As the old proverb goes, "A change in rulers is the joy of fools."

Averaging ten wins a season is nothing to sniff at. How anyone can be confident that the team would fare better than that with a new coach is beyond me. Especially when no one really knows whether your new hire would be the next Saban or the next Willingham.

Heck, it's hard enough sometimes to figure out how to gauge the guy who's *already* in charge of your team. Not long ago, you were so desperate to keep him you threw a huge buyout his way; now you're desperate enough to consider paying it. Did TT (so far as I know, he doesn't have a given name beginning with the letter "C") change that much between then and now? Or, perhaps, were you not seeing him clearly on either occasion?

Oh, and how well equipped are any of us, really, to evaluate the job that a head coach is doing? It's not like he's the one on the field making the plays...or, in many cases, even calling the plays.

I had had hopes that coach-olatry was due to fade, but the roaring success so far of the Saban hire has nixed that return to sanity. We're right back to crediting or blaming everything on the head coach, seeing him as having the power to win national championships or utterly ruin a football program, all by his lonesome.

It's as naive as placing the entire credit or blame for the economy on the White House, as if there were a master control panel resembling a 747 right off the Oval Office.

No wonder monarchy seemed the natural and inevitable human condition for so many centuries.

Dr. Ed @ 27 --

It's been the new D-coordinators, and there every other year. Borges was the O-coord for 4 seasons. Petrino left after 1, but because he got the Looeyville gig, not because he got sh!tcanned.

I am not in the fire Tubs camp. However, this isn't about one bad season. 2005 through 2007, while solid (average 10 wins), showed a decline -- especially on O -- that culminated in this year's disaster. This is what has left many folks uneasy and uncertain about his ability to get it back on track. There is certainly a fair amount of Saban induced panic, too.

If CTT has the fire left to try to make things right, he has to recognize the splitting with some of his most loyal assistants has to be done for a turnaround to be accomplished. If, however, this is a power play for control (or a money grab), he may have drawn a line in the sand and dared the money folks to cross it.

A lot of us are just getting tired of the annual December drama.

If you were Tubs, wouldn't you just dare Auburn to fire you?

$6MM....sure, go ahead.

That is a lot of pulp wood Jimmy will have to sell. Sadly, Lowder's bank remains well capitalized.*

* - the phrase is "well capitalized" is the signal for you to withdraw all your deposits, FYI.

If Tupperware gets fired it's because he f**ked up. Too many hunting trips, not enough recruiting. AU couldn't hit themselves in the ass with both hands. The program has been sliding for several years. He's been sacrificing OC's at the end of every year, although Franklin didn't last that long. AU lacked the fundamentals that a good coach would teach them. It was always someone elses fault, let him take that road show somewhere else.

The problem this year was not with Tubs coaching, but with the spread offense. Our O-linemen had trouble chop blocking from a 2-point stance. Tubs will get this thing turned around and next year ACL's will snap biatches!
