Goat Rope: something all screwed up, like a tied up goat trying to f**** through the rope. Often used in Naval settings, i.e. “That exercise was such a goat rope, can you believe their CO has a SWO pin.”

My other favorite Uncle Verne lines from the game were a) when he referred to a “four letter network” (which I assume to be the WWL) and b) when he said that Casper Brinkley isn’t playing at South Carolina this year because he “ran out of seniority”.

There was also a reference to “goat roping”, which I looked up on Urban Dictionary and found no entry for. So I’m still not sure exactly what that is all about . . .

I’m not too concerned about rankings this early in the season. Also, while it’s true that the coaches poll makes up 1/3 of the formula that decides who plays for the national championship, only their top 2 matter, not the rest of the top 25, and most people are generally in agreement about the top 2.

Of course, early season wins over “top 5″ opponents may artificially boost a team’s ranking, so teams 3 through 25 may still matter a little bit.

#9 the last time OU and USC played with a title on the line…

This time may be very, very different. I watch OU games just to see what the enemy is up to (same classless behavior, but what’s new?) and they seem to just get better and better every week. And, I can assure you, there is no joy in saying this. Only pain and suffering. USC may be the only team that can contain, if not beat, OU.

It was hard to watch the Kansas game. They do not have a running game to speak of, Mangino cannot expect Reesing to shoulder that entire offense.

If you have a chacne to ever watch a Baylor game, you should. The QB, Robert Griffin, is going to be the next great one in the Big 12. This kid can run and pass and he makes things happen. And that ain’t easy at Baylor.

I can’t believe ASU is still ranked. The best evidence yet that the most ridiculous part of college football is that the “coaches” have a poll that goes 1/3 the way toward determining the title game. These guys don’t watch the other games–they’re not supposed to.

That would be ok if they at least looked at some stats, but clearly that doesn’t happen either. ECU moving up more than USF? Really?
