Do you think Stoops and Saban met this summer to broker MidEast peace? Hell no, Saban doesn’t have time for that shit…the spread is done.

Julio is nice, but I was really hoping to see the Sex Cannon represented here. Does this mean we’ll be graced with DW tomorrow? Or short of that, perhaps Jesse Palmer and his two sizes too small tie?

and thanks Orson for granting one lonely blog lurkers wisj of seeing Julio on here…I know it hurt to not put up a Rex Grossman pic

Thank God Julio will have McElroy throwing the ball on target, in stride, and he wont have to routinely jump that high 2 yrds off the line of scrimmage, or worry about being hit on the hip behind him when he has to stop and reel in the ball when he has his man beat by 5 steps, or jumping up to try to retrieve a pass headed for the press box on an out route.

A saint in short, true to his name, flying up here at the right hand of God. The good Saint-Ex! And he was not the only one. He was merely the one who put it into words most beautifully and anointed himself before the altar of the right stuff.

With the title on the line, Barry Krauss stuffs Matt Guman six inches short of the goal.
Van Tiffin slays Aubie with one swing of his right leg, a perfectly centered 52-yarder.
George Teague strips Lamar Thomas of a touchdown, world class speed banished to the bench, head down under a towel.
Young Julio Jones carries four, no five, no SIX Bengal Tigers on his back, stretching a six yard out into an 18 yard first down masterpiece.
The greatest efforts I have seen by men in crimson during six decades of spectating.

Another thing people don’t realize, is that Terrence Cody can actually jump that high if he needs to, but due to pleas from the Geological Society of Tuscaloosa County, he doesnt.

That’s not exactly true.

Terrell/Pelican-
He’s fracturing the Tuscaloosa Trend Formation south of Moundville, which has lots of dyke swarms.
Crap, I stand corrected. My bad.
On an educated review, he’s actually creating a fissure along the Eno River Fault in the Triassic Basin Continuum just north of the NC 147 Expressway in Durham County, NC. My mistake. Sorry. There are no dyke swarms in Hale County, AL.

No one particularly cares if AJ Green is impressed: nice speed, but a flyweight compared to the most freakishly
gifted 19 year old on the planet. Remember, everything from the Georgia game on Julio did with a busted shoulder,
a busted wrist, and a hernia. Try to drag a grocery sack around with a hernia, much less 1200 pounds of Bengals.

Good receiver, just a shame he’s not as good as Floyd or Tate up in South Bend. Both of those guys will have markedly better years this season than Jones.

Julio Jones — on the receiving end of an undrafted free agent

Not a Tide fan but….Julio had JPW throwing the rock. AJ had the #1 QB in the NFL draft pitchin it to him. When factoring in a degree of difficulty (like diving), the stats skew to Julio.

AJ Green – a #1 draft pick and true junior behind a makeshift OL
Julio Jones – a fifth year senior and NFL player behind one of the best OLs in SEC history
Look, I’m not hating on Julio. He’s a fantastic talent. I just wonder why he gets all the hype at the expense of AJ. That’s all.

Nice choice of college there Julio. Maybe you should have gone somewhere that actually, I don’t know, THROWS THE BALL???
Your loss, I guess.

I just hope the NCAA doesn’t ruin September 5th by ruling Julio and Ingram ineligible. We’ll need both to do some damage to VT’s defense.
by The Snake will Drive Again! on Aug 27, 2009 8:55 AM EDT reply actions
When you figure in that Alabama didn’t have another viable receiver besides Julio last year, whereas UGA did, then Julio easily gets the nod.
by khodges on Aug 27, 2009 9:18 AM EDT reply actions
@24
Julio and Ingram sitting is a lock. The NCAA loves to get their ass in the middle of everything and what bigger venue than the first big game of the season. It would be a ratings boost in that it adds a “storyline”, plus the story is everywhere now and their collective ego will not permit them to preceive that they are being perceived as turning a blind eye. Ultimately all they have to do is say that they are interested in taking a look at the findings of UA and both are ineligible since they would be involved in an ongoing investigation. Also, it gives a viable reason to divert resources away from anything in Southern California (wouldn’t want to hurt that West Coast viewership now would we!)

Hating on or flinging jealous rants JJ’s way is like dissing Shakespeare, the Grand Canyon or old Motown.
P.S.: I like it when the domers exhibit their full fall delusion plumage early.

It’s a little early to get in the sauce, isn’t it? Nobody outside of Athens and Auburn truly thinks AJ > Julio. Those who claim otherwise are lying to themselves.

Yes, I’m getting the crazy train rolling now “Counter Trap”. It’s perfect. If ND can’t get out of their own way again – I’m just a delusional homer. If they end up doing really well, I’m a visionary! Me, Lou and Beano… wait a minute, does that make me a certifiable lunatic too?!

Julio had to learn to jump that high last year if he wanted to get near the ball. This year it’ll just be gravy.
by Bob Loblaw on Aug 27, 2009 11:54 AM EDT reply actions
The Over/Under on this thread starts at 50. Domers vs SEC-bring it!
Golden Taint is a good receiver, and a good football player. I would take Clausen over JPW. and to top that, I would take Stafford over both. I think JJ production goes up this yr, and I think AJ’s may stay the same since the talent drop off is there. We go from an “ok” QB to a real pocket passer with a cannon, and Georgia, well, Cox isnt a first rounder.
The real diff between AJ and JJ, is STRENGTH and YAC, and YAC with 4 or 5 defenders hanging on for 5 yrds. I dont see too many highlights of AJ dragging full grown men down the field. Tackling Julio one on one is like tackling a horse, your gonna have to hang on til you get help. VT will find out next week. AJ is basically 6’4 155lbs and frail.
by Mr.Pelican Pants on Aug 27, 2009 12:13 PM EDT reply actions
Whoa whoa whoa, what I’m guessing are two SEC fans taking a “Clausen” over anyone!!!???
This is extraordinary – after all the Rick and Casey bashing, then the whole doing the press conference from the College Football Hall of Fame before he ever throws a pass in College.. Please someone put the universe back on it’s axis with some vitriol directed at either Charlie’s waistline or smug, arrogant ND fans before the apocalypse arrives.
Stacy Keibler if you are out there – rescue us!!!
by Atlantadomer on Aug 27, 2009 12:21 PM EDT reply actions
Domer,
It is the true measure of Julio’s greatness that he was able to accomplish everything last year with JPW staring him down from huddle to completion. And Pelican says it best—tackling JJ one-on-one is probably the least pleasurable experience in the college game except for certain anatomical positionings of Terrance Cody on ball carriers.
by Counter Trap on Aug 27, 2009 12:33 PM EDT reply actions
Ever notice how AJ’s supporters usually go out of their way to acknowledge Julio’s amazing talent as well, but Julio’s supporters usually dis AJ? Haters. Fortunately, Julio seems a little more self-possessed in interviews.
By the way, check out AJ’s current weight on the Dawgs depth chart.
by Will Q on Aug 27, 2009 1:25 PM EDT reply actions
I also find it amazing that the only time anyone calls Stafford a good quarterback is when they are doing it in reference to AJ/Julio comparisons. Apparently when he threw the ball to AJ he was #1 draft pick worthy, but every other time he threw the ball he was throwing from his back foot behind a patchwork O-line with the memory of his girlfriend’s fake boobs clouding his judgment.
by Will Q on Aug 27, 2009 1:28 PM EDT reply actions
Auburn fan here. Julio is far more impressive. Julio at UGA would have made for more statistical records than he will get at Bama.

When you are on the winning side of an argument, you don’t have to acknowledge shit.
by Tater Salad on Aug 27, 2009 2:38 PM EDT reply actions
Tsk, tsk, tsk. AJ Green is gonna be a great one, its just Julio is a more physical receiver of the two, kinda like TO or Fitzgerald. Until you see AJ doing the things Julio does after the catch, the argument will go on til both AJ and JJ go pro after their Junior yr. I think its great we have 2 of the premier WR’s in the country in the same conf who are soon to be 1st rounders. It will open up the offense for both a little, since they will both draw double coverage and hopefully both Bama and Georgia can get a worthy 2nd receiver to benefit. I know our TE will benefit this yr., and I think our 2nd guy will be burner Marquis Maze.
And Will, its almost kickoff time, and we can sit back and watch it all this year and hope none of em gets hurt. I usually dont buy jerseys, but by God, I bought me a #8 jersey. He will be Bama’s only legit Heisman hopeful in this millenium.
by Mr. Pelican Pants on Aug 27, 2009 3:17 PM EDT reply actions
AJ is great receiver: fast, fluid, great hands, and height. He’s the dream receiver for 7 on 7 tournaments.
Julio is a different breed. I’ve never seen a receiver as physical and just plain strong as him. People miss his great hands and route running because of the way he punishes the defenders trying to tackle him.
I know we’ll never see it but Julio, Mark Ingram, and Trent Richardson running the Wildcat package, a la 07 Arkansas, would give defenses screaming nightmares. BTW, Julio can throw the ball a long way.
by Nate on Aug 27, 2009 5:16 PM EDT reply actions
Might I suggest you look up an AJ Green highlight video on YOUtube? He picked up plenty of YAC the old-fashioned way. He avoided the tackle to begin with. Also, I would point out that he is often catching a ball with more than one defender in the vicinity. I believe that is called being double- teamed. Finally, how good does a receiver have to be to become the bigger threat than a senior who will be a second-round draft pick.
Julio Jones is a great receiver in his own right, but when it really came down to it last year, AJ Green scored TDs when he had to.

Personally, I would have picked Percy Harvin in his #8 jersey he wore his freshman year and saved #1 for Reggie F’N Nelson.
