Then you haven’t paid close attention.

And you are right, it wasn’t just QBs. They all got harassed. But that is part of playing in a program like UT and I’m sure it happens in others, as well. Players know it comes with the territory.

VY just escaped that scrutiny while he was here.

@9 – I missed the first half due to a wedding rehearsal. Baylor had no running game in the 2nd half, save for the QB.

blon- I spent most of the 90’s in Austin and don’t recall having much negative to say (or hearing much negative) about any of our QB’s, with the possible exception of that one who quit to become a male model. Gardere was a hero, as was James Brown. And anyone who didn’t love Major was a communist. It wasn’t until Simms and his overblown sense of entitlement showed up that any Longhorns I knew started ragging on the QB.

Of course, that should all be caveat’d by noting that a Longhorn fan will complain about every single aspect of the team that is not perfect every single Saturday (especially the fact that we’ve never, ever been able to stop the option). I just never noticed any extraordinary hardship on the QB’s in comparison to the rest of the team.

I’m not defending Simms, per se. My point was that we just know how to make a QB’s life miserable.

During the game (yes we are that addicted to cfb) they said that he enrolled early. He then proceeded to win the Big 12 Championship in the 400 Hurdles. Then dude went out and got like 16th in the Olympic Trials.

I mean jebus, I can’t even remember my first 3 months of college.

If there is anything that UT fans do well, it is complain about, harass, torture, etc. our QB. Just ask Chris Simms and numerous QBs before him. In fact, I do believe UT wrote the manual on how to effectively obliterate your QB’s self-esteem in just one season.

VY was not subjected to this harassment due to his exceptional ability.

If these rumors are true, (and that is what they are right now-rumors-until we have concrete proof, despite the dribble that Deadspin spews out) then we have failed.

We will definitely need to rewrite the entire manual.
