular season, I still think 3-1 is obtainable if we get our stuff together. After tonight, not so sure. 2-2 is most probable, 1-3 is absolutely unacceptable. Regardless, we’ll know a lot more about where the program is headed after this offseason.

by Red and Black on Nov 1, 2009 1:41 AM EDT reply actions

Georgia did great on offense with two touchdowns, but I guess when you pass against them (and can’t gun it in like Ryan Mallet) you are playing with fire. Defense probably needs a breather against Vandy though before South Carolina.

Color me unimpressed. A great team would have taken this pathetic UGA team behind the woodshed without their substantial self-inflagration. i just think that UF is going to mighty surprised when they actually play a very good team. I am pretty convcinced there are no great teams this year.

I for one, am thoroughly impressed that Florida can dismantle an inspired UGA team like they did….

Is Tebow the best player ever on a CFB field? Certainly one of the most influential…

I regret that he only has 4-5 more games to spread licks to defensive personnel

Agreed. But do n ot think UF will get their ass handed to them.

As far as “great” teams this year go, it seems like everyone wants to see two top 10 teams go at it hammer & tongs with one just absolutely getting blown out of the water from play one, which has not happened yet (re: Clempson or Gawga/Bama 2008). That either means there is parity among the top 10 or nobody has the depth of talent to kick ass en route to a 31-0 halftime lead. I opt for the latter.

Hell, even Vandy was leading the BEEEEEESSSSSS at the end of the 3rd qtr. And rumor has it that Jevan Snead’s name will be taken off the back of his jersey and be replaced with OVERRATED.

Four interceptions… all by linebackers. Mmmm, that is delicious. While it turns out that teams that actually challenge our secondary can actually move the ball a little, it’s nice to know all the interceptions last year wasn’t a fluke.

I was being a bit more rational Florida fans. Look at the numbers and you will find that UF pretty much got what UGA has been giving out this year. Hell, UGA looked better running against them than just about anyone this year. I hate all things UF, no doubty. But, in this case, all my bitterness is directly aimed at the UGA sideline. I am just pointing out that I have yet to see any team out there in the college football world look like they have both a great offense and a great defense. UF has a great D, but their offense is only working this year when they play lower D1 and DIA teams- and I most definitely put UGA’s “defense” in that category.

by Meg on Nov 1, 2009 10:52 AM EST reply actions

Hey, Georgia fans, want some lemon juice for that paper cut? There’s a not-at-all kidding argument on the GT board about whether Duke or Georgia is going to be tougher to beat. Everyone admits that Georgia has much better players (probably more overall talent than Tech has, if not at the skill positions), but Duke proponents note how much better the Devils play as a team. Ouch, that’s gotta sting.

How wonderful is it that Georgia fans are reduced to complaining about penalties after a 24 point beatdown?

It brings me immeasurable joy. Here’s hoping for a 1-3 finish, and staying home this bowl season!

by JL on Nov 1, 2009 12:00 PM EST reply actions

No question that Spikes is not what one would call a gentleman on the gridiron——and by the look of him he’s at least 30 years old——but I digress. When dealing with this type of player and the other various showboating from the Gators, you’ve got two choices: 1)Whip their butts and keep it from happening 2) Complain about it afterward. Winning cures all ills, and excuses most all misbehaviorin’ and misdemeanorin’. Bulldogs need to congratulate the Gators…….and find players of their own similar to Spikes. If Dawgs want to make this a rivalry again, they’re gonna have to toughen up and quit complaining.

by Farsider on Nov 1, 2009 12:01 PM EST reply actions

@Afletic Dawg, would it make you feel better to have gotten that 15-yard on the kickoff penalty? I’d say Florida would have been happy to give them to you. Your coach had surrendered, given up a game, with 6 minutes left, probably trying to avoid having timeouts called on him at the end, when he was only down by 17 points. If he’s not going to care anymore, ala Kiffin, then why should the refs?

by Irwin Fletcher on Nov 1, 2009 1:07 PM EST reply actions

Maybe it was a little payback for the bitchmove your guy Nick Williams pulled on the first play of UF’s second series. You know, where he put a little helmet-to-helmet on Tebow? You know, well AFTER the ball had been handed off? You know, AFTER Williams had already slowed up because the ball had been handed off – and then decided he could take a cheap shot?

And then UF drove the rest of the 92 yards. And scored.

STFU.

by NativeSon on Nov 1, 2009 1:21 PM EST reply actions

I agree with you. Until he can figure out how to play smart, I would absolutely prefer to see Nick Williams hanging out on the sideline. What is a good play worth if it will only be followed by a personal foul.

by zzgator on Nov 1, 2009 3:33 PM EST reply actions

The Spikes move was inexcuseable. I guess it is ok until you get caught.

So what happens if Spikes does real damage? Just for the sake of argument, let’s say something like that happens during last years MNC game. Spikes gouges Bradford and Bradford becomes blind in one eye, completely taking away an NFL career in one terrible move.

I don’t give a flying fuck if Georgia hits Tebow late after every fucking play. This isn’t some kind of retaliation bullshit, and the SEC needs to step up and make an example out of Spikes. In my opinion, it also needs to be more than one game, being that there is alot better chance of permanent damage from an eye gouge than there is in a punch. Remember the lineman for the Browns that was blinded by an errant ref’s flag?

@Meg

UF has a great D, but their offense is only working this year when they play lower D1 and DIA teams- and I most definitely put UGA’s "defense" in that category.

Actually, since the Kentucky game, the offense hasn’t even been working against lower IA defenses (Arkansas, Miss St). It’s been moving the ball, yes, but not finishing the job. So the fact that we managed to score in the red zone—even against a bad defense like Georgia’s—is cause for celebration at this point as a step in the right direction.

by Gator Bone on Nov 1, 2009 5:51 PM EST reply actions

What pisses me off about other Georgia fans is that we can only revert to calling Florida “classless”. Really? That’s all we’ve got? I’m glad that we’re so classy that we enjoy serving up a nice big ‘W’ to the Gators every year.

I’m sure that I’m pretty classless when it comes to Florida. A lot of Georgia supporters are. I don’t see why we need to feign this Southern hospitality bullshit when we are getting our dicks stomped on. It hasn’t worked for the past 20 years.

I hate Brandon Spikes. Have since the Knowshon Hump last year and all of his antics since. I would not have been disappointed to see a UGA player go out of his way to stomp on his knee. Why should I? He doesn’t feel bad about physical harm not associated with the normal risks of playing football.

by Paul on Nov 1, 2009 5:51 PM EST reply actions

El Kabong: You said: “I don’t give a flying fuck if Georgia hits Tebow late after every fucking play.”

by hobeg8r on Nov 1, 2009 5:59 PM EST reply actions

Your tears are delicious, Georgia fans. That was a very chippy game and Spikes definitely contributed to that. Not excusing it, but I love your righteous indignation. It’s so Ducks Unlimited and “Ties and Sundresses to the game”. Enjoy Shreveport.

by Kerwin4two on Nov 1, 2009 6:11 PM EST reply actions

Gator Bone:

UGA is pretty much dead last or in the double digits of every SEC category defensively, except running D ( mainly because why would any team bother to run when they can pass every single down and score more quickly).

However, steps in the right direction are certainly cause “to celebrate”. Just don’t be surprised when you hit a decent D and relazie that step was simply false.

by Meg on Nov 1, 2009 6:25 PM EST reply actions

UGA fans and their self-righteous indignation about Spikes’ behavior is, well, self-righteous indignation. The move was blatantly illegal and possibly criminal, but UGA fans need to extricate that action from their comments about Florida fans and players in general. Two reasons. One, UGA offered Spikes’ a scholarship, and having an offer from UGA and UF is something practically all players on both rosters have in common. Two, Spikes is from North Carolina, and I don’t see how the actions of a Carolinian have any relevance to a fan who roots for a team in Florida.

I know its much easier to spit anger at the opposing team instead of looking in the mirror, but UGA is not a good football team. Nobody is better at getting less production out of more talent. With Florida on top of the division and Tennessee rising out of an almost decade-long malaise, Georgia will be back in their rightful position of 3rd in the division.

I do not condone violence aimed against the fairer sex, but this kind of annoys me:

“…take a good look at your own delusional nasty ass fans. it’s one thing to talk shit to a taunting gator fan. but to almost get physically violent with a small 5′1 girl? fuck you.”

The problem I have with the statement is that most of the times, the “taunting gator fan” and the “small 5’1’’ girl” are one and the same. “Turn the other cheek”, “Be a man and suck it up” come to mind as proper reactions to a wasted girl spouting off at the mouth, but she is at least inviting Georgia fans to give her shit [verbally and not physically, of course]. Trust me, Georgia has a ton of those girls too. And you are correct, we do have more patience with fans from schools not wearing Orange and Blue while doing the Gator Bait chomp.

Also, rjsplow – “I know its much easier to spit anger at the opposing team instead of looking in the mirror, but UGA is not a good football team.”

I’d say Florida did/does a pretty good job of further proving to everyone that Georgia is not a good football team. But it doesn’t mean that your two scenarios are mutually exclusive. Georgia and suck and Brandon Spikes can be a dick at the same time. The universe is still intact.

One thing I will say, is that at least Spikes can cash the checks his mouth writes. Prince Miller cannot, but still spouts off at every opportunity which pisses me off to no end.

Gator fans have short term memories. It hasn’t been that long ago that they were reliable with 3 and 5 loss seasons and all hated Chris Leak.

I guess the sentiment is that football is cyclical. Talk shit and crow while the getting is good because every team ends up eating that crow within a few seasons. Until Florida gets beat, they can talk shit. And yes, regardless of the merits of Georgia, Spikes played dirty and should get a one game suspension. All sorts of shit goes on in the pile, but it isn’t talked about. When caught on camera – time to pay the piper.

Petey pablo, muthafucka…”

by Cocky Scar on Nov 1, 2009 9:07 PM EST reply actions

m – I probably did not state my words clearly. I didn’t mean to say any fans wearing school colors should be harassed, but the ones who are being jackasses. The ones spouting off at the mouth, even if they are 5’1’’ girls, should expect to get shit talked back to them. Notice I didn’t even exclude Georgia fans from that group?

That’s the point I was originally making. Florida fans are jackasses to Georgia fans. Georgia fans are jackasses to Florida fans. I don’t see why the fan bases try to act like they’re above the other side regarding moral issues. It doesn’t make it right, but taunting is prevalent on both sides of the aisle. To assume that it’s only Georgia fans is being ignorant.

If you promise me 17 of the next 20, I’d be happy to take all the taunting (not fistacuffin’) in the world from any fan base.*

On another front, can we all finally get over the Bye/No-Bye prior to the game crap? Florida is 3-1 since 1990 (90, 91, 09 = win 07 = loss) when Georgia is off and Florida isn’t. Since ’90, Florida is 12-1 when the roles are reversed. So yeah, technically the bye helps UGA lose at a lower %, but me thinks the players/coaching is the MUCH more important factor in the ultimate victor.

After Dockett tried his hand at ligament adjustment on Graham in the pile, I’ve really not been a fan of dirty players. Not that this is the first questionable thing Spikes has done, but enough is enough. I’d be down for a 3 game suspension so he can come back and unleash his rath of cheapshotery on FSU.
