...there's your first "source close to the situation" saying Leach is close to finalizing a deal to come to Auburn.

Gerry, really? Muschamp, Nutt, Strong would scare me at Auburn. Leach? Not so much. I’m usually completely wrong on such things. For example, I thought the Mike Price hire was a match made in heaven.

No. I want Turner Gill, and I am prepared to hold my cyber-breath until I get him.
Of course, paying dubloons for a stadium dog would be kinda cool. Anyone have the exchange rate?

snake will drive,
i’m of the belief that muschamp’s hype is blown out of proportion. at the very best he’s an unknown commodity. i feel houston nutt at auburn is pretty much the same as houston nutt at ole miss…so whatever. as for strong…see muschamp.
however, for me to say i’m right about these things any more than a flip of the coin would be…well bullshit.

#3, Native Son: Pete Carroll sends his sloppy seconds (Lane Kiffin) to the SEC. He is happy being the King of LA, which is bigger than all of the SEC states combined, I think.

The Chair, The Chair!!!! Dept.
OJ’s lawyer has been calling OJ “stupid” about 20 times.
OJ is now crying in front of the judge, pleading for mercy. I wonder if he showed any sort of mercy to his ex-wife and friend when he was trying to cut their heads off.
The Chair!!!! But, first, he deserves a good b-slap.

Nutt coaching at three schools in the same division in three consecutive seasons? And Darth Saban on his second of the remaining three? Even the cast of Gossip Girl thinks that’s kind of like . . . y’know . . . promiscuous.

My favorite Leach story is a player thinking that Mike Leach, the head coach, was the equipment manager….
Well since the Spread Eagle™ got shot down, what the hell are we gonna call this latest experiment? "His biggest problem? Finding a SMART QB that can actually read a defense and throw the ball over 20 yrds without getting picked off, and if he can throw to a GOOD Receiver and to RB’s that actually can CATCH and not FUMBLE once he has it, as of right now, Tubbs has left Auburn out of the recruiting game the past 2 yrs and Saban has mopped up….I hope the new Iron Bowl will have some sort of “Pirates of the Carribean” feel to it….and Alabama is the British Armada……
Enuff with these distractions Swindle, I have to focus on my using my new found psychic abilities on hexing Florida…….(waving hands in a hexing- like manner)
Oh yeh heres this, a Pirate Ship Generator to give ideas what to call this new offense:

What Auburn needs is a coach that believes in ball control – a strong running game, stout defense, and top-notch kickers.
We’ll wait patiently for that to happen.

The word you’re looking for there is not promiscuous — it’s either inbred or incestuous, depending on the level of scorn.
Don’t forget that Tuberville went from Ole Miss to Auburn, so it’s not like this all hasn’t happened before.

As a Georgia fan, Leach worries me a great deal, but maybe his presence at an annual rival will prompt Richt to finally start cracking the whip and getting our shittastic defense back into shape.

Re: #27 – Pirate Ship Generator
I just checked the Pirate Ship Name Generator above and found a couple of good names for new AU offenses right off the bat:
First up was
“The Disgraceful Mermaid” – I find this appropriate for what Bama recently did and will continue to do to Auburn’s “O” in the coming years, and second name returned was
“The Sadness of the Wolf” – I consider anything with the word “Sadness” to be highly appropriate for the AU offense, currently and in the next few years.
by Andy on Dec 5, 2008 12:54 PM EST reply actions
First, Leach doesn’t scare me. In fact, I’d be thrilled. Having Leach in the SEC has ENTERTAINMENT!!!!! written all over it.
And if Shula can stop that offense, certainly Saban can.
As for Nutt, I’d be shocked to see him leave OM after one year, when they were so nice as to offer him a job when the hogs got tired of his txting.
by PeterPumpkinhead on Dec 5, 2008 1:00 PM EST reply actions
Oh, yeah – re Leach’s type of offense. I wonder whatever Leach runs will work as well against SEC Ds as TT against Bama in the Cotton Bowl in 2005. TT came in after a season of scoring a zillion points a game and a mediocre Bama team (good D though) beat them 13-10. Maybe it’ll work as well as Hawaii did against UGA last year in that butt-raping called the Sugar Bowl…

maybe i’m stupid. maybe i play too many video games. or maybe i just always loved watching Spurrier’s old Florida teams hang 50 on everyone that wasn’t Auburn, but i’m really starting to warm up to the idea of Mike Leach, head coach of the Auburn Tigers. if only because it would piss off all the stuck in the past redneck fans and would give me and my dad new things to get angry about. i still want Butch Davis more than anything…but the longer the Leach question lingers, the more and more i want the answer to be YES.

by pick6bamr on Dec 5, 2008 1:51 PM EST reply actions
Pick6,
There isnt a lot of hate between these teams, just alot of Fear….of the known and unknown, on both sides….their worst fear would be not being able to execute those long plays and capitalize off of easy turnovers, ours would be giving them easy turnovers and points and having to depend on JPW to make plays…that is THE nightmare scenario….
We know what they have and respect it, they know our defense is coached by a maniac who doesnt tolerate mistakes in coverage and being outta position, their offense is based on getting people out of position
….therein lies the riddle……who blinks first
This IS the biggest stage of JPW career…..will he be able to tapdance long enough on it and get lucky, or will he get booed off the stage, or hell, get yanked off of it like Amateur night at the Apollo?
by Mr.Pelican Pants on Dec 5, 2008 1:59 PM EST reply actions
Isn’t the SEC scared of offense in general? I thought they only allowed 1 coach to be offensive minded-and he tends to reside at Florida. Maybe the SEC is willing to face their fears of modern offenses.
