blog goliard @ #44...when used in evaluating a football victory over un-played opponents it is absolutely fallible. However, if you have the verbal gambit well laid out in advance and you pummel the opponent with a veritable pile of bullshit and your delivery is fast and continuous, you may easily bludgeon them into submission. Victory may be yours...but that doesn't mean its accurate. And it may well be impressive to those witnessing your mastery of the technical aspect of your speculation. Just so you know its a veritable pile of bullshit. The worst thing that can happen to a bullshitter is to believe his own bullshit.

Random Thoughts:

Orson having Penn State in the Top 5 doesn't seem so silly now. Hell, you could make a case for #1.

My nightmare scenario of a USC-Ohio State Rose Bowl is going to happen. Neither will lose a game the rest of the year won't be able to make it into the championship game. USC will crush Ohio State in the Rose Bowl and you'll get people saying "USC should have been in the title game."

USC will still be in the AP and Coaches Top 10.

Just because the transitive property is not infallible, does not mean it's not useful.

You just have to be wise/lucky enough to be able to tell when it is giving you good information, and when it is giving you garbage.

Oregon State > USC > Ohio State gives us lots of useful information, I think. (Though less about the Beavers than about the other two, since they are the team in this equation who played the most atypically...gloriously, deliciously so.)

Sorry, I forgot to mention that part of the scenario, which is royally pissing off the Tampa fans, most of whom already irrationally hate the city of Orlando for no reason other than it has more famous theme parks.

TAFK @ #26... you're right. Surprise! The number of objective variables are astronomical in comparative results analysis...while the subjective variables are basically incalculable.

Regardless, I'm still trying to figure a way to have comparatively beaten Auburn last year. And UT's waxing of UGA would have had some positive spin on that Florida loss to the Dawgs. It just doesn't work. Shit.

Pssst...#18...there's already an NFL team in central Florida with a pirate theme. Ever noticed the big-ass ship in the endzone, and the team's logo on all the flags?

@30

Using similar logic

tOSU > Michigan > Florida

Or

tOSU > insert any big ten team > any SEC team not playing tOSU as evidenced by the big ten's winning record against the sec in bowl games in the BCS era.

See how silly that sounds.
