I dont know which is worse for Tues at work, having to listen to ND fans,Tenn fans or Auburn fans go on about how awesome they were whilst they dined on cupcakes, and how “lucky” Alabama was. Now that Oklahoma has stumbled, the door is wide open for ND to waltz on in since they really dont have anyone to get in their way, and we get to hear about it 24/7…

Mr. Pants,
ND will be embarressed next week by Michigan (who will play WAY over their heads); who in turn will drop to their knees and suck some Eastern Michigan Eagle cloacas the following week….bringing UM fans back to reality.
Anyone have recommendations for best bloody mary in Atlanta? I stupidly promised my fiance I would study today, but forgot all about the Ole Miss game, so now I have to go “study” somewhere that has a tv, and copious amounts of bloody mary mix….
“Now that Oklahoma has stumbled, the door is wide open for ND to waltz on in since they really dont have anyone to get in their way, and we get to hear about it 24/7…”
The MWC beat a ranked OOC opponent on a neutral site! Whoooo! MWC RULZ! 4-REEL!!!!! Utah wanted to schedule the NFC Pro Bowl team but the pros were too scared and the BCS and Stone Cutters would allow it! We can’t act like we’ve been here before, because we haven’t!!!
While we’ve all become accustomed to all Bammers’ egocentric view of the world, Auburn fans will crow about how awesome last night was in the context of last year’s suckitude. While LaTech is no one’s VaTech: (1) they were everyone’s, and I mean EVERYONE’S, trendy pick for an upset in week 1; (2) there are a helluvalot more stout than WKU to open the season; and (3) I seem to recall that they have knocked off a couple of other SEC teams recently (and one was 2 years running).
Auburn isn’t back in the BCS running just yet, and last night exposed many flaws that will bite us in the arse down the road, but it was the most sound offensive performance by Auburn in years, something giving all Aub’s a nice warm fuzzy feeling inside, for at least another week.
Alabama wasn’t lucky (and looked very good at times), but I daresay the offenses faced by Auburn, ND, and UT were no worse than that travesty Va Tech put on the field last night. It was obvious Bama would win from the opening snap – the Hokies had absolutely zero offensive poise and Taylor has regressed as a college QB. When Alabama runs into a team that can pass the ball they will struggle, just like last year. Fortunately, the only team they face with any sort of offensive potency is Ole Miss…and they’re not exactly lighting it up against Memphis right now.
19 – Who is that playing QB for Ole Miss, and what have they done with Snead? (Or is Snead just the country’s slowest starter? I somehow doubt the Rebels can survive him taking five or six games to get in the groove… again.)
It’s early days still, but Bama fans have to be feeling pretty good right now.
Two men were seen on the grassy knoll outside Sooner stadium when Bradford went down. One looked suspiciously like Mack Brown. Tebow should be careful!
@16 Well I was at the game and their failure to play anything resembling football resulted in them deserving a 72-0 asswhooping. Seriously, its hard to score 72 points when the end of your bench is playing most of the second half. It was a true travesty of a football game, for sure. That, and as 17 said, they are commies.
If I were the fine and honorable gentleman running the University of Virginia athletics program, then I would dispatch an alumnus’ plane for Lubbock. Leave a blank contract with my name signed on it and let Mike Leach write the rest because the UVa football program is in that much trouble.
What? You thought I was going to include some played out pirate joke?
Since Paula Westerdog (http://georgiasports.blogspot.com/) is wearing her panties and has comments turned
off I’m forced to come here, the only other blog I read with regularity. Mark Richt needs to go. Georgia’s current football state is the worst thing for a fan. Back when we sucked it was great. I never expected us to win, so any victory was great, but losses were expected so they were no big deal. Now we lose games we should win. We should bring back Donnan or get a coach who can get the job done and take us all the way. Being stuck in the middle is torment, and I’m done with it.
UNI would beat jNU, not that a person should get excited about that.
WSR is right, Iowa starts each year like it’s an alumni game, and they’re afraid of hurting someone. We just let September drift by in an alcoholic haze and check around October 1 to see if there’s a real team or not.
My comments come from where I work. I am a somewhat level headed Alabama fan, I try not to gloat unless gloated upon from another co-worker. We have had our fair share of spirited discussions. There is an insufferable Auburn fan, a whacked out LSU fan, and an elitist Tenn. fan, and ever since the “Blackout”, a meeker than usual Georgia fan, who , after Sturdivant went down, I felt as if there should be some orderlies following him, taking his belts, shoelaces and any other way he may try to end it. My point I try to make to the 3 of them is that I want them all to be ranked good enough to be ranked, really good SEC style teams of old and not some punchline when we play, so that they can’t use the “we werent very good” excuse like last year. I think LSU is about the same, Auburn seems to have found a running back, and Tenn is better on D with Monte Kiffin and Coach O coaching them up, and its telling that Crompton has some confidence, so it should be pretty fun to watch. Florida comes up in a few weeks and Tenn. will find out how far they have come so far if they hang close, or how far they have to go if they dont. Auburn will get tested by WfVU in a few weeks with Noel Devine, and we will see how much depth Auburn has throughout the year since they dont get a bye week til freakin November.
God, I’d love to see Cap’n Leach at UVa, but he’s not their kinda coach. But, I’d be willing to bet he’d reinstate the old Pep Band and run off the crappy new one Groh wanted and got.
Just think what the score would be if they played SoCal this year. You’d need a third digit on the scoreboard.
Yep, ND played a “cupcake”…one that many, including the fine purveyor of this site, predicted would beat ND. Take your ND blinders off: if you belive Team A will lose to Team B, then Team A beats Team B by 35, you can’t simply write it off as “oh, yeah, Team B sucks, so of course…” And anyone commenting here about ND beating a “cupcake” most assuredly was proclaiming they’d get pistol-whipped.
Nobody rational (Hi Lou!) is predicting ND in the national title game; we may very well lose to an improved Michigan team. But please, don’t dignify Mark May by using his tired lines, mmmkay?
@40, your logic isn’t so sound. Based on their performance against OK State I believe UGA could very well lose to TN Tech. If UGA surprises me and beats TN Tech 35-0, that still doesn’t make TN Tech any less of a cupcake.
Well, sleepless @ #33, you’re in luck: Paul turned the comments back on. So now not a single Georgia Sports Blog reader need spend another minute unaware of your brilliant arguments about how life would be so much better if only we had Donnan back.
@33: You are why he turns them off. Seriously. Listen to yourself.
Derek Dooley to UVa?
Notre Dame might not be world beaters, but it looks like they’re going to be good enough for their schedule and get to the BCS.
So, week one is almost in the books and we’ve darn near got the two at-larges for the BCS filled: Boise State and Notre Dame. We can only hope they play each other.
I know one team that won’t be in it: Georgia. *sigh* Could we be the new Wisconsin? *le sob* *arp?*
First, my comments directed at Mr. Westerdawg in post 33 were out of line. However, I stand by the rest of what I said.
In Mark Richt’s eight seasons at UGA the team has an average conference record of 5.75 – 2.25. In his five seasons at UGA teams under Jim Donnan had an average conference record of 5 -3. The two coaches records are overall are an average of 10.25 -2.75, and 8 – 3.8, respectively. On average UGA wins just one more, and loses just one less conference game under coach Richt. While Richt’s teams average two more wins overall per season, they also average only one less loss. Let’s not forget that Richt has also benefited from the expansion to a twleve game regular season starting in 2006. My conclusion is that Richt’s teams are only marginally better than Donnan’s teams.
Nate @40: Yeah ND beat Nevada and that is certainly better than losing to Nevada. But it is still Nevada.
I know it has been a very long time since Notre Dame actually beat a good team, but a victory over a team from the middle of the WAC isn’t really something to hang your hat on.
Sleepless, your argument brings to mind two well-worn quotes: the one about “lies, damned lies, and statistics” and the one about making the perfect the enemy of the good.
Richt’s winning percentage at Georgia is 0.781, more than a hundred points higher than Donnan’s. Richt has winning records against Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Auburn, which Donnan did not. Richt has gone to three SEC title games and three BCS bowls; Donnan, 0 and 0. And while the expansion to a 12-game schedule certainly has had some kind of effect on Richt’s record, it’s not like we’ve been padding that exclusively with gimme games. Consider, too, that the SEC is an even tougher place to play than it was 10 years ago.
I realize the Oklahoma State loss was a huge disappointment, but you really have to be reaching for reasons to be depressed if you’re trying to make the case that Richt isn’t a huge advance over his predecessor.
Orson Swindle and Stranko Montana are two men pushing thirty who should know better than to run a college football blog, but evidently don't. Both graduated from the University of Florida, and both agree that college football is far too important to be left to the professionals.
