It’s an ugly weekend here. My magazine goes to press — for the very first time — Monday morning, so it’s been page proofs and more page proofs, with occasional glances at the tube.

Friday night was simply deplorable, and as I type this line, Michigan finally puts some points on the board — in the forty-third minute of the damn game.

As soon as this game’s over, I have to blitz downtown, because I ran out of color ink. (This is after a couple of days ago, when my computer would no longer recognize the “a” key. Why do the technology Gods torture me?) When I get back, the background noise becomes the Penn State game. Since we don’t play the Nittany Kitties this year, I want them to do a LOT of damage to our mutual opponents, especially [TEAM REDACTED].

There’s a late game at Hawaii? Excellent.

(But now that Millen’s fired, who do I blame for the Lions? Oh yeah, old man Ford. Thank god for college football. We may have to deal with pointy-headed academics and that asshole Brand, but at least we don’t have to suffer from rich-guy ownership.)

And for the record, I’m fully aware that the B10 blows this year. And most years, lately. Honestly, if close to 60% of the nation thinks that Penn State is the best team in the conference, it’s a bad, bad sign for the Big Televen.

In fact, I’m fairly convinced that the entire nation sucks this season. Almost enough to make me think that we’ll somehow have a pair of three-loss teams in the BCS Championship. A man can dream.

Don’t ruin this for me, I’m having too much fun with transitive football:

Penn State 45, Oregon State 14
Oregon State 27, USC 21
USC 35, Ohio State 3

So I’m expecting a 69 point win against our premier program, Ohio State. The numbers don’t lie*.

Holy fuck, the Big Ten just ran a conference promo on ABC lumping Michael Fucking Wilbon (NW grad) in with Gerald Ford, Tennessee Williams, and former ambassador Charlene Barshefsky. My head is officially exploding.

* – Also, PSU has never scored more than 10 points in Columbus since joining the conference in 1993. So, uh, yeah. CORNFED FOOTBALL ROOLZ. And if you look at the games, Ohio State is the only Big Ten school to consistently shit the bed against the SEC, presumably because Tressel’s checks bounce after the holidays. He’s bad at the math.
