@SKLM–Kiffin…I don’t know. It’s not a horrible idea like, say, Butch Davis, but he’s such an unknown quantity as a coach. Anyone making blanket statements about this being an excellent or terrible hire is out of their tree. The staff he’s putting together looks promising, though.

What I do know: Mike Hamilton fucks goats, for money. This is unassailable fact.

b) Your team (UGA) lost to its rival (GT), who previously lost to one of your referenced ‘half-ass ACC teams’ (VT) who will be on the field with your Bearcats.

If you support an SEC school not named Alabama or Florida, please refrain from badmouthing the ACC. The rest of you were owned this year.

#23 And yes, the Big 12 stinks. For everyone involved. OU and Texas are the two best teams in the conference and should go head-to-head for the title. (Sorry, Missouri.) The conference should trash the divisions and play as an 11 team conference. No preseason games, all conference opponents and every game counts.

I’ve refrained from commenting on the OU/Texas situation because part of me (not all of me) thinks that it should be Texas in the B12CG, but I’ve got to say something comparing the two teams.

Looking at the entire season, not just one game, OU and Texas are differentiated by a hairsbreadth. Margin of Victory. Out of Conference Strength of Schedule. In Conference Strength of Schedule. On-Field Statistics. Home and Away Comparisons. and yes, I’ll say it… head-to-head competition. Some factors favored OU, some favored Texas. The cummulative results of the entire season separated OU from Texas by the slimmest of margins. This time, the BCS rated OU above Texas by a very small margin.

It stinks, but those were the rules agreed upon by some Big XII Conference Rules Committee 12 years ago when the conference was formed. The current Big XII Commissioner was commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference. None of the current head coaches were head coaches in the Big XII in 1996.

The system stinks, but it abides by the set of rules put in place for the 2008 season.

The nepotism that’s being bandied around at Rocky Top is enough to make the House of Tutor blush. A regular coaches meeting could very well turn out to be a Family Reunion before too long.

Your statement regarding Ole Miss in the SEC Championship instead of Florida might hold water if a) UF and Ole Miss were in the same division of the SEC and b) both teams finished with the same conference record. As neither a nor b holds true, the comparison is not at all appropriate.
For my part, I was hoping TTech would fall to Baylor and prevent this B12 South clusterfuck scenario, but pinning one’s hopes to Baylor football is never a good plan. Maybe Texas can emulate UGA circa 2007 bowl season: Miss out on conference championship game, decimate overmatched bowl opponent, spend offseason bemoaning unjust system etc.

Hear hear, okiedomer. Everyone’s been ignoring the fact that it was a THREE way tie for the South. OU wins it based on point differential vs. the other two teams (+34, compared to +4 for UT and -38 for TT).

Just be glad we’re not in the SWC anymore, where the tie was broken by previous suckitude.

As for the OB, BC/Cincy will be the 2005 Rose Bowl compared to Louisville/Wake Forest.
