Gold Frontz for headlights, but you only see the license plate. 17 carries, 207 yards, 12.2 yards a carry, and one TD. Against Auburn last night, Noel Devine was no gossamer escape artist of a scatback last night; instead he pinged around like a pinball through Auburn’s defense, who had no answer when they were fit and fighting in the early going, and certainly had no answer when they crumpled late in a 34-17 defeat to the Mountaineers in Morgantown. The grill, it seems, is magnetically attracted to endzones at potentially dangerous speeds.
You listen to Mee-maw, now! West Virginia doesn’t have a traffic light hung up to direct its fans like they did in your elementary school cafeteria, but they do use digital media to coordinate the tottering masses: – MIXED MESSAGES: The scoreboard at Milan Puskar Stadium exhorted West Virginia fans to “MAKE NOISE” when Auburn was on offense. But when the Mountaineers had the ball, the photo of a grandmotherly woman appeared to shush the crowd. “Quiet please, Mountaineers on offense,” the scoreboard read. Old women, the grand fearsome shushers of the world. In our mind, she does this with a squirrel-huntin’ rifle in one hand. We never picked him for a Jane Wyman fan. There’s a bit of interesting chum in the shallow waters of the Bret Bielema review here, but this does jut out just a bit: What’s on TV:SportsCenter, Friends, Falcon Crest, Leave It to Beaver, Grey’s Anatomy. Falcon Crest? It’s one thing to pick an obscure television show as a retro fave, but a bland and largely forgotten show? Bret Bielema, your subtle ironic hipsterism does not go unnoticed here. Also, Bielema is funny, because he says he actually listens to Buckcherry, which we all know no one actually does. Blow your candles out…with your last breath. It is sad to see even the very young embracing suicide. YEAHHHH VERILY GIGGITY And so the son returneth to the father, bearing with him bushels of shame and giggity. |

Isn’t that the formula? An OOC SEC win is validation of the world domination of the SEC, right? Well, what is an OOC blowout loss? Validation that the SEC is a great conference but not completely dominant over the entire rest of the country…
For some reason the UF and LSU wins have given the SEC fan base this mentality that you guys never lose out of conference and you are the greatest superpower to ever roam the earth.
Arky, Ole Miss, Miss State, and Auburn have all been blowout or lost OOC games. That is 4 of the 6 teams in the SEC west. LSU has a blow out to its name, but it came from Florida…LSU has played NO ONE OOC this year.

I have no problem giving the devil his due…Florida and LSU punked us on National Television and it sucked to be a Buckeye on those two nights…but for some reason the rest of the SEC (fans and coaches and anyone in the SEC media camp) have decided to get on the backs of Florida and LSU and ride on the waves of their victories. It fucking baffles the mind.
I am sick and tired of watching the SEC get blowout during the regular season and have it all washed away or swept under the rug because LSU and Florida were able to win the BCS NC.
How many times do we have to watch Arkansas get thrashed OOC? USC put 50 & 70 points on them – Texas put 52 on them, Mizzu throttled them last year, hell Wisconsin beat them in a bowl game.
I guess there is no hope. I honestly think it all of this is just the result of the overall dumbing down of our society…shit if people can’t wake up and see through all of Obama’s rhetoric and radical ideology, how in the world do we expect them to be able to objectively and accurately assess college football teams or conferences?

Not USC, not Oklahoma, not Texas, not Michigan, not Mizzu…who besides Ohio State did the SEC really beat? Hawaii?
FSU minus 36 suspended players
Wisconsin barely
Colorado in a close game
Clemson
Central Florida
You act as if the SEC went 7-2 against 9 conference champions or 9 undefeated teams…get over yourself.
The Big Ten on the other hand was the underdog in most of their games and played:
aTm in Texas
USC in California
Gators in Florida
LSU in Louisiana

The bowls should sort everything out? Why because the Big Ten has to play every game on the road? The bowl games are the absolutely worst measuring stick for comparing conferences, especially with the new BCS format, the 12 game schedule that practically ensures every 6-6 team gets to play in a bowl game, and the long layoff between the last game of the season and the bowl game.
In case you have been asleep at the wheel lately, the only thing that matters is one game and it is only good for the comparisons of two teams that played in that one game on that day.
It is completely absurd to assume that because team A from conference 1 beat team B from conference 2 that conference A is better than conference B.
Thus going back to my original point…you can’t say that just because LSU and Florida whipped Ohio State that the SEC is light years ahead of the Big Ten and the rest of the country.
LSU and Florida were simply better than Ohio State on that given day (granted that given day was 50+ days after the regular season, but whatever, we still sucked). That is all it means – that is all it is good for.
Quit trying to ride the coattails of those two teams and stake claim to superiority and dominance because of two singular events….it makes no sense.
The SEC is a great conference and has great teams…but so does the Big 12, the Big East, the Big 10, the Pac10, etc.

And, in any event, all the teams can do is show up and beat whichever team they’re slated to face. The SEC did that with tremendous success, and the teams from your conference–which any unbiased observer in this country will tell you is far inferior to the SEC–failed miserably. And it’s not as if last year was anomalous on that front.

Difference is, Mr. Artist, that you don’t always win the Heisman, but you do always lose the big game – especially when the SEC is involved.
Here’s some of why the SEC is better than your pansy ass conference :
We have 5 coaches with a national title, you have 2. We have another coach who went 13-0 with no title shot.
We currently have 4 teams in the Top 15, you have 2.
While you may send lots of players to the NFL, the SEC sent the last 2 Super Bowl MVP’s.
I don’t hate the BIg 10, just cooler crapping knuckleheads who talk trash after getting their asses kicked repeatedly. You guys are Ole Miss North – Arrogance without Accomplishment.

TAFKastOSUB says:
The SEC also has the highest coaching salaries and took home the Fulmer Cup last year, and in the process also now sits atop the all-time conference points standings for the fulmer cup…so yeah, you guys are great at everything.
1 NC caliber coach just retired from Michigan and Nick Saban should only count for 1/2 right? Plus Urban Meyer and Les Miles also won their NC’s against Ohio State…and since Ohio State is the biggest joke in the country how can those NC’s really count for anything?
Fulmer is on his way out, as is Tubby, and how much longer is Spurrier going to hang on at Carolina?
Also, I’m not the one saying our bowl record is impressive…I’m only saying that the SEC is not the greatest superpower on the planet like you all wish it was…you have freckles just like everyone else.
And as far as it being an annual tradition for Big Ten teams to suck it up in the bowl games…
In 98 and 99 the big 10 champ beat the pac 10 champ and the big ten runner up teams both beat conference champions…Alabama and aTm. When was the last time that an SEC Champ and the runner up both beat conference champions? It wasn’t in 2003 when LSU beat OU because OU was not the conference champion…KState was and they got rolled by you know who…big ten runner up Ohio State.

Mr. Pelican Pants says:
The Artist:
You must be an attorney. One thing that is a constant to whether you have a good team, or good conference is QB play. You of all people should know this.
The SEC,as a whole, only has a few QB’s, and by few, I mean one who can read defenses and not kill you with mistakes, and that is Tebow. Look at the rest of the conference, and like the NFL, a good QB is a must.
In close games, your QB is the deciding factor in many last minute drives….at least for a winning field goal..
Breaking in a first year qb in the SEC or any conference is gonna be full of growing pains and rookie mistakes. The Big 12 has many QB’s who know the system and has played in hostile enviroments for a full season. SEC hasnt, and Tebow and JPW are the only real returing starters. I wouldnt count Casey Dick or Smelley…
Now whether they will admit it or not, many would trade their QB’s right now for a Terrell Pryor, I know Auburn would and I know Tennessee would. A good defense can only be “good” for some many plays, and if your offense is going 3 and out every series under 4 minutes at a time, that Defense wont put up much of a fight in a track meet like last night, where your best defense is keeping your offense on the field and their offense off of it by time of possesion. WE may have 6 teams that may be bowl eligible, and maybe 3 of those will win their bowls since only 2 have a decent QB play….

Nice post…I agree…quarterback play in the SEC is down a little and way up in the Big 12. Stafford, to me, appears to be the best QB in the conference though, but his line is beat to shit.

Regarding Pryor…it is unbelievable what that kid is doing as a true freshman. Thank god he didn’t go to Michigan.

I do agree with TAFKyada on one point: it is frustrating as a Gator fan to watch other SEC fans (especially Bulldogs) say things like “whatever OSU the SEC totally dominated you, OSU sucks SEC rules, yada yada”

In one breath they (no one on this blog, but others) say “Gators suck, move back to Florida why can’t you just stay in your own state, you’re trashy, go get in your iroc, pardon me while i bark in your face” and in the next they say “you suck OSU and big ten, SEC owns you, blah blah”

Where I take exception to the arguments of tafka is that somehow any team in the Big 10 is superior to Georgia’s. Our record – as meager and erratic as it is – speaks for itself. (1-0 v tOSU. Thanks, Herbie).
That we don’t play them much isn’t our fault – it’s the quirks of the bowl system and, allegedly, the September heat in Georgia (honestly, we’re not doing a 2 for 1 with anyone unless the 2 is in Athens).

@48….actually, the people to blame for UGA playing Hawaii in N’awlins are……wait for it…….the Sugar Bowl people.
See, the BCS allows the bowls that lose their conference champions to the BCSNCG to retain the rights to the second team selected from that conference. So, unless you really believe that the Sugar Bowl released UGA so they could have that great Hawaii-Illinois matchup, you can’t blame Delany or the Big Ten.
FWIW, The Big Ten against the SEC in bowl games are 13-13 since the advent of the BCS- hardly an indication of dominance by either conference.

Gen. Stoopnagle says:
MikeLew: I appreciate your explanation, but I find it lacking. First, the pecking order of the BCS, after the automatics, last year was Fiesta, Rose, Orange, Sugar. The Rose jumped to the front of the line when it lost tOSU to the BCS game, followed by the Sugar who lost LSU, then the Fiesta and Orange, then back through the line again.
The Rose asked the Orange if it could consider Va Tech, but did not ask the Sugar if it could consider Georgia (the next SEC team in line and, by rule, the Sugar’s team, no doubt). But the Rose DID NOT ASK to even be able to consider UGA. Why would they not at least attempt to stage the best game possible? Sugar’s fault? Hardly.
And what other bowl committee would have picked Illinois? At the very least, the Rose should have taken the most deserving team which was Missouri. If there is one team which got jobbed worse than UGA by the Rose Bowl it was Mizzou.
And even in your world where Illinois was a deserving team, the Rose chose to subject all of us to TWO crappy games (USC v Illinois AND UGA v Hawaii), instead of one (in your world: Hawaii v Illinois) but with the bonus of a great game in USC v Georgia.
Water under the bridge now. As far as I am concerned (and I hope as far as Damon Evans, Mike Slive and Mark Richt are concerned) the Rose Bowl can shove it.
