We have our answer! [name redacted] is a bigger asshole than the journalist OR the landlord. Agreed with 19 re: the lawsuit. I think maybe I have residual animosity for GNV landlords as a result of the improper retention of my security deposits by a certain scum sucking southeast Gainesville apartment complex. But revenge will be mine one day. Sweet revenge indeed.

Good question about whether Ingram would want to come back for another year. How much better could his draft status be if he rehabbed and played a year versus rehabbing and going straight to the combine or NFL workouts? I can't answer that. No question it's a risk to play one single snap more than necessary.

I may be wrong but I think Ingram would qualify for a medical hardship waiver (commonly referred to as a medical redshirt) if he asked for one. He would have to petition the NCAA for the "waiver." [See Jason White of OU and Ben Mauck of Wake/Cincinnati]. They both got 6 years. It would be up to the NCAA to approve or disapprove the waiver. (In Mauck's case, the 1-yr. transfer rule was waived because it was his 5th year when he transferred from Wake Forest to UC). The NCAA "counted" the 1 yr. waiver for the transfer as the 6th year. Mauck went back and asked for a 7th year - which was denied. Yes, Ingram was redshirted once as a freshman - so he could technically get 6 years. (I think this would make an excellent law school question on NCAA eligibility. Of course, any answer you would give would be wrong since the NCAA would arbitrarily change the correct answer.

As for the rent thing - while I can appreciate the fact that the landlord is asking for attorney's fees - the whole deal is really cold - and not good PR for the leasing agency. As if they care.

Basketball has nothing to do with it. With the NCAA you are allowed one year to redshirt in case of an injury, thus the five to play four rule. Players who miss one year due to injury and receive a redshirt, then miss another season due to injury are eligible to apply for a hardship waiver of the rule. The irony and the shortsighted nature of the rule is that C.I. is not eligible to apply for the hardship waiver because he was not injured during his football redshirt as a freshman.

Also, the rule ignores the reality of how coaches often use it: they'll play a freshman during the first few games (once you play past the midway point of a season it counts as a full season) and then a sore shoulder or tender ankle is cited as the reason in requesting a redshirt (it's not like the NCAA is going to get into the issue of trying to determine severity of injury). C.I. didn't get that treatment from (name redacted) as a freshman because he was playing QB at the time and (name redacted didn't exactly have the luxury of using his fourth-string QB. But if C.I. had played and been given one of those pseudo-injured redshirt seasons in 2004 then today he would be eligible to apply for a waiver to come back next year.

That said, why would C.I. want to come back to the same risk,

Regarding Ingram's lack of a medical redshirt, I've heard it's due to his time playing (and therefore buring eligibility) with the basketball team prior to concentrating on football.

You'd think he could sign with an agent or something and get an advance? I know he Urban just pegged him to be team captain and all, but would that put the brakes from getting some coin from the always-scrupulous sports agent universe?

Or, could UF provide some kind of USC-Reggie Bush sweatheart deal on housing?

#13, PushJerk

Well, debts are debts, and I haven't a clue of Ingram's pay history with the property. Maybe this month-late payment was the last straw. Evictions can be a real bitch, from what I understand. Why not include the attorney's fees? I certainly would if I was suing Company X in small claims court.

Ingram received a lot of ink over his injury, and this eviction story is just the worst kind of abuse for keeping a name in the news. Has their ever been another college football player to make the news for getting kicked out of an apartment?

HLH,
Because the NCAA = fair, reasonable, logical, unbiased, sensable, etc. etc. etc.

Oh, wait, the NCAA actually does not equal all of those things, quite the opposite, infact.

Can't spell arbitrary and capricious without N-C-A-A. Makes no sense. You get five years to play four. Unless you sit that first year out because you're injured. And then maybe you get six years to play four. Maybe. But only if you kneel before the almighty NCAA and beg.

"Sorry, Cornelius, we just can't allow you to continue to play football next year even though you've only been active for three seasons and the rules say you're allowed to play four. You are no longer eligible to create value for the NCAA, its member institutions, our corporate partners and the broadcasters and their advertisers. Best wishes, and hope you got that degree."

Who is the bigger asshole, the "journalist" who broke the big story about the late rent, or the Gainesville landlord for seeking attorney's fees?

HLH, I haven't read up on it much lately, but some folks on the Gator boards I read believed that it's because he redshirted as a freshman. If it had been a medical redshirt then, the medical redshirt now would happen, but because it was a 'regular' redshirt season his freshman year, the medical redshirt is not available now.

That's just what I've read. Makes little sense to me.
