in South Carolina’s defense, their educational system isnt exactly as up to par as some of the other states, especially when you think that the acc has more private schools than a lot of conferences. At the time, 2, but UVA, UNC, and GT aren’t your avg land grant university.

The story about the autistic child should be a lesson to all those who label young men that they have never met as thugs. “Thug” to the football fan means a young man, usually black, that plays for a rival team. He is more “thuggish” if he happens to be good.

They did not leave the ACC because they were getting their talis handed to them, which for the most part they were.

They left because we, the ACC, would not lower our academic standards in terms of lowering the minimum standardized test scores and GPAs. Back then the ACC had academic standards higher than the Big 8, SWC, SEC, and Big 10.

Paul Dietzel does a great interview on the ACC 50th Anniversary DVD where he talks about how the best players in SC were going to play in the Big 10 or Big 8 due to lower academic standards, and South Carolina thought that the Big 4 were discriminating against them.

Basically, USC admitted that we have more academically deficient athletes in SC than NC, Va, Md, etc, and that they could not be competitive unless standards were lowered.

Proud day to be a Gamecock, for certain. Of course, there have been so many proud days in their past, so they probably all just run together.

Never posted here before, but figured now is good as any. I love how USC fans are always quick to show how they are superior (sp? long day an it’s only noon). They are in a league, where yes the football is decent some of the time, where they get there ass handed to them all the time, where they left a conference because the same thing happened before, and they love to talk trash about a supposed rival who is up 2 to 1 overall since the early 20th century. Seriously, where do they breed these people?

As a mom of a child with autism who attends Mitchell’s Place–mentioned in the article– (I can’t say enough amazing and wonderful things about that place), that story had me in tears–the kind that come when you take joy in small triumphs. This article let me know that positive growth happens every day–not only for a 4 year old with autism, but for a young man who seems to be trying to get back on the right track and recognized the impact of being someone’s hero.

If I had crappy plastic paneling like that in my house, I would consider an outdoor location for filming my homage to Harry Belafonte. But perhaps SC fan was overwhelmed by not having to face a coach his team was 2-7 against, and the muse simply moved in him.
