EDSBSGPS: WHERE WE AT, 8/28/08
The evening’s agenda:
SWINDLE: Atlanta, watching Jacksonville State @ Georgia Tech live and NC State @ South Carolina via ESPN360.
HOLLY: Los Angeles, watching Troy @ Middle Tennessee State via GamePlan and NC State @ South Carolina on ESPN.*

Neither, regrettably, will be in Denver wooing Ana Marie Cox…although I’m closer, Swindle. Just saying.
Were we That Sort Of Blog, this is the point at which we’d call you some sort of collective brotherhoodish nickname (”Rampant and Unapologetic SEC Bias Nation, PUTCHA HANDS IN THE AAAYYYYR!!!1!!”) and offer to race you to the comments for the commencement of geographic roll-call, drink choices du soir, and unseemly insinuations about your relationships with your mothers. We remain, however, cool and aloof as jungle cats (and just as shiny), and will merely inform you, as any well-bred hostess would, that the open thread below is available for any and all of the above needs. Go on, now.
*Also on the agenda: Frequent and vehement cursing of Time Warner SoCal for appalling nonexistence of ESPN360 availability in LA, denying me the Return of El Perrilloux. Get bent, sirs.

I think any school where you need at least a 1300 on your SATs (I’m still on the old system) to get in has a key dependency issue.

Gamecock fans chanting S-E-C, S-E-C at the end of the game…WTF?
For the life of me, I could never imagine beating USC in an OOC game and chanting Big-10, Big-10, Big-10…my brain doesn’t even work like that…Michigan, Wisconsin, and Penn State are in the Big-10 and I absolutely hate those teams…why would I chant for them?
It is just so f’king retarded…it’s beyond retarded.

Because I know you are all just hanging around to see how my cable issues worked out–in the process of trying to make GamePlan, y’know, WORK, Time Warner shut off my cable. Entirely. And they can’t make it come on again.

This is will be a huge win for Stanford. In some ways, it might be bigger than the win against USC because it could serve as a launching pad to a big year whereas the season was already lost in 2007 and they were just playing spoiler.

Meg–guilty.
Also, anyone bragging about that particular 34-0 win is in error, much less doing so on behalf of an entire conference. We in the SEC apologize for the breach of etiquette, and promise to post an impressive and definitive win against UCLA on Monday.

Roaminggator @ 104 – many of us are sick of it already. We’re loathsome enough en masse without the help, ESPN, thankyouverymuch.
Also, those of you familiar with the Ron Franklin oeuvre – what was up with him starting some thought about how Jim Harbaugh was talking about a Stanford player like he was a blonde-haired, blue-eyed daughter and sort of tapering off in a Humbert Humbert mode? That freaked me out to no end.

Regarding the “SEC chant” by #102, et al…
South Carolina has a long history with the ACC that reads like a soap opera. There’s an old grudge between South Carolina and the North Carolina ACC schools, particularly regarding USC’s 1971 withdrawal from the ACC, and repeated failed discussions about readmission. NC newspapers have had a few editorials this week that revisited the saga.
Furthermore, our biggest in-state rival is in the ACC, and we recruit heavily in “ACC territory”.
Suffice to say that Ohio State chanting “Big Ten” would not be a valid comparison. Besides, that’s not much to brag about these days anyway.

Why is Spurrier unable to recruit a decent quarterback? You’d think great prospects would be lining up to learn the secrets of the Visor. That QB last night was Rex Grossman-awful. No arm strenght, just lobbing it up to the tune of 4 (four) picks.

#131,
Mitchell was a Holtz recruit. Beecher was recruited immediately after Spurrier was hired, which was the best he could find on short notice. Besides the current redshirts, Smelley and Garcia are the only two highly-recruited QB’s on the roster, and Smelley played pretty well.
Beecher is a really tough QB, and I personally think Spurrier wanted to give him a fair shot, especially since he’s a year older than Smelley and had been considering a transfer. Maybe he’ll get another chance, but he probably blew it Thursday night IMO.
