KIFFIN TO UT? THE INTERNET ENTRAILS SAY YESSIR.
Well, we're in it now. Fine upstanding internet web blog site Loser With Socks says Lane Kiffin be headed Knoxvll way, with announcements to come following Fulmer's final game against Kentucky this weekend.

peekaboo, boy wonder
[UPDATE: ZOMFG, this is not that farfetched.]

Anyone else hearing this will include the return of the Orgeron?

Bah. Old news. What I want to know is who do we get now that Urban to ND is a done deal?

Um, yes. That. What he said.

The Orgeron, either D-line coaching or coordinating in college again?
When CBS showed the Chargers-Saints game in London, talked about the Saints’ D and showed a shot of Coach O without identifying him, I screamed.
That man shouldn’t have to slave anonymously in service of Gary Gibbs.

Urban Meyer? Right now I’d settle for Charlie Strong, instead of Charlie Weis. Did I say “settle”. I mean jerk off. We’re so fucked. But not as fucked as the rest of the SEC if Kiffin gets coach “O” to come to Tennessee.

Seriously, someone PLEASE interview Charlie Strong. The man needs to be an HC.

That’s all we need, someone with some actual potential to replace the Great Pumpkin.
Saban, Meyer, Richt, Spurrier, Nutt. Doesn’t the SEC have enough of these guys.
Give me more Tubervilles and Crooms. We need a rest every now and then.

I won’t believe this until Mike Hamilton gets the overhead projector out of storage for the press conference.

Butch D is the only one I was worried about. I hope this report is true.

Go look at the Clemson “flavors of fail” post from the other day. I told you who Tennessee was hiring.
Losers With Socks has a Tennessee Rivals subscription like everyone else. $9 a month gets you everything you want to know.
I also told you that Tennessee could not take Butch from Carolina, and that was before the Heels laid massive eggs versus Maryland and State.

Also thought this blog would be interested to know that there are whispers that Coach O might be joining Kiffin in Knoxville.
by Rockytop85 on Nov 25, 2008 8:33 PM EST reply actions
It’s all right, everybody. Rest easy. Breathe regular. COOP IS ON THIS THING.
by Holly on Nov 25, 2008 8:41 PM EST reply actions
Ha, I really did not mean to be a jerk, it is just that, you know, it has been fairly widespread known for the last 48 hours or so.
Kelly’s buyout vs. Lane’s lack of a buyout was a big factor, also.
And, yes, the O as DC, and Kiffin’s brother in law, South Carolina’s recruiting coordinator and, I think, QB coach, David Reaves, is coming, too. That part I got from my USuCk “acquaintances.”
by Coop on Nov 25, 2008 8:53 PM EST reply actions
Yeah, everything I’ve been getting has been all KELLYKIFFINKELLYKIFFIN since about this time last week, but there was this weird Kelly push the last couple days that threw a lot of people, I think. And it’s still not a done deal, lest we forget, but the fact that he’s scouting potential assistants is encouraging. I was not sold on Kiffin, At All, but if it puts Coach O in freaking Knoxville, fuck it, at least we’ll have good television.
by Holly on Nov 25, 2008 8:57 PM EST reply actions
Well, on the other hand Kelly, y’know, already has assistants so he wouldn’t need to look for them. Of course, I’m flagrantly in the bag for Kelly so take that with as many grains of salt as you like.

Well…as has been said one would be hard pressed to hold Kiffin’s Raider tenure against him but then again we might question his judgement in accepting the job in the first place (although I guess it was hard to turn down increasing his salary by 80% or whatevs).
In any case, as Holly says, the advent of Coach O, if such there be, cannot fail to bring innumerable rewards.
by marcillacd on Nov 25, 2008 9:14 PM EST reply actions
He’ll get you the players you need, even without Orgeron. Based on what he did with the Raiders, he’ll get them to play hard (although not necessarily well). If the Humanitarian left ‘SC, I wouldn’t put LK in my top five wish list to replace him. I’m sure Norm Chow is already game planning for the ’09 contest with his protege and “friend”, Lane Kiffin.
Roll of the dice choice.

Orson et. al.
Someone should post the video of the back judge and Ball State Defensive Back exchanging fist pounds.
It’s around the 7:30 mark of the 3rd Qtr of the game…
The MAC is fixed..
BEEES!!!

I wish someone would hire Coach O, even as a “guest coach” of the week. Make it so, call Uncle Verne, tell him to pull some strings. I wonder how long it will take Coach O to put a fence around Tenn? Also, I pray that he challenges the players at Tenn, just like he did in his first meeting at Ole Miss, allegedly, shirtless, throwing coolers while doing “bull in the ring” without a helmet against Eric Berry and the rest of the UT defense.

The next Head Coach of Tennessee, Lovie Smith, is amused at all this bullsh!t and happy to be left alone while time quietly ticks by…. The real annoucement will come in January, once the Bears are officially out of the playoffs.
by Mich-Placed Gator on Nov 25, 2008 10:53 PM EST reply actions
Wasn’t Kiffin only half a coordinator at SC? Anyways, being the good guy that I am, I now root for all new coaching hires to fail. Screw everybody else.

For some reason I can’t stop laughing at the “kiffykins” tag.
I think this is because this is how he will be regarded amongst the SEC coaching fraternity until he puts up some wins.

Very good news for Cincinnati. Not so much for Tennessee I think.

Another coach comes off Clemson’s list, and Gary Patterson comes into it.

Kiffykins. How cute. I have to admit I know nothing of Kiffin except he had to work for a dbag in Oakland so he therefore gets my sympathy.
A quick Internets search states he was only a backup QB at Fresno State and then quit his senior year to be an assistant coach. Sounds a lot like Mark Richt, without the quitting part.

Gawd, we’d all love that. Unfortunately, it will be Oxford, Ohio coaching the Red Hawks (Indians?)

In related news…Ed Orgeron has file a petition to legally change his name to Edward Orangeron.
by hlh on Nov 26, 2008 11:05 AM EST reply actions
Even though Coach O would love the reference to file (a flour-like substance used in gumbo), filed makes more sense.

Kiffin at UT = the talent of Fulmer’s peak years, but without the wins

I think speak for all Trojans, and all non day-glo wearing SEC fans, when I say- please take Sarkisian instead.

MY HOLIDAY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!
COACH O BACK IN THE SEC!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE!
Orson, I’m going out tonight and getting my “Coach O to English Translation Manual” so I will be ready for your posts this time.
by shovel pass on Nov 26, 2008 5:10 PM EST reply actions
Haha! As a Trojan, I’ll have to agree with a previous poster that I’d love to see them take Sarkisian first. That said, Kiffen has a reputation of being a major a-hole. Of course, after seeing how well Nick Satan is doing in the SEC, perhaps hiring an a-hole is what UT needs.
by socalbryan on Nov 27, 2008 2:17 AM EST reply actions
Please take Sarkissian, Vols, Please!!!
But if you don’t, Kiffin will be fine, assuming you want to be the Miss. State of the conference, as in always on the rise, yet never rising.
Kiffin is the Peter Principle Personified!
and Sark is his twin brother.
Trojan fans would rather have the “O” back than either of them.
We want Chow back!
