S.S. LEACH BRIEFLY DOCKS AT WASHINGTON, SAILS ON
Leach and Pat Hill are both out of consideration for the Washington job. It is still a pirate’s life for Leach, who is theoretically still in line for the Auburn job or a hefty pay raise at his own job.
Buckethead proves that being frightening and talented are not mutually exclusive, but indeed necessarily inclusive. Much like Leach, now that we think of it.

Washington isn’t so much of a coaching job as a natural disaster. As talented as Leach may be, only the combination of Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt could save that program. Both Leach and Hill should stay where they are, until an actual better job comes about-like ND for instance! (Ok, maybe that’s not better either.)

Before I head home…
How is UDub not a good job? It looks like it could be as good as any non-Southern Cal Pac10 job to me. Certainly better than Wazzu or Stanford. Most certainly it’s not Mississippi State. MSU is a graveyard in need of an early retiree a la Rich Brooks. Any young up and comer who even looks at it isn’t an up and comer if she takes it. And, really, isn’t it about time someone started bitching about the lack of women in college football coaching???
That Buckethead shit… that’s f’d up.

UDub is a much, much better job than Miss State, no doubt. But, the Washington job is pretty challenging, since they can no longer raid SoCal for talent (USC, Ucla, the other California schools, the Arizona schools, Oregon and a handful of national programs pick the place clean these days) and their facilities are subpar, the view from Husky Stadium notwithstanding.
A high-profile hire would go a long way toward the facilities issues, in that fundraising juices would get flowing. But they are so untalented on both sides of the ball that the new guy is looking at 3-4 years to even compete in the conference.

Crabapple Buck says:
If CFB were baseball, I could envision ND trading Pear Bryant to Washington for a bag of balls and some athletic tape. It is really the right thing to do. Sentence the arrogant bastard to follow Ty Willingham after he screws up every program he comes in contact. The hilarity would continue at Washington and ND.

I still don’t understand why a head coach would leave a big conference school where they are winning 9-10 games/year to go to Washington, hoping that you can squeeze juice out of a turnip.
I think that Peterson and Hill are perfect for the job. Both are great head coaches, but at smaller conference schools where they are somewhat limited under the current system. Both are familiar with the general area and would probably bring great recruits along with them.
I’d also love to see either of these guys become an annual thorn in the side of USC.

ICP – Buckethead is crazy in a Mike Leach kind of way. The “bucket on his head” thing is his schtick…it’s an act, akin to Alice Cooper. Off stage (and especially in a studio) he’s a different person. Still crazy as a shithouse rat, but he can shred a guitar with the best of them. Not everything he does is a masterpiece, but a good majority of it is worth listening to at least once, at least to see what he’s gonna do next.
And I caught your geezer reference…been there, and *ahem* have the flashbacks to prove it. Man I miss those days…and I’m only 31…

I nominate Arizona DC Mark Stoops. We can keep bringing up the Bob Stoops coaching tree and besides, Mark will need a job after his brother gets canned for losing to ASU for a fourth straight year. At home. When favored. In Zona’s best season in a decade, natch.

However, it was one of the better costumes I saw this year on Halloween in Boston for the Mule.
