TIDE FANS, PLEASE SPARE THE NOBLE ELEPHANT.
Please, Alabama fan: don’t shoot. Please, people of Alabama: have mercy upon the endangered elephant. As we speak, you or one of your brethren is crouched in the bed of a safari truck, aiming a high-caliber weapon at the oblong skull of a bull elephant somewhere in the wilds of Africa.
Though you may be tempted to shoot it, sell its hide, and then immediately place its knee ligaments in a transplant cooler bound via air freight for Tuscaloosa, do not: Terrence Cody’s timing belt-sized MCL, sprained though it may be, requires no replacing, per ESPN reports:
Alabama coach Nick Saban is supposed to update Cody’s situation later today. He’s expected to miss the next week or two, but should be back in time for the LSU game on Nov. 8.
This is good news for the elephant, since you will not be taking the ligaments from its knee to put in Terrence Cody’s knee, a joint of similar size and load-bearing strength. This is also good news for Alabama, who have taken advantage of Cody’s mutant size to play a 4.5-3 defense and take the Tide to the fourth spot in rushing defense nationally. The Cody Effect was just as prominent in his absence Saturday: Hinton points out that Ole Miss scored on the drive Cody left the game and took five of the next six drives into Bama territory.
If you have already pulled the trigger and shot the elephant, however: give your guides ten percent, sell the meat as “jumbo buffalo” in the markets of Dar Es Salaam, and see our close personal friend Amir Massoud at the docks in Zanzibar for assistance with the rest of your “luggage.” He’s good people.

Let’s wait and hear the results of the MRI before we go sparing elephants.
However, and correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t we stop Ole Miss on 4th and a foot AFTER Cody left the game?
I may be wrong, and there’s no denying that Cody’s absence will be a major loss, but our defense didn’t seem to implode with the loss of Cody as badly as our Offense does with the start of the third quarter.

Well, Crabapple, Bama fans are trying against their will to support tOSU this weekend to win the game vs Penn State….although for selfish reasons….
If tOSU wins…and Bama can run the table and beat Florida(hopefully with Cody, without him, dont see it happening) we can get in….if Bama loses to Florida, or hell , if they beat Florida, the SEC winner will be out in the cold since human voters will either put a undefeated Penn State with an ailing coach in the BCS vs either a undefeated Texas squad or a phantom one loss USC squad, since we all know that blowout(they got whipped worse on both sides of the line than what the score showed) losses away from home to a bunch of midgets dont count in the PAC 10, and since the PAC 10 football is so much better than the rest of the country, USC gets a mulligan, and a bailout, and the loss gets erased from the record books by the NCAA….
And I am typing this on my Speak and Spell so I know what in the hell all these letters and words and funny symbols mean….me hate the grammer, book learnin is fer sissys, i m gonna go outside the trailer and play with my cylinder blocks now and finish eatin the lead paint thats peeling off wall that taste like vanilla puddin

MPP – getting all of your rooting instructions from Tony Barnhart again in the AJC? Here is a scenario you will like – tOSU wins out, SC wins out, Florida wins out and Texas wins out. SC and Texas in the BCSNCG. Florida in the Sugar as SEC rep, Alabama and tOSU in the Rose. You get your chance to beat up poor ol’ Ohio State and we get a chance to go 1-9. Win or lose, you’ll claim another MNC. Will that make 15? That would include the recruiting NC and Fulmer Cup plus the 12 others you guys claim.

But as far as tOSU beating Bama…..beat PSU then you can think about it….maybe dream it. Difference between tOSU and Bama in big games? Bama shows up,to play and to win….. Hey, we play in a legit league, the closest thing to the speed of many midlevel NFL defenses…and not Big 12, 7 on 7 two hand touch passing defense. Had you beaten USC, who got whooped by a bunch of midgets, then we could take tOSU seriously. Right now, enjoy your status as the punchline of the BCS…..I am sure after PSU beats you by 2 or 3 TD’s, you can go back to the depths of the Most Irrelevant Program in the Most Irrelevant Conference.com Bowl…..Go Nittany Lions!

I don’t think Florida is better, but they are healthier at this point than UGA. If the Dawgs were at full strength, they would give Florida all they could handle. May still, UF has shown they can be beat already. If Cody can be back and be effective, not 50% and just wearing a uniform, Bama should be favored to win the rest. Without him, they will drop one somewhere.
After a season to shake it out, the SEC has one really good/potentially great team in Alabama. Two good teams in Georgia (for now) and Florida. Then there is the rest of the conference that is quite a few notches below. LSU really misses RP (as do we all for the comedy). The Lee and Hatch combo is too inconsistent. The rest are an assortment from meh, to what is that stench.

Dear god help us all. This is the first time in the modern era (meaning since the invention of the Internet) that Alabama has been off of probation and somewhat relevant. Glad to see the fan base is taking it in stride and acting like they have been there. I mean, really, singing Rammer Jammer to 3-4 Ole Miss after barely hanging on in the 4th quarter is the most clear and evident sign of a rational fan base, right? I mean you only spent $100 million in facility upgrades and $32 million on a coaching staff…desperate?
And for those of you around the country who have never spent more than a weekend in Alabama…fuck you…you have no idea what we are dealing with here. These people are fucking insane. I don’t know if it is the result of the cross-pollination of inbreeding and piss poor primary education or just a blind loyalty to the confederacy…whatever it is, it only exists in this state and it is fucking insane. And yes, I have been to Columbus, Ann Arbor, and several other “big” college towns/states…they all take a back seat to Alabama.
Now, getting to the actual facts of Alabama’s season…
SOS is 70ish…
Tight games against Tulane, Kentucky, and Ole Miss.
Clemson sucks and has fired their coach because they suck so bad.
And 1/2 of complete magic against Georgia where everything clicked.
Granted, Bama looks good and I really like their style of football…old school, physical running style…and I really want to root for Alabama…I would love Alabama football if not for the fan base. I like the colors, the tradition is rich, but that fan base is so fucking off the reservation that it is impossible as an outsider to join the flock…you are either born into it or you’re not and since being born into it entails being born into several other “things” I’ll pass, thanks anyways.

Well there was that time, right before Alabama went on probation 99 and 2000 when they were ranked 3rd in the country and went out to UCLA and got hammered…and then there was 2000 when they won the SEC Championship only to lose to the Big Ten runner up Michigan in Alabama’s only BCS bowl appearance.
And yes, the Internet was not around in 1992…
Stay classy Alabama…act like you’ve been there…pack up that tired-ass Rammer Jammer chant and go cheer with your own team instead of telling 3-4 Ole Miss that you just beat the hell out of them 24-20.

So, seriously, do you think you have a chance against Penn State? Really, I mean honestly….so if you beat PSU they were overrated, or is tOSU is just plain ol’ awesome, just like the past 2 years? Awesome being relevant til ya play someone decent outside the Big 2, and by Big 2 I mean tOSU and Penn State….Michigan is down, and it looks like Michigan State aint far behind…
In your mind, how would tOSU stack up against Ole Miss, LSU, Florida, Alabama, if you had to actually play them weekly in a 4 week stretch, with starters going down weekly with injuries? Do you think you could handle losing one or two starters on either side of the ball and be competitive? Name me 4 teams in the Big 10 that play physical football? I know of 2-tOSU and PSU, who are the other world beaters? How would tOSU fair vs 4 teams in the Big 12 that Texas has to play? Oklahoma, Mizzou, Ok St, Kansas–how would that shake out? I would say PAC 10, but we know how that ended up…So is tOSU better than Oregon State?
tOSU is like the SAW series…same premise, same plot, only thing that varys is how tOSU meets it demise
based on which SEC team it draws….PLAYOFF would solve this, but tOSU and USC and Notre Dame would be out early.

Oh, and one more thing tAFKATOSUB… you forget,
Bama has done things this year that tOSU hasnt done in the past 2 yrs on National tv, or overall the past 9 yrs, and that is beat a #2 ranked SEC team on National TV. Until tOSU does that, go get ya *&%$ shinebox. Alabama is not only a SEC football team, its a damn good one. I think Penn State is really good team also, and I believe they will unleash a SEC style beatdown(20+ points–why? tOSU doesnt know how to play from behind when they are down by 14+ points) on ya this weekend, because of tOSU has character players, and really cant win against a bunch of thugs who will take their lunch money, give it back to them, then take it back again, with interest….. PSU arrest in the offseason===more wins in the regular season, based on Fulmer Cup results, it is a valid theory…….

Allow me to address your points.
@ 25
1. Yes I think we have a chance against Penn State playing them at home. Ohio State is 7-0 vs. PSU at home since they joined the Big Ten.
2. If we beat Penn State it is a quality win – everyone has taken the position that Penn State is an elite team this year. I would think that beating an elite team would count for something.
3. Regarding being awesome, I guess it is all relative. Is being the 2-time defending Big Ten champion awesome compared to losing to ULM, going 6-6 and beating Colorado in the Independence bowl? I would think so. Sure losing in the NCG twice in a row sucks, but given the parity in college football just getting there is awesome. And hey, we did win a BCS NC in 2002 going 14-0 in the process beating the defending NC in the process…NOW THAT WAS AWESOME.
4. How would Ohio State stack up against Ole Miss, LSU, Florida, Alabama if you actually played them in a 4 week stretch? I think we would be competitive…hard to speculate on fictional games…but I would love to see those teams come to C-Bus…bring it.
5. In case you haven’t noticed…Beanie Wells missed 3 games this year, including the USC game on the road. Guys don’t only get hurt in the SEC. Let’s see how Bama does without Cody.
6. Name 4 teams that play physical in the big ten…Ohio State, Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, and usually Michigan. Minnesota plays physical as well…I remember them running all over Alabama in a bowl game. Michigan beat Florida last year being physical. Iowa beat a Saban LSU team and was very physical with Florida one year. Wisconsin has a nice record here lately vs. the SEC, as does PSU. Honestly, you are kidding yourself if you think the SEC is that much more physical….teams are physical all over the country. This is Division 1 Football brother.
6. Yes it is well documented that Ohio State has struggled against SEC teams. Alabama is 2-14-1 against Notre Dame, Michigan, and Texas…three of the biggest programs in the country….every program has flaws…
7. Fuck playoffs…isn’t the BCS bad enough…playoffs will make it worse. Anything that takes away from conference championships and rivalry games sucks. Let’s all go back to the traditional bowl match-ups and the voting system…if nothing else, at least all of the games will be played on New Year’s Eve.

Let me get this right…losing the NCG in fucktacular fashion is worse than losing to ULM at home and going 7-6. Let me guess, you’re going to tell me that 7-6 in the SEC is better than 11-2 any where else in country.
Amazing.
