BLOGTOBERFEST: BEARCAT + GRAVITY EDITION
Blogtoberfest: defending you from tigers like big strong Russian should.
The use of parachutes to put mascots and/or gameballs into stadiums has now gone too far. (Via The Sporting Blog. )
The reason it has gone too far should be obvious: a mascot will get tangled in some lines, then they'll fall, then they'll catch on fire, then they'll get attacked by the live mascot, and it will all end badly. And our first reaction will be to laugh, thus punching another hole in our ticket to hell, and it will all be your fault, skydiving mascot bastards.
We've already reserved WannstedtSouth.com. Mike Sherman promises he'll win. He just doesn't know when, or how, or against whom. But take comfort in this, Aggie fans: he promises that they will win. At least one game. Sometime in the span of his coaching career. Wait for it. Here it comes.
"I've been doing this long enough to know ... that I have complete confidence in how we do things, what we're doing, the manner in which we do them," Sherman said. "I have no doubt we will win. When that is exactly, I can't pinpoint, but I know for a fact it will happen."
Bold predictions. Bold leadership. Mike Sherman. (Mike Sherman's wardrobe brought to you by Simpson Men's Wear for the Big, Tall, and Unusually Hippy.)
Ole Miss was unusually festive this weekend, and Friends of the Program was there to document it.
Jessie Palmer's tie says nothing about his manhood. Just look at the gesture Craig James is making here for proof of that.
Wannstedt Death Watch: Commenced. By both reputable and quasi-reputable sources alike.
It is never too early to get excited about Duke football, especially if you turn him into your football Obama. Beware! He worked with Phil Fulmer for years, and is just a part of a machine like them all! He'll take multiple 51 yard field goal attempts in a game! He'll punt when he should go for it!
Wow, that story got no traction. ESPN had the story of the year late Saturday night: Hawaii's immense upset of Florida on their home field, a huge blow for mid-majors and BCS-busters everywhere. (Click for full size.)

Hey Aggie Fan — is Mike Sherman “doing an excellent job in every area?” Is his explanation of when he’ll get in the win column “probably too technical for you?”
Have fun with an NFL retread, Dollar Bill Byrne. They’re superfun! It couldn’t happen to a nicer ex-Nebraska AD — except, of course, for the fact that Steve Petersen went back to Pitt and the Wannstache.
This week was the best schadenfreude week Nebraska fan could have hoped for.

Must be nice to be a Ole Miss fan. All the SEC hotties and tailgating and enthusiasm, but without those pesky expectations it doesn’t ruin your weekend when you lose.
Also, Orson, for some reason the site won’t let me post at all sometimes. Am I on double secret probation or something? Any suggestions?

No. It’s likely just a commenting vurp of the system. Try it again—you’re approved.

I think I read somewhere that a few of the girls from the Bachelor can confirm that Jesse Palmer’s tie is as long as an 8th grade choir boy’s. But, as the saying goes, it’s not the length of the tie it’s the width of the knot that matters.

Jesse Palmer isn’t wearing a tie… he’s giving you directions to the party

re: Mike Shermans wardrobe
Aggies aren’t the most fashion-forward group of people. Style does not run through the DNA in all families.
Give them a break. They had a rough weekend.

Jesse’s tie was startling, I just want to know where he bought it Gymboree?

Anyone know why Fox’s coverage of the Colorado vs. CSU game was so superior to ESPN’s UT vs UCLA game?

Let’s not forget the guys who parachuted into the Duke stadium instead of the NC staduim.

That screenshot looks straight off Gatorzone – not ESPN. Looks like UF’s own sports info. dept. created the upset of the weekend.

That screencap of Jessie and the gang was originally mine, but I suppose I lost the rights to claim it forever by posting it on the GatorSports.com message board. I guess some folks ran with it from there.
It is straight off of standard-def cable via a Hauppage capture card. Being able to contribute such magical moments in time is one of the advantages of building your own DVR and having full control of the video files.

I was wrong about Clempson, but nailed the Wannstache.
It’s too bad that video doesn’t capture the other end of Nippert Stadium, which is a gorgeous, old-fashioned brick stadium with perfect federalist buildings immediately behind it; all surrounding a memorial to Jimmy Nippert (scion to the P&G fortune and SAE) after whom the stadium is named.
Oh, and let’s hope the mascot into the power line bit isn’t a precursor to Saturday’s game against Oklahoma.

Looks like the “better get your licks in now” proclamation (made right after Aggy hired Franchione) just got extended by another 5 years.
When is Sherman’s baby due?

Unusually festive? That’s a regular game in Oxford… not even an SEC game.
You guys will have to make it to the Grove sometime.
