BOWL PREVIEW PREVIEWS: HAWAII BOWL
IN A WORLD OF SUN AND FUN…ALL CHARLIE WANTED WAS TO GET AWAY.

“A little sun in the folds. That’s all I need. Away from the sleet and the mail bombs and Clausen’s INT-to-TD ratio, on my way to a place where they deep fry whole fucking pigs for my pleasure. That’s the ticket.”
But sometimes life…has another itinerary.

JIMMY: What are you doing here?
CHARLIE: Came here to murder you! [uncomfortably hysterical laughter]
When life gives you lemons, just say ‘Fuck the lemons,’ and bail. The Hawaii Bowl. Opens Christmas Eve, 8:00 PM on ESPNs everywhere.

Before ND extends its own record for bowl futility, let’s all pause to remember the previous record holder. I attended the 1995 Carjack bowl at which MVP Tanneyhill achieved a milestone win over WVU for the 0-8 (yes, 8 bowls in about 100 seasons) Gamecocks.

Harris – What do you think about the names on the back of the jerseys?
You should be happy, sir, after suffering through the indignities of this season. I have a hunch, however, that this could be short-lived, as Dallas may sneak out of Lincoln Financial with a win on Sunday.
As far as the flavouring of your ass, that sounds like intel that would need to be gathered by an independent Third-Party, such as a stripper, ’cause I ain’t going there.

ND looked pretty convincing in their win. Yes, it was Hawaii (without some of the players that helped put them in the Sugar Bowl), but still, they seemed to make it look easy.

Harris says:
The names were a bit of an issue on the game thread at Blue-Gray Sky, but if it means for 28-point ass whippings (and it wasn’t really that close) nobody will complain if they take the field looking like the #44 car at Talledega.
I think it’s important to remember that ND starts one (maybe two) seniors and none on offense. That’s no excuse for losing to Syracuse, but it does explain their inability to close out teams and their struggles on the road. Most of the principals, including Clausen and Tate, will return as three-year starters so I’m hoping what we saw was the first stirrings of a fire-breathing, man-mauling monster and not proof that Hawaii is just really shitty.

You heard it here first… Next year’s Heisman goes to Jimmy Clausen.
He could have gone 0-20 with 8 INTs in the second half…
Weis could be eaten by a shark, a really big shark…
And Notre Dame could have David Duke conduct a nationwide search for its next coach…
Who could lose every game…
And Tebow could set every offensive record in the NCAA record book, cure cancer, and win American Idol, Dancing With the Stars, and Man vs. Wild…
And Jimmy Clausen will still win the Heisman

The names on the back revived a tradition from the Parseghian days when ND would have names on the back for the bowl game and not the regular season because the players got to keep the Bowl jerseys.
I think it was a great idea and another way that Weis is embracing the tradition at ND unlike the last two coaches we had

GTfidge, Not Doug, but let me give it a try. Let me take you back, back to the summer of 2008, life was easy, the economy was rolling, the housing market was strong, fuck that shit in Cali, south Florida and Nevada, not gonna effect me!, young boys dreamed of a Lindsey Lohan out of rehab, presidential primaries were winding down, four more Clinton years? or Mitt Romney!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5GtBrIENu4 Larry was set to announce a season with his best team yet (I must admit you can count me among the enemy fans who love Munson), kegs were being tossed at Talladega, the DAWGs were #1, never you mind the police blotter, damn right # 1!!! There is the question of the ball busting schedule, but fuck that! Let’s get this party started!
Dropped a spot after a W.
Dropped a spot after a W.
Hurdle! No coverage?!?! WTF?
SOS disintegrated, faced three teams with a pulse = three losses, two ugly. Preseason # 1 outside of the BCS lookin in. But they did beat the fuck out of the Rainbows in the Sugar Bowl!
And so it begins, not that ND would ever be overrated.

On another note, it’s always fun to watch Hawaii get bitch-slapped in their own house. They get like 10 home games a year, their players will hit you five seconds after the whistle and fight at the drop of a hat, and the crowd throws stuff at the players and fans of the other team. Really it’s like playing a team of convicts in a prison yard.

Edsall is God says:
37 – So they join a list that includes 3 other top 15 teams (SEC, WAC & Big East champions) and another team in Oregon State that was one game away from winning the Pac-10? If anything, you just proved Hawaii had a pretty tough schedule and may be better than their record indicates.
I think ND losing to Syracuse and going to the Hawaii Bowl is a blessing in disguise. Now their young players have potential, instead of being disappointments and their rosters is all underclassmen. If they had beaten Syracuse, they would have been 7-5, gone to a bowl they didn’t deserve (Gator or Cotton) and gotten destroyed by say Florida State or Texas Tech.
Most importantly, the bowl thing is done and it gives Mark May one less thing to bring up EVERY week during his ND bashing. ND is now a preseason top 25 team with a cakewalk of a schedule.
It’s like the Brady Quinn team, if anyone can remember how bad they were in 2004. They’re going 10-2 or 9-3 next year, get an invite to the Sugar Bowl and likely get mauled by an SEC team again. It’s the circle of Weis.
