Tim Tebow makes me feel like a selfish, pathetic little puke. Thinking about him handing out jerseys and playing catch with east Asian orphans brings a tear to my eye. What a great human being.
I always thought the 1985 thing was bullshit anyways. If the Gators and Canes had meet any year from 1995 and 1999, the Gators would have been favored by at least 10 in any of those years.
You mock the fuck out of Kansas football but SEC fans make me feel better about myself. Just think about how good a writer you’d be without the massive levels of bacon grease and high fructose corn syrup rattling around in your noggin.
If Tebow was the true saint they have been selling us he would have gone out there and tackled his own kicker before allowing him to run up the score. (I also think all of that asian orphan footage was staged on a movie set in Chatsworth, Ca.)
From 1988 to 1994, Miami would have been favored every year except 1993.
I’m certainly not taking away from Miami. Up until the Sugar Bowl loss, they were on the best 10-year run in college football history. It’s just the whole “Florida hasn’t beaten Miami since 1985″ thing suggests as though Miami has been better than Florida during that entire stretch, and that’s just simply not the case.
petejayhawk @ 6 – Doesn’t someone in Kansas making bacon and corn syrup comments have sort of pot-kettle-black quality? Also, do substances in a liquid state (that aren’t glass) really rattle?
Damn, ECU looks impressive…OLE Miss should have won…Guess who didnt look impressive…Bama, tOSU, WfVU, 1st half of Florida,Michigan….It was like I was watching NFL Preseason half ass football…..Yeh we won our game, but you take away the punt returns and block kick and we won 10-6. We suck. Back to earth Bama fans, he we come 7-5….
Think of it this way. Stephen Hawking said that he does not resent his illness for he believes that he would not have been the physist he is without it. It is all a part of the package.
If you remove the bacon and corn syrup, you no longer have the monolith that helped SEC ape take the next step in evolution to become SEC man, and we are all for the better.
Did anyone catch the “go F yourself, Urban” hand shake at the end of the game between Shannon and Meyer? After that ending, I definitely think they should play next year.
I hate Thug U. You want a piece of our Heisman winner #98? TAKE 15 YARDS!
It took our boys a while to get rolling, but once they finally did it was pretty nice. I’m still up celebrating!
You could see the offense and defense feeding off of each other and especially off special teams after that blocked punt. Urb loves those blocked kicks! As he is fond of saying, the team that blocks a kick in a game will win that game 80% of the time (or something rediculous like that, I forget the stat exactly).
I’m a little worried about the O line though, I thought that was supposed to be one of our stronger units. I dunno, bad offensive play calling maybe (as has been mentioned)? I agree that the D looks a lot better but still too soon to tell after only watching vs. Hawaii and a frosh QB.
@2, 11 – It is BS. I read somewhere that the ‘Canes never played a Spurrier team in the regular season. No doubt that Miami was one of the most dominant programs of the modern era, but there were a lot of down years for them as well in the last twenty years when we never played them.
@3 – I was enjoying every minute of it right up until the last. I was just disappointed that 52 yd bomb was called back due to some stupid movement on the line. I wish they would have hung half a hundred on ‘em.
@ 22, 27 – Re: playing every year, Henry over at Saurian Sagacity has a pretty good article debunking the “Florida has been dodging Miami” myth and explaining why we no longer play them anually here. Good article if you haven’t read it.
Seriously, how do you guys respect your d-bag of a coach? A FG to cover the spread with :20 left? Unbelievable.
For the rest of my life I will hate that Arkansas punt returner that stupidly tried to field a punt over his head in the 2006 SECCG and fumbled the momentum right back to Florida. The Gators were on the ropes and Urb had a look like a confused squirrel.
Because of an incredible D that year ‘ol Urb is suddenly a genius. And Charlie Strong still can’t get a HC job anywhere.
Can anyone explain to me the call that on the long pass from Tebow to the WR that got hurt on the play? the play that set up the TD that made UF go up 16-3. He clearly lost the ball when he hit the ground. Some very sketchy calls made this weekend that may have changed the outcomes of games; UW celebration, PI agains Ole MIss, and that call in the UF game.
I saw the excessive celebration penalty after the fact. While it was a pretty awful call, that’s really no excuse to have a 30 yard field goal blocked.
Salvucci @ 32 — Only need to have some part of you body land in bounds (in this case, the elbow). The replay official determined that the receiver had possession as he was coming down, and the ground can’t cause a fumble.
I would bet next month’s mortgage payment that Urban cared more about getting his kicker a field goal attempt in a game situation than covering the spread. Meyer is pays an enormous amount of attention to special teams. We don’t need to be going into the UT game with no FGA’s by our kicker. Lest we all forget, it’s the 10th anniversary of 17-20 in Knoxville on a missed field goal.
So the Canes have turned into a bunch of sniveling little whiny bitches, eh? OOO, their coach went for a touchdown with a couple of minutes to go-WAAAAAAA
OOO, their coach kicked a field goal at the end of the game-WAAAAAAA
OOO, our coach showed HIM, by acting like a nutless chickenshit by slapping hands and then running away like a little bitch. WAAAAAAAA
For all of the knucklehead Canes out there, that was just a little payback for your lying sack of shit of a “coach” who seems to be truth-challenged on the recruiting trail.
But don’t worry-why, you’re BACK! 5-7 last year BWAAHAHAHAHA. I think you’re gonna improve to 6-6. At least you might not have a LOSING RECORD this year!
So go ahead and whine and moan and bitch and complain, after all, you’re Canes!
Murphy was right-the University of FLORIDA is THE “U” in the state of Florida once again.
ClwFLGator,
Florida is running away from Miami. Urban was asked if he would like to ramp up the rivalry and play more frequently and the answer he gave was “no.” No elaboration, just “no.”
DarkKnight,
don’t give Urban more class than he deserves. Before he kicked a FG with 20 seconds left, he went for a touchdown with 1minute left and a 20 point lead. The man has no class. He is a sore loser and a classless winner.
“Kicking that field goal at the end, that was a bad deal right there. It was just a bad deal and Urban Meyer won’t forget that. It was a bad deal.”
At least RS took a higher road than Chan the Man in ‘02. He didn’t get into Urban’s ear and tell him. . . something. (No one knows what Chan said to Richt because neither of them will tell. Richt said it was something about “good luck in the bowl game.” My guess: “Wait until next year.” If I am right, EPIC FUNNY.)
I thought it was very interesting that TT would have been playing there at the end and not just for the sportsmanship reasons. While being concerned with how many FGA the new kicker has before SEC play starts, UM is amazingly unconcerned about the health of The Greatest Player of Our Era (TM) and the experience of TGPOOE’s back-up. Does he have a back-up? I don’t think I’ve ever seen him play? Just wondering. I’ll hang-up and listen.
Pete, what the hell, man? As a regular poster on this blog, I thought you liked Orson’s writing. Also, I can’t ever remember him unfairly bashing Kansas.
And Digital Headbutt, Bosher is roughly 6′0″, 200 lbs and he was tackling a guy who is about 5′6″, 175 lbs. And his tackles looked more like him getting run over and hanging on than “decleating”…especially the last one.
Kicking the FG is a sweet payback for Howard Schnellenberger’s 1979 time out to kick a FG. The 67 fans of the “U” will remember.
A shame this series can’t be played more often. The udnerdogs in this series play well above their heads (like the fighting Zooks in the Orange Bowl last time) and the hard hitting is just the kind of violence you don’t see much anymore.
But when half the fans at the Miami game are UF fans and the Canes won’t give up the cut (as was the case in the 1980’s when the regular series was scrapped), it is hard to blame the Gators. And who wants to play on the infield skin of Dolphin stadium. The U has players, and not much else of a program these days.
32, I don’t know why you need that call explained to you. Carl Moore went up for the ball, bobbled it in the air, then tucked it away with his right hand as he went down. He landed on his left elbow, in bounds. In college once you are down, you are down. The ball came out after the rest of his body hit the ground. First down.
The game in Tampa was a “home” game for Miami. It was a messy time in the series (defending national champions forced to play archrival away from home), aggravated by Miami’s crummy home attendance.
Forgotten is that Spurrier put them back on the schedule (along with putting grass back in the stadium and switching back to blue jersesys, those were SOS’s non $ contract demands when leaving Duke), but the 8th SEC game (added with USC and Arkansas) got them knocked back off except in years when Haley’s Comet appears.
It is a joke UF doesn’t play them more though; the football is excellent, and a welcome respite from the directional schools.
Re: 29. Henry’s post seems to ignore most of the available info in order to posit that the Gators stopped playing the Hurricanes after 1987 because the Canes were going on probation in 1995.
34. Unfortunately, you have to retain possession on first contact with the ground. The ground can’t cause a fumble, but it can, and frequently does cause an incompletion.
42. Bosher may be larger, but he is also a placekicker. James may be a smaller player, but he also is, theoretically, a running back.
44. Was there any parallel in this game to a cheerleader, an assistant coach, and Schnellenberger’s son being pelted with frozen fruit? Keep on ignoring the clear reason Howard took the TO and kicked the FG.
It tickles me pink to hear all the name calling and talk of “classlessness” coming from the scUM and anti-Gator crowd. First, and I’ve said it before, if one speaks of “class” one has none. Second, Coach Shannon is a wonderful example of why a university usually hires an adult to coach its teams…high school whining bullshit isn’t attractive at a college level, and an abbreviated run-by handshake speaks more to lack of character than no handshake.
Orson Swindle and Stranko Montana are two men pushing thirty who should know better than to run a college football blog, but evidently don't. Both graduated from the University of Florida, and both agree that college football is far too important to be left to the professionals.
