GLORY

Glory. It is fleeting. It dies almost as soon as it is born, and a moment’s thought can make it evaporate into the cold vapor of the existence. Thus, strike all thought: there are fireworks, and the air, and the irresistible urge to loll in the moment though you know there are flights to catch, work to do, and calls to make.

Forget them all. This is glory. Grab it while you may.

Congrats to Orson and all the Gators fans — they seem to come frequently for y’all, but life contains few moments of true intrinsic value. Though it be in “mere” sports (despite the sphere’s occasional or constant arbitrariness, absurdity, and detachment), it doubtlessly merits this enjoyment nonetheless.

I bow in your general direction, Swindle. A couple end of season thoughts, if I may… fireworks, ironically, encapsulate OU in this game tonight and the whole season. And tangentially, the entire Big 12, where I live. Lots of flash/speed/precision factor and yet, somehow unfulfilling. Beautiful and complex but shallow.

I usually scoff a lot at the whole notion of “this team was led by X” or “player Y willed that team to win”. But…Tim Tebow is a motherfucker. Fucking Patton. He may never amount to shite in the NFL, but he comports himself like a damn good person and a (gulp) brilliant field general in an era where that term is flung around like $10 poker chips in Vegas and the lead story is usually something in the Pac man Jones milieu.

I have spent many hours on this site again this season blowing snot bubbles and spit-taking Dr. Pepper over Swindle’s narrative, comments by Mr. Pelican Pants, Burrito Bros, Holly, etc ad nauseum. You people are sick and beautiful. And I hope my alma-mater kicks your ass in Pasadena next January, you twat waffles.

Horns echoed, cacophonous and spirited, on Archer, on Gale Lemerand, in parking lots; revelers lined the streets, chomping and cheering and floating on sidewalks on air and on joy; waves of orange and blue jammed University Avenue, swarming and pulsing in lines and circles, duos and quintets and groups of people made brothers and sisters for one night.

I saw men and women riding on the hands and shoulders of their fellows, pressed close to sweaty male backs and hugged cold female friends, took pictures and video of firecrackers and lines of waiting high-fives and toilet paper over stoplights.

I saw it all, drank it all in. The smells are on me, the sounds are with me. The feel of it is something I’ll never forget.

Thank you and congratulations to my, your, our Gators. Thank you to Orson for making the journey a little bit more sublime.

new AP poll has texas tech ranked 2 spots ahead of ol miss. that makes sense, because ol miss straight up man handled t-tech and won by three scores, so clearly they should be ranked lower than them.

it also has 48 1st place votes for Florida, 16 for utah, and 1 for usc. not as retarded as above, still not very smart. i wonder who the lone ahole is.

I mean, that would be the logical thing since the exact same things are said about the Big 10 and Ohio State. But no, OU will probably be a pre-season Top 5 pick, waltz through the Big 12 (aka No Defense League) and end up in the BCS again ready for another flop in prime time. No double standard here. None at all.

Congrats to the Gators, by the way. I don’t know if you could stay within 10 points of USC, but great season nonetheless…
