TULSA/ARKANSAS: THE MEANINGLESS REVENGE BOWL
Doc Saturday gives superb blog on the Meaningless Revenge Classic in Fayetteville between Tulsa and Arkansas. Gus Malzahn can get revenge on a team he never really got to coach against a coach he bears no unique or special animus towards: now that's a storyline!

Tulsa, your opponent for week eight is...
That said, it is the only real shot Tulsa has at doing anything close to bolstering an anemic schedule that included:
Aug 30 at UAB W 45-22 1-0 (1-0)
Sept. 6, 2008 at North Texas W 56-26 2-0
Sept. 20, 2008 New Mexico W 56-14 3-0
Sept. 27, 2008 11 Piece Dinette Set W 62-34 4-0
Oct. 4, 2008 Rice (CSTV) W 63-28 5-0 (2-0)
Oct. 11, 2008 at Gallaudet W 37-31 6-0 (3-0)
Oct. 18, 2008 Texas-El Paso W 77-35 7-0 (4-0)
Oct. 26, 2008 Herd of stray dogs (Humane Society Benefit) W 49-19 8-0 (5-0)
Nov. 1, 2008 at Arkansas 1:00 pm CT
Nov. 15, 2008 at Houston 4:00 pm CT
Nov. 22, 2008 Tulane 2:00 pm CT
Nov. 29, 2008 at Marshall
Todd Graham plans to beef up the schedule for next year by taking another coaching job and playing their schedule instead, which is a much easier way to do it rather than actually having to do all that work of calling people and juggling calendars.

I don’t remember Piece Dinette Set ever being ranked 11th?

I was at that Gallaudet game, and Gallaudet (aka SMU) should have won if not for Mr. Dropsy Stonehands.
Also, you have to give Tulsa some credit for beating North Texas. If OU and Miami circa 1984 are any indication, having half of the team ingesting illegal recreational drugs means the team must be really good.

Now is probably an appropriate time to re-visit Todd Graham’s d-baggery c/o the M.O.B.:

Raising one at Valhalla for Rice U.

I must have missed the 11-piec dinette set on first read-through, because I just launched Sun Drop across the room out of my nose when I saw Gallaudet. Although that joke might be more appropriate for Vanderbilt week because no Georgia redneck is going to get that one. Their religion says no girls in foobaw, so definitely no handicapped kids.

While I’m sure Tulsa would love to schedule the likes of Oklahoma, Ok. St., etc. It’s not like they can magically snap their fingers and raise their SOS ranking by 60 pts.

Techie – OU and Tulsa have already gone head-to-head four times this decade, with another one coming in 2009. They’ll visit Norman again in 2011 and 2013, and OU will go to T-town in 2014.

Todd Graham did sign a new contract with Tulsa before taking this other job, though, right?
Gen. Stoopnagle, raise another at Valhalla for me, too, if you would. Is Sammy’s Pub still operational?

Gallaudet was the school that gave the football world the Huddle.

If Ole Miss finishes 6-6 and faces C-USA Champion Tulsa in the Liberty Bowl, do the Arkansas boosters get an altotment of seats as well? How does that work?
Potentially this could trump both Red River and Beverage Redacted by having the world’s first TRI-colored split of fans.

Re: Rice Relata
1) I don’t care if the MOB did that — they’re still awful. No, the Katamari Damacy theme is NOT appropriate for football. Nope, not the Return to Castlevania theme either. No, you shouldn’t play that shitty “Walking on the Sun” song by that one VH1 band from the 90s when WE’RE THE ONES DRIVING DOWNFIELD. And yes, YES TO BATHING. Once a geological epoch. Please.
2) Bars. God I miss Valhalla. And in May of this year, Sammy’s Pub was dead in spirit, and all-but-dead otherwise.
3) Todd Graham is Petrino Lite, and should thus go easy on the contemporary manifestation of his future self. Maybe his gigantic ego will lead him into the same black hole that has basically destroyed Chizik, only to repeat his fate.

Tulsa bailed on a game with Tech so they could schedule Arkansas. Normally this would be meh, whatever, but Toddouche did it in June, leaving us to scramble for a 12th game. (E. Wash. was the best we could do.)
They should not bitch about 1) people ducking them (they did get OU at their place last year) or 2) their strength of schedule.
