We’re looking at another two-loss national champion, aren’t we?
by John on Oct 12, 2008 1:42 AM EDT reply actions
We don’t care. An asswhipping that regal and complete is its own reward. This may be the best single demolition we’ve watched there since Tennessee ’95. It was that satisfying.

It had everything any Gator fan needs. For all the normal Gator fans who love blowouts, there was obviously that. But there was even some nail-biting (or in my case, object-throwing) to do for those masochistic Gators.

At what point do the good one loss teams (Florida, OU, and Georgia — maybe Missouri, LSU, and USC) start to be ranked ahead of decent (PSU, Tx Tech, Okie St) and dubious (Tx Tech, BYU) no loss teams?

I don’t really know why it is, but as a USC guy, it gives me great joy to watch LSU lose. More than to watch USC win, even.

I’m not sure who provided more butt today: LSU or Wisconsin. Lordy, the night was filled with the sound of asses being nailed.
@5 – probably some residual hate from Lesticles’ nice little commentary about USC’s Pac-10 schedule two years ago (although this year, he’d be right.)

Yeah, God might be raining down fire and brimstone on the greater Madison and Gainesville areas after tonight. That was brutal. Modern Sodom and Gomorrah ain’t where they’re allowing them howmowseckshuls to marry, it’s where Tigers and Badgers alike totally forget to bring the lube.

4,
Well, Georgia and Florida and were ranked above Oklahoma State to begin with. The Cowboys might be able to leapfrog Georgia but I doubt they can do it with Florida.
If Texas Tech isn’t leapfrogged, they’ll be #4, which is an absurdity to itself.
by John on Oct 12, 2008 2:59 AM EDT reply actions
TTech won’t last long. Their real schedule awaits… As for the asswhippings…. yowza…. I watched two teams get completely dismantled and the blank look on Bielema’s face took second to the ‘Another fucking delay of game? Wait… Ohmygawd did they just score again?’ look on Miles’s face.

Penn State vs. Texas in the BCS Championship game, book it.
Everyone in the SEC and all but Texas in the Big 12 will have at least two losses, while JoePa shocks everyone.
Nice win for the Gators, who will lose to either Vandy or Georgia. They have great potential to either blow people out or come a cropper at the worst moment.
Say, where are all the Auburn people???

They’re all cleaning out their lockers. The season is over.

This one was fun to watch on TiVo, post wedding on the west coast. Other than the middle third, where I was eating the centerpiece my gf brought home from the wedding and washing it down with everclear.
At least, in the morning, I got to watch the UT/OU game with a Texas grad who was very happy to celebrate in a biblical way after the game.
Why am I so unhappy with this year’s Gator team?
by dogtown gator on Oct 12, 2008 3:39 AM EDT reply actions
the pronouns and descriptions will make no sense there. Pretend I’m Dr. Lou Holtz, with a Castillian Spanish lisp, and that might work.
by dogtown gator on Oct 12, 2008 4:01 AM EDT reply actions
That coach Tuberville is the tricksy one…. now that he has everyone sandbagged, he will proceed to beat WVa, GA and Ala… but will lose to Tenn-Martin just to complete the hoax

Rumor is Tubs brought Casey Dick to the War Eagles locker room post game to show Kodi and Todd what a QB looks like..Havent been this depressed since 81’ when they were runnin the triple option.

I dunnot about the Dr. Lou Castillian thing. The lisp is applied quite purpsefully for the s and zs amidst a very harsh, almost teutonic dialogue.

Let’s just hope Tyrell, Beanie and the boys lay a whooping on the Nittany Kitties and whoever is coaching them this year, thus sparing us the absurdity of those animals in Miami.
To be sure, a humiliation in Ann Arbor followed by a death spiral would be better but frankly I don’t think the Little Ten has it in them.

Did someone get the number of that blue & orange truck that left my tigers as roadkill on the field @ the swamp? God don’t like it when you make The Tebow mad. I hope we can return the favor in the ATL IF we can manage to coagulate our feces for the rest of the season. I’m looking forward to some fried chicken next Sat in Columbia to get the taste of crow out of my mouth.

I still don’t understand the out of bounds kickoff, but that was fun times.
Full marks to the LSU fan behind us who even at the end, at every touchdown, reminded us that “LSU doesn’t miss extra points.” No, you lose far more decisively.
Dan Mullen can stay… for now.

I can’t wait to hear Pat Dye’s comments on Finebaum next week. Aubarn made Casey Dick, yes Casey Dick, look like a real college QB yesterday.
Tejas will lose somewhere, as will Satan. The winna of the JoePa/Sweatervest game will be in the NC game against SoCal, unless if UF runs the table.

Texas is #1, but Bama’s only behind by 17 points.

John, your link did not work, yet I modified it slightly here, and it did the job.
Actually, the poll looks pretty close, by and large.

Seriously? Can Alabama even get a mention here? We’re undefeated, and against ranked teams, it’s not like we’re playing DeVry and the University of Phoenix. Why, oh why is nobody drinking the crimson kool-aid? I am well aware that the play has been getting sloppier and sloppier, but it’s been getting the job done (which is more than I can say for ahem CERTAIN teams). A little credit please?

8 & 9 —
I agree that Tx Tech at 5 looks too high, but they will have the chance to justify and improve the ranking given that 4 of the Top 10 teams are in the Big 12 South.
How is USC at 4 ?!? They have no quality wins and lost to a very average team. . . . OU and Georgia (and maybe Florida and LSU) can each claim to have resumes as good as the Trojans.
Given the fraticide in the Big 12 and SEC, it is regretably likely that it will be USC vs. the winner of PSU-tOSU (arguing Pryor and Wells makes them a different team) — especially if the Big 12 and SEC champs have 2 losses. . . . Arrrrgghhh.
by allaha on Oct 12, 2008 3:25 PM EDT reply actions
Allaha, there’s no way SC’s going to be in the Nat’l Championship game. They’ve been working on their efficiency so that they can have two shocking losses a season.

It the SEC cotton-pickers are so good, how can two of its top teams get B L O W N out recently, one UGA at home?
The LSU Tigresses went down faster than Kimbo Slice did last Saturday against pink hair man and the beating was almost just as bad.
The SEC is no big deal anymore..

Man I love hearing people bitch, complain and cry about the rankings in the middle of October. THE SEASON ISN’T OVER YET. Who gives an ounce of shit about who is ranked where until the end of November? There is sooooooo much football to be played.
:::tears:::
…Alabama this blah blah :::whine:::
…but PSU in the Big 10… ::snifff:::
…SEC speed but USC and blah blah :::sniff:::
Let it play out already… It was a great weekend so just enjoy it and worry about the polls later.

Allaha – you state
How is USC at 4 ?!? They have no quality wins and lost to a very average team. . . . OU and Georgia (and maybe Florida and LSU) can each claim to have resumes as good as the Trojans.
Here is your guideline – USC will get the “Herbstreit boost” with his annual proclaimation that they are playing the best RIGHT NOW. They did pave tOSU without Beanie Wells and Terrelle Pryor splitting PT. tOSU is better than you will ever give credit for until you play them – then suddenly they are the ’85 Bears. SC at least had the good sense to lose on the road and polished their turd by scoring late to make the score closer than it really was.
Georgia will have no claim over many teams, even tOSU, which will never get there either, by getting smoked at home. Blowouts have consequences.
Florida lost AT HOME to Ole Piss, the definition of an average team. That is inexcusable.
LSU got poleaxed. Though it was at least on the road and missing their best player.
OU has the best case by losing to Texas on a neutral field and lost their best defender before the half that went south. They did not get blown out.
Mizzou was handled at home by a team that they should be clearly better than. Again, losing at home has consequences.
So to answer your question, when do teams get ranked ahead of the unbeaten? When the PSU’s and TTU’s lose. Why punish them for the ineptitude of others.
My Buckeyes may lose, but they don’t lose to unranked opponents. Home or away, they beat the teams they are supposed to beat. Not always pretty, as Saturday proved vs. Purdue. Our losses since 2005 are to Texas #1(eventual BCS Champ), @PSU(#3), Florida BCSNC, Illinois #13 at home and LSU BSCNC in NOLA , and @USC #1. If we lost to Minnesota, the Big Ten equivalent of Ole Miss, at home, we would never hear the end of it. If Alabama and Texas can finish unbeaten there is your title game. But it is early October and there is alot of football to be played. Last year at this time South Carolina was ranked #6 and we all know how that turned out.

I’m no Gator fan but I’m certainly no fan of a football player who loves to mouth off and can’t back it up. Jean-Francois wrote a check his butt (and teammates) couldn’t cash. Just like Alex Brown before the SEC championship a couple of years ago.

There is only one answer to the “How is USC #4/#6” question.
Loss on September 25th > Loss October 4th or 11th.
And it’s not by a small margin, either. When you lose is far, far too important for the human voters.
When you see the BCS numbers, and the SOS comes into play, USC will be punished for it’s soft schedule— but no sooner.

Orson,
I’m not sure this was a more complete ass whipping than UT and FSU last year, which were also just thoroughly satisfying (oh God that second quarter against FSU). However, neither of those teams were as good as LSU, and Good God Jeff Demps.
by TJ on Oct 12, 2008 10:51 PM EDT reply actions
You are forgetting Oklahoma. OU will probably get to skip the B12 championship game and hold their ranking (see 2001 Nebraska) high the rest of the way.

I would like to dedicate a song to the LSU Tigers…
“The Pretender” by Foo Fighters “what if I say Im not like the others”…which means to me that now, they are seen for what they really are….they have no Saban players and have no discipline…#24 was jawing all night at Tebow after he would tackle him 15 yrds down the field…That “signature” win over Auburn looks really weak now that we know who Auburn really is. I liked the way Florida played, with no fear and hell, they ran UP THE MIDDLE ALL NIGHT WITH MIDGET RUNNING BACKS….The Oompa Loompa Attack is alive and well in the SEC and PAC 10… If Alabama can take care of business and avoid the injury bug(which Florida had vs Ole Miss) I see Florida vs Alabama in the SEC Championship, that winner will take on either a undefeated Texas team or an undefeated Penn State, and I still like the SEC’s chances in that game. Alabama is a physical power running game/Stop the run, man on man coverage Defense, Florida is quick hits to playmakers/Speed Kills Finesse type offense(looks like no one ever gets a hand on them) and stop the run defense/make em pass to the Linebacker, whose punting technique, while exciting, needs work….

…and the glow of victory still lingers…of course it may be the remaining burning embers of the couch my coon-ass buddy said he lit on fire and threw into the front yard amid a verbal torrent of expletives laced with the word “Tebow”.
My Gators earned me a bottle of Opus One and two Fuente Opus X’s…provided the couch fire didn’t spread to the house…

Florida just taught us how to play football. I have never seen a complete ass-kicking of that magnitude. All LSU fans will be walking funny for awhile because of this one.
A note to the rest of the SEC. If any of you had been in our shoes, you’d have been ripped apart too.
Also, for all of you who are talking trash about LSU, watch your backs. Our team is going to come home with their tails between their legs, but you bet your ass they’re angry, very very angry. If you have LSU coming up on your schedule I would be very worried.
