OPEN THREAD, PART TWO: BREATH, TAKEN AWAY
Hi. You know who I am. This thumb’s for you, Colt McCoy, because you’re a champion who takes my breath away and turns in slow motion away from onrushing defenders bent on crushing you. You took the highway to the danger zone but took the exit toward Victory Lane, and for that I’m buzzing your tower and oiling myself up for a one-on-one volleyball game. You’re invited.
No more playing with the boys, Colt: just you and me, a Colt and a Maverick out in the field doing what animals do. I’m bringing this thumb. Let’s role play: this time, you be Sam Bradford, and I’ll be Brian Orakpo and Sergio Kindle.
This is your open thread for the afternoon. We don’t judge you, whatever you’d like to do with or to Colt McCoy and the rest of the magnificent Texas Longhorns, who played the finest game of the year thus far against the Oklahoma Sooners. Boom. Motherfucker.

The damn we don’t. Spurrier’s our coach. Can’t get much more “on our side” than coaching the team.
I am, however, worried that the corndog vapors wafting over from the state fair shall inspire their brethren in the friendly confines of Willy-B.

Turd Ferguson says:
Fuck, fuck, fuckity fuck fuck. Damn you, Man Who Is Not 40 Anymore.
But what does this all mean?
–Texas should, by all means, be number 1 this week. The way they played in the 2nd half was astounding. Bama should be number 2 after playing that powerhouse side Bye’s got, Penn State 3 and then it just gets sloppy after that (not 1, but 2 Utah schools possibly in the top 5?). Mizzou, Oklahoma and LSU should all drop to the lower rungs of the top 10, joined by Okie State and the other Utah school (probably the apostates, as BYU was higher to begin with), as well as someone else.
–Congratulations, Colt McCoy. You just moved yourself into the fabled cat-bird seat for the Heisman, possibly joined by Moreno. Daniel and Bradford took hits but could get right back into it.
–As for fellow Missouri fans? It’s hard to look for a silver lining, as it just proves EVERY DAMN THING the detractors said about this team (Daniel’s a glorified pizza-boy, no pass defense on deep fades, the uncanny ability to give up the big play), but I might have found one: last year, after the Tigers lost to an Oklahoma team in a “That Game”, they came back to beat a Texas team (last year it was Tech), playing with something to prove.
–I’m deathly afraid that, if things progress like they just might, we’ll see another NCG with a very good, no doubt, SEC team just manhandling an utterly overmatched school from the Big Televen (Bama versus Penn State), simply because they both are undefeated. If that happens, several websites will implode, Mike Alden will file papers to join the Big Ten, and I will throw my hands in the air and begin writing a virus to crash the BCS computers.

Uhhhh… Penn State in the title game would be so bad? Yeah, cuz Bama was so dominant vs. Tulane and Kentucky. Let’s not forget the reason everyone started polishing Saban’s knob was that beatdown of a really, REALLY shitty Clemson team.
Face it. There is a lot of season to play, football exists outside of duh SEC, and we’ll never know until we start settling the NC on the field.
For the record, I would take PSU over Bama without hesitation after watching that asswhipping today

@230:
Yes, Alabama hasn’t played well at times, but in their biggest game so far (at Georgia…forget Clemson, they’re a Tommy Bowden-coached team and you know how that is) they thrashed a good team very convincingly. Penn State, however, has yet to play anyone of note (and don’t call a Wisconsin team that didn’t seem like they wanted to be in it against Ohio State and couldn’t catch Steven Threet in a game that again they didn’t play like they wanted to win “notable”)–while they’ve looked good so far, it’s easy to look good against crap competition.
But you are right, there still is a good amount of football to be played (which is why I think that a B12 South winner will not run the table–the top 4 in that division are just insane)

Fuck, go ahead and put Bama at number 5 for Christsakes, all number one does is put a freakin huge ass target on your back, and we like to sneak up on people….Gators looked like they found their running back…..With Auburn imploding, all we have to do is get by Houston Nutt ,use the Gator blueprint to beat LSUand we will see either Gators or the Dawgs again….my money is on the Gators, although I dont think Percy Harvin’s glass heel will hold up, and lets face it, he is a large part of the Gators offense, at least his presence keeps defenses honests …Bama fears no one, and would love to play any Big 12 team or PAC 10 team or Big 10 team…Penn State hasnt played ANYBODY, and if you notice, when these overrated teams who have been in the preseason top 10 and stayed there until they played SOMEONE,they lose..(Georgia,Mizzou,LSU,OU) , I think the system will correct itself….Penn State should beat tOSU, then we will see…. Give Texas the number one ranking please….and move Bama down to #5…..hell put Florida at #2…..lets see what Texas and Penn State will do when you take away the run, then we will talk…I love Lou Holtz and his “weakest damn schedule” comment about Colt McCoy

We shall have to wait and see…. I think that USC has a great shot to creep back in there and I also believe that the 12 will pick each other off as the SEC does every year giving them just that window.
Georgia still isn’t blowing up my skirt… Bama looks good but they haven’t faced another big, bad O/D line, yet. They worked Georgia’s lines and I would like to see them do that against LSU (oh, and GA was wearing black… that hadta mean something
)
No competition will ever be enough in the Big 10 to make anyone happy after tOSU’s ever-present shitting of non-conference made beds and USC gets a free pass in the Pac 10. Even though Wiscy played like they didn’t want to be there PSU treated them as such and that says something (see Michigan and tOSU’s wonderful showings today). I would love to see PSU redeem some honor this year and screw the rest of the Big 10 in the process
Damn I want a playoff….
