STUDENT JOURNALISM AT ITS FINEST

Anything easy ain't worth a damn: if you can somehow quote Woody Hayes while doing a participatory journalism story about jumping into a freezing lake in late November in Ohio, you're doing student journalism right.

Points awarded for: the oddity of jumping in while clad in a full suit, the shaming of OSU offensive lineman Alex Boone, who gets shown up by the reporter here, and in the selection of atttractive interviewees. We like it when attractive people get on camera. It keeps the barbarians at the gates when they think every American is too pretty to kill.

Silly Yankees.

If you do something stupid once, it’s stupid. If you do it twice, it’s “tradition.”

I started shivering just watching that video.

I need some hot chocolate or something.

Gerry @ 1

I think you meant “Holey Raisin Sack” since your testicles probably would have torn holes in your sack and got out to avoid freezing to death in water.

What a bunch of fuck-tards.

Now burning a couch, that’s tradition…

Nice hat, Alex Boone.

I’m picking Michigan now.

by PW on Nov 21, 2008 12:27 PM EST reply actions

And this will have zero impact on the game…

But! It’s still fun, stupid and a very college-y thing to do.

Did tOSU kids do this when Cooper was coach? Because it didn’t work then.

I’m pretty sure that guy did play offensive tackle for the Buckeyes when they faced the Gators.

Good thing we gave it back to Ohio State….

(per NCAA Charter Clause 121)

…because if we had not (and the weather was a little warmer), there surely would be gators in them there waters, making that little tradition MUCH MORE entertaining…

Stupid, pointless, infantile, and what makes college football better than pro football by a wiiiiiide margin.

@7

he’s an O lineman. He can wear anything he wants. there are no fashion rules for OL.

Slightly off camera: Jarvis Moss and Derrick Harvery running circles around Boone before finding Troy Smith and dining on his innards.

Maybe if they would have had the balls to jump into that lake in January, they’d have better memories of their college years…

by italiangator on Nov 21, 2008 1:47 PM EST reply actions

Balls are only part of the problem. In January, you also need an ice auger.

by DevilGrad on Nov 21, 2008 2:07 PM EST reply actions

BTW, I can’t believe we made it this far without the obligatory Seinfeld reference.

Haha, went to high school with that kid. And mirror lake is disgusting. Even when they drain it out and scrape it clean every year.

Barwis peed in that lake. And Barwis pees acid.

@14….

It’s a damn good thing they didn’t jump into Mirror Lake in January 2007….a Gosh-Damned good thing….

That is one tough landing in January.

Ahhhhh……how I wish we had shit like this here in Idaho…….of course, this is the West US. Anything like this is verboten for fear of not being chic enough…damned Californians!

I wanna go back to Ohio!
