What this crack journalist failed to report on the Auburn "fight" was the Ziemba's involvement was to try to break it up. It was a standard shoving match that happens all the time in two-a-days. Talk about a NON issue. (the bama fans have really been pushing it, though, likely trying to divert attention from the TPD blotter.)

Ate there last night on the road, only place open other than Waffle House at 930 that is NOT fast food.

Dam good pintos & cornbread. They need to add smoked mullet, though.

I agree with your assessment of the hash brown casserole. Nothing is better than the eggs-in-a-basket breakfast after my four mile run in the morning.

I do freelance food writing/reviews and I still love Cracker Barrel. I would rather eat there than all those four and five star restaurants.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with teammates fighting one another in practice, particularly in training camp. You develop intra-squad "rivalries" hitting the same guys for so long, and sometimes those spill over after the whistle. Totally natural, and dare I say, occasionally good for team chemistry, because you'll get any issues out of your system early, making the two teammates less likely to bark at each other during a pressure-filled game situation.

Two caveats to that. One, obviously, is that you don't want anyone sustaining a serious injury (I know a guy who played at a rival high school that likely cost himself a 1-AA or D-2 scholarship because he broke his hand in a practice scuffle and missed his senior season). Two, if you've got teammates fighting each other the week leading up to a big game, you've got deeper issues.

Smart coaches will not freak out over this type of stuff, however, they will set down consequences, so that players know they better never pull that crap during a game and get a dumb penalty. (Our h.s. coaches had a rule that if you fought in practice, you were immediately banished to run a mile on the nearby track, in full pads, helmets and cleats... and since you were kicked out of practice, you had to start the next day's practice by running 20 minutes of stadium stairs, also in full gear. So basically, you made sure that any fisticuffs were worth it. My lone practice fight was definitely so -- got some long-awaited revenge on the team cheap-shot artist...)

When I was in high school our team got into fights all the time in practice, in class, at parties...you name it.... and that team went on to finish 4-7 on the year... BUT it also produced 4 seniors who won their weight classes in the area Toughman contest that same school year.... you gotta look for the positives!

Blon @10: Too much fighting is clearly a bad thing and I can't imagine a good coach really encouraging it, but a little isn't a problem at all. And context is important too. It is pretty natural to have it happen in training camp or two a days when so many things are still being sorted out for the year. It would be much worse if it was going on during the meat of the schedule.

Funny just as I was reading about the carioca styings of Mark Sanchez, my wife came downstairs wearing a shirt that just said "carioca" on it (in red and white "Coca-Cola" script). Maybe I should go get a plate of shrimp.

blon @ #10 - well argued point and I agree. It essentially wastes an entire practice. Everything a young man learned or worked on prior to the fight gets thrown to hell since he gets so worked up. And you can pretty much bet that he won't remember shit after the fight takes place since he'll be so pissed off.

Am I the lone person who votes against Crackle Barrell's HashBrown casserole? It's way too "onion-y" and although I appreciate the 800 calories - I think I'll stick with my "eggs in a basket" please.

#13: I'm pretty meh on it... I just figured the Nebraska Bookstore stocked up on shirts with those janky slogans just to make a couple extra bucks over the winter months. Having someone erect a billboard across 180 from Memorial Stadium that said "Welcome Back, Bo" or something like that was almost too much, too.
