Why is Muschamp considered a hot commodity? He inherited a very solid defense at Auburn (remember: Gene Chizik was there before him), and has not been impressive at UT in any way.

His reputation is all hype thanks to BOOM Motherf***er.

This is a stupid decision on UT’s part.

I personally think this is a stupid idea. Its not like Texas would have a problem landing a top notch coach anytime they wanted. I am not nearly as in love with CWM as a lot of people. He has great fire and intensity and he cusses real good, but I’m still not sold on his x’s and o’s. We shall see.

Is this really that great of a call? Possibly, but UT is 90-something in pass D, pretty much exactly where they were last year. Not to mention that Auburn’s D is still quite good minus Mr. Boom. Esp. in contrast to LSU’s D minus Pelini.

I guess we will see. I think how the Big XII fares in the big bowl games will give some insight.

When Mack retires, it’s not like he’s going to go live on the golf course like Darrell Royal did. He’s going to be intimately involved in the football program for numerous years to come, regardless of whether he’s head coach or not.

The assumption seems to be that he’ll take over AD from DeLoss Dodds, but I have my doubts. From Mack’s side, I’m not sure he wants to dive into that arena – running the athletic department at Texas is an enormous, complicated endeavor. From Texas’ side, I think they are much more interested in a businessperson – someone who will keep the machine humming.

I could see Mack becoming the collegiate equivalent of “Director of Football Operations” or some such. Kind of the overall strategy guy, where Muschamp would be more specifically in charge of all things in the day-to-day ops.

I think random dude is on the right track.

Word on the street is that Mack contemplated retirement after the 2005 MNC. Ppl are looking at his contract, and he gets a fat $2M bonus in 2010. Speculation is that he collects the bonus and rides into the sunset, leaving BoomMfr to man the ship.

As a Clemson fan who wanted Muschamp badly, I’m not happy about it, but having been to Austin and seeing how good a city it is to live in, I cant blame the guy.

My question is, how long does he want to wait? Mack isnt going anywhere anytime soon, this is not the same deal with Fisher at FSU.

The stars in Texas WILL shine a little bit brighter tonight! We all knew Mac was going to step down one day and now we dont have to worry about what Will happen. Mac WILL move to AD Major (favorite son) Applewhite WILL move to OC and all WILL be right in the Longhorn nation.
