While their time in the sun was mercifully short for everyone else in the SEC–a one year run of real terror followed by a baffling final season together in 2008–know that between keg-lifting, bringing the Soulja Boy to white Georgia fans everywhere, and dancing on kitchen counters, Morenofford made their impact not just on the football field, but off the field, as well.

Matthew Stafford could very well be the first pick of the Lions, as he is both the prototypical NFL quarterback and a quarterback, something Detroit can now select now that Matt Millen spends his time working on television and batting at balls of string in his spare time. We therefore suggest you send out every available prayer for the soul of Matthew Stafford. Besides the whole rich and well-humped thing a signing bonus brings, it’s going to suck immensely being him in Detroit.
On the other hand OH THANK YOU BABY JESUS for not coming back. They would have been hellacious uncontainability twinned with another year under their belt and a proper and healthy left tackle in place.

i had hoped they would decide to do the same thing…i just hoped they would decide in the opposite direction. i think moreno made the right decision, i think stafford should’ve stayed. however, if matt leinart had left after three years…i’m sure people would’ve said he should’ve stayed too. instead, he just passed up millions. can’t really blame either of them. they certainly were fun to watch. and orson, i think your “oh thank you baby jesus” sentiments are being echoed by just about every head coach of any other team in the SEC…and dennis erickson and mike gundy. except gundy is probably thanking grown jesus, because, well…you all know why…

Class post. We’ve love them at UGA, but we certainly missed some opportunities with them. Here’s guessing you never see Richt redshirt someone that can contribute right away again. To only get two years out of Knowshon is a shame.

while another year with a healthy Moreno and a better line would certainly give opponents pause, the fear of the Stafford returning amounted to meh. Brilliant at times, triple-coverage and inteceptions at others. Seems like a good kid, though.

It’s not good news, but its not the end of the world. Stafford was good enough to make ridiculous plays, but that rarely wins Championships. Moreno was a special talent, but I still think we got less production out of him than we should have.
It’s all about O-Line. It’s always the line. If our O-Line is as good as it looks like it will be, we’ll be in good shape.

#8. I stand behind the comment – he was briiliantly spotty. AJ Green causes me heartburn. Moreno is once a decade; Stafford relies on his unbelievable arm to often throw into double/triple coverage when he should check down or throw it away. O-line would certainly help, and I’m not saying he’s not a great QB, but based on track record and his progress from freshman year, you can’t guaranty the brilliant “next step” to Peyton Manning status, so, meh. I would’ve liked to see him play in college another year, cause I do like me some gunslingers.

I admit that I will miss Moreno – if nothing else because of the sheer terror I felt when he was handed the ball. It was the SEC version of a Freddy Kruger movie (for non-UGA fans). You knew he was coming. You were scared to death. You knew that there was a real possibility that he was going to kill you. And you couldn’t stop watching.
I hope he continues with the same success in the NFL.

Posts like these are why I check this blog everyday. Although I’ve been reading about “Morenofford” (nice touch) leaving for the past few days, this has been the most entertaining article I’ve seen in a while. Your knocks toward the memories they have given Georgia fans are on point, and we all figured the way you described the Detroit Lions as a reason Stafford might hang around. Ah, we are so naive. I never took the step back to realize what it would be like for an opposing fan to watch Moreno run against their defense, but I will certainly miss the excitement he brought.
