Coach Redacted’s team came out, kicked the ball out of bounds, picked up a facemask, and then let us walk down the field for a TD. They’re really ready to go.

Minnesota 14
Illinois 3

Minnesota just stopped Illinois 3 times at the goal line, including a 4th down run by Juice that was stuffed at the half yard line.

[Comment From BARWIS]
how bad this is: we’re letting a white receiver set all-time offensive records against us.

[Comment From TrueblueGA]
Okay, so we’re at the point in the on where I say you’ve got to be kidding. We are Michigan and have to have some talent laying around somewhere. I figured this would be a tough season, but this is just crazy. Toledo? You’ve got to be kidding. I think we break the contract with RR (we’ve got a great law school – should be able to do that pretty easy) and go hat in hand to Les Miles. I’ve been a RR supporter even through Illinois, but am now officially off the bandwagon. Very bad hire. Let’s cut our loses now.

by Chloe Denmark on Oct 11, 2008 2:49 PM EDT reply actions

@ S2N It’s a trend in college and the NFL and that’s been the case for a few years. They’re so worried about the QB that they’re just killing aggressive defense. I suspect it’s a conspiracy to protect the last position still dominated by white guys.

by Harris on Oct 11, 2008 2:50 PM EDT reply actions

by GoalieLax on Oct 11, 2008 2:54 PM EDT reply actions

Harris — +1 for the kicker of your explanation.

If you count “two-mississippi” after the QB throws and he’s hit, well that’s late. This split-second after hit being flagged has to stop (unless there’s a face masking involved, obviously.)

Oddly enough, the ref in this game looks like he works out as much as Eddie Guns Hochuli. Coincidence? I think not.

by Signal to Noise on Oct 11, 2008 2:55 PM EDT reply actions

Chloe Denmark @ 83 – even the Italians would have been too embarrassed to flop like that.

ESPNU2 – The all cheerleader channel.

by Brian on Oct 11, 2008 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

S2N — If it was just that hitting the QB after the ball is thrown is a penalty no matter what, it would be a bullshit rule, but at least it would be consistent. But I’ve seen flags for helmet-to-helmet when there was no contact or when the QB ducked into the hit. A player for Arizona got fined for “unnecessarily driving the quarterback to the turf and/or landing on him.” In other words, tackling is illegal. They might as well put QBs in tutus and make defenders count steamboats and be done with it.

Damn, that was a vicious block on Shipley’s catch.

by Harris on Oct 11, 2008 3:03 PM EDT reply actions

OMG block

by Bandobras on Oct 11, 2008 3:04 PM EDT reply actions

I hate to say it but OU looks like one of Dirk Koetter’s ASU teams. Flies down the field and scores using a good passing game as the opponent uses clock while being equally effective. They get killed in TOP and thus their defense looks gassed in the fourth quarter, getting smoked on simple runs between the tackles and, apparently now, white guys going across the middle.

They can’t seem to run the ball either. Looks like USC @ ASU, circa 2005.

@ 135

Blame Army for backing out last year. Tech had to scramble to find someone to fill the hole. They tried to get Georgia Southern which would have been a good game but GSU wanted the bye week instead…and they already opened the season with UGA.

Also….GO CLAWFENSE….I hate UGA

Anyone else hearing a weird echo on ABC?

S2N, I dunno, if Stephens calls the plays in dinosaur, maybe that will spark the Clawfense….

@136 – Verne and Gary are calling LSU-Florida later.

@140 – the game so nice it needs two channels, huh?

Apparently I have been liberated from having to watch the Irish. The ESPN feed switched to Walrus Tiller’s Drunks visiting that school in the state of Ohio.

Man, imagine how dangerous Notre Dame would be if they could run the ball even a little.

Garner-Webb’s QB name: Stan Doolittle.

@ jamie – It seems to be a college. My basis for knowing? I remember getting spammed by them with marketing crap about their college. And, I looked at Doolittle’s HS. He comes from Ninety Six HS. Where’s that? Ninety Six, South Carolina. We need to petition the NCAA to allow him to wear #96.

I smell an in-depth article on Stan Doolittle vs BEES!

ABC and ESPN have really fubared these 3:30 games. It’s finally straightened out here in Detroit with OSU-Purdue on ABC and ND-UNC on ESPN. I’m still blocked out of ESPNHD for some godawful reason. Do they not have enough HD cameras for this weekend’s games?

Stan Dolittle from Ninety Six HS…a star is born….that at least makes it interesting….it’ll be a scrimmage for the BEES. Something’s up with AJ Green—he’s dropping balls and whatnot.

Badgerman,

I know that NYC refers to it’s public schools by number. (P.S. 112, etc.) South Carolina might have the same kind of system.

Essay question: Which has the worst offense and why? Auburn or Tenn? just wow.
